If we leave Disneyland to get dinner in DTD, would we be able to ride the Monorail back into the park after eating? If so, how does that work with security/park tickets, etc? (we are planning our first visit for this summer!)

Normally, there is a standard entry gate at the platform at DTD. You have to have tickets to enter. They would just scan you back into the park as they would if you went to the entrance. You are already within the security perimeter at the station, and would only leave it if you went to the DLH.

That said, there is a lot of construction down that way right now as it drops at the far end of DTD, close to the Dinseyland Hotel. It may be faster to walk if you are eating closer to the Esplanade.

If you have a park ticket and reservation that would let you into Disneyland Park, you can ride the monorail into the park. (So, for example, if you have a 1-day non-hopper and a reservation for DCA, you couldn’t get into Disneyland Park and they wouldn’t let you ride the monorail in. But if you have a hopper and it’s after hopping time, the park reservation for DCA wouldn’t prevent you from riding the monorail.)

DTD is all within the security perimeter so if you stay within DTD you won’t need to clear security again. You will need to scan your park ticket at the monorail entrance, same as entering at the front gate.

Depends on where you eat. If you eat at Naples, its not worth the walk. If you eat at Ralph Brennan's, the monorail makes sense.

The monorail is so cool, and even if you don't take it to DTD for dinner you can take a round trip ride just to experience it.

You don't need your ticket to get on at Tomorrowland station, but you'll need it when you leave DTD to head back. They have an entry gate right there. You won't need to go through security again unless you leave DTD.

If you do take it to eat, just check the DTD map to see where your restaurant is, because it might make more sense to walk through the Disneyland main entrance.

Where are you staying? If you are at any of the Disney hotels, the line to get onto the monorail is often shorter than it is to get into the park. That said, the monorail drops you off in Tomorrowland so you lose the wow factor of the park entrance and walking down Main Street.

To answer your question.

Yes you can ride the monorail both directions before and after you eat in DTD. The DTD area is inside of the Disney security perimeter, so no clearing security again. (Harbor Blvd on the east side, all the way to beside the Disneyland Hotel on the West side)

You scan your ticket as you go up the stairs on the Monorail to head back to the DL park. Your valid park ticket is good for the full day for the park you reserve (or either park if you have a Park Hopper ticket),
