hi i am sorry if this is a daft question but i have never been out the UK and we are taking our first family trip my hubby (30) me (23 will be almost 24 on our holiday) and our daughter who will be almost 4, for xmas! we go the 12th dec to the 26th dec. we are stayin off site on idrive but my question is how much money would be more than enough?? i like to over estimate and so far have saved £3000 is this enough or should i save more? i do not have a clue about prices out there. sorry if i sound daft.

Are you staying on-site or off-site? If staying at WDW, will you have the dining plan? If staying in a villa, will you be cooking any meals there or eating out most of the time?

Without knowing what your plans are, it is very difficult to tell you how much money woudl be a reasonable amount.

As a guide, though, we eat out for every meal (usually skip breakfast), we don't do the dining plan but eat most meals off-site (i.e. not at Disney or in themem parks). For three of us (2 adults, 1 9 year old with a big appetite) we usually budget around $150 per day. That includes all meals, snacks, drinks and any extras.

We are 3 adults, £3,000 would last us 4 weeks no problem. We average $100/day when staying offsite. Thats for all our meals (don't eat breakfast) snacks and bits from supermarket.
Main thing to do is collect vouchers, register with restaurant wesbsites, enter your Birthdate for a day or 2 before you leave and they will send you vouchers for free meals/desserts/discounts.
Lunch in parks always cost us around $30, evening meal anything from $25 at Sweet Tomatoes upto $60-70 at Cheesecake factory.
Restaurant.com vouchers can save money, buy when on sale, I paid about $4 for a $50 voucher for House of Blues.
If you have a good credit rating I would apply for a fee free credit card, I use Post Office, you can spend abroad with no fees, if you really want to take travellers cheques and cash then take about £1500-2000, leave the rest in you bank account and use the credit card, otherwise you are paying to convert to $'s then back to £'s. Personally I only use my card, today if I were spending in Florida I would get $1.55/£1 but swapping in $'s I would only get about $1.50.

Most people I know take too much on their first trip but we all do things differently, some spend a fortune shopping, we hardly spend anything, some eat in expensive restaurants, we don't, some drink alcohol with every meal, we don't, we are all different.

currentely the deal is $5 for $25 or $2 for $10 with the code TRAVEL (but it's a weak deal compared to some we had earlier this year)

Ooh, thanks for that. We have an ADR at HOB on 24th August so I will look into buying the vouchers - I take it there are no problem with using them? I have never used the restaurant.com vouchers before so not really sure how it all works (sorry OP for hijacking the thread).

We just came back from 2 weeks (2A and a 4 year old) staying onsite and paying for all meals eating a mix of onsite (Both TS & CS) and offsite and I had budgeted $200 a day (around £2000) however we didn't spend it all. We also paid for water park ticket for DD out of it.

Your £3000 at $1.50 will give around $300 a day which will be plenty.

Can't see HOB listed, they usually list about 12-15 pages of choice for ZIP 32830 but only 8 pages showing, not good just now.

You can never take too much! If you have some left over great, splash out or book another holiday lol Nothing worse than not taking enough.

If you already have £3k that should be plenty, but you can't take too much :D If you can top up a travel card online even better, keep it in your regular UK bank and top up while you're there as and when you need it :D

We have over $3k to spend, I want to end up with $4k at least and hope to bring enough back to book another holiday when we get back :D

We try and do food when staying offsite for $100 a day for 2 adults and a child.

If you are driving you will need to pay parking $14 a day or transport costs if you are not.

Anything eklse is just how much shopping you want to do.

Links in my signature to my dining on a budget reports - lots of info on prices.

some spend a fortune shopping

:thumbsup2
oh yes:rotfl:

If you aren't going to do this you will be fine. Also remember the meals are HUGE compared to the UK, sometimes a starter is as big as a main here. You might also just share a meal given the size. We never do though, we eat like right piggies:laughing: but if you don't have a huge appetite you might find that you just want to share.:)
