Wow, has anyone else heard both of these guys discuss the D23 on their respective podcasts?

They couldn't be further apart in their views, it makes for really interesting listening if you get the time. To be honest, I found be views quite convincing. I (like Lou genuinely) want D23 to work, but I can't share his enthusiasm for it at this stage. Pete can be very persuasive with his view on it, but I don't think it's quite as bad as he's making out.

I don't know, I'm confused now! If I was the boss I'd make Werner CEO and I'd make Mongello CMO! :)

They are both right, as it is both opinion!

Don't feel the need to pick a side, just listen to both for now and reserve your judgement until more is said, that what I'm doing!

If they do as they say they are going to do, and put up loads of free content on the site, I will deem it as a success! However currently I am undecided.

I don't think they mean to take opposing views, it just happens sometime, as long as its not about the lakes and ameobia then its all ok! :lmao: :thumbsup2

In it's current state, I would have to 110% agree with Pete. In my view, they are expecting someone to spend $75.00 for 4 magazines and the "right" to buy WAY overpriced merchandise? Please. This is perphaps the biggest slap in the face Disney has ever done to their loyal fan base.

Granted, if things change in the future, and you actually get something even semi worthwhile for you dues, other than getting to prove to the world you really are a Disney robot, I might just consider it.

I think Pete's reaction was colored by what he wanted - a loyalty program for frequent visitors to the parks. I hope he still gets it in some form.

Lou is seldom (never?) negative about Disney.

Lou and Mouse Guest both had Disney reps as guests to talk about D23. They emphasized sharing company history, not marketing.

I think the D23 campaign was the problem. It encouraged people to speculate on what it might be, getting their hopes up for what they wanted it to.

As for me, I am not a frequent park visitor. I do have an interest on Disney history. Not ready to part with $75.

They both said exactly what I expected them to. They are VERY different people with VERY different perspectives. I love both shows (of course DIS unplugged a more) and listen regularly because of those differences. Pete is my Dr. House (he gives it to us straight whether we like it or not, and makes me think) and Lou is Dr. Feelgood (He looks on the bright side of things and makes me happy).

As lou stated, do you think Disney has really revealed their entire hand with this new program?? yes its a bit pricey. But lets be honest, what at Disney ISN'T pricey? we pay prices at Disney that are half the price elsewhere. The "magazines" are HIGH quality from what i have seen, and there are some great photos. I highly doubt its just a club to give you access to purchases more stuff, there will be lots more unveiled in the future i beleive. We routinely go out to dinner and spend close to that in one night. if you dine at V&A's you have most likely spent FAR more than this program costs, and you got ONE NIGHT of product. Give it a chance to grow, im sure there are some great things planned in the future. I cant wait until one day they do some GREAT reveal that only D23 members get to see, and then everyone on here is gonna be whining that its not fair that only members get to see it.... they can NEVER win, they could produce the Greatest attraction the world has ever seen and half the people on this board are going to find things to criticize. Im far from rich, FAR from it, but its $75 dollars, i can blow that in 5 minutes in Vegas or at a nice store. I sometimes think half the people on here just jump on the bandwagon because they want to be just like the podcast crew and score cool points or something......

I have never listened to any other Disney podcast but the Dis Unplugged. I'm curious as to what Lou M. has to say. What is his show called so I can search for it on iTunes?

Personally, I think that Disney is not done with this program and there is more coming. I visit the parks frequently, I own DVC and have an AP, and I am interested in Disney history. Do I wish DVC and AP holders had more perks? Sure, who wouldn't? Would a loyalty program be a good idea? Definitely, but that is not what D23 was created to be. I am hoping this is something that will come in the future. If it doesn't though, I am not going to stop going to Disney. So many people talk about how great Universal is on the boards. Do they have a loyalty program?

The cost of the club is very similar to the prices of other fan clubs for musicians, artists, etc. Because I planned on buying the magazines anyway, I joined the club the other night. At first, I was scared to mention this here on the boards because I'd be tainted in some way; I've seen name calling and other criticism of those who joined and did not want that. However, I really have no problem saying now that I joined. I'm happy to be a club member and am looking forward to what I receive as a result. If that is more than what is revealed at this point, that will be great. If not, I will still be happy with my decision.

With all of this said, I have the utmost respect for Pete, John, Kevin, and the rest of the podcast crew. They will always be my #1 source for current Disney information and I value their opinions. I am glad that we are lucky enough to have this forum to use for discussions like this. We are a great group.

I listened to both takes on the D23 revealing. Frankly, I enjoyed listening to Pete discuss his opinion. He has some seriously valid points! On the other hand....frankly I enjoyed Lou discuss his opinion. He has some seriously valid points!

Dependent on what one is looking for, D23 is either for you or not for you. As another poster mentioned where the problem has come in for people is in the campaign. Disney built up a huge amount of anticipation with the RU23? campaign. "We all" had hopes of what it would be. There was a great deal of expectation as to what D23 possibly could be. I think perhaps there was too much speculation and anticipation put into this. If D23 was not so mysteriously marketed months before its revealing there wouldn't be nearly as much fervent outcry or support. The way the campaign was lead allowed Disney fans of all types to guess and hope for what D23 would bring and I think once as individuals we got into out heads what we wanted anything other than that would be disappointing or underwhelming. Obviously there are some people who are really excited about what the future holds for D23 and that isn't just Lou.

Don't think that Disney isn't listening to both sides of this. AND I am sure that the mystery of the campaign , all the talk in the fan communities was observed as well. Disney makes some very poor decisions, but they also make some really wise ones. Sometimes, guest, fan, customer ect opinion goes on seemingly unheard and contrarily, these opinions have paved the way for change.

Personally, I am not shocked about what D23 is as it stands now and admittedly, I did hope that there would be an aspect that focused on loyalty to the parks and resorts. I do think that there should be some sort of program for loyal visitors. D23 may not be that program (well, obviously it isn't now but it "could" evolve to include it). Currently, I am undecided if I want "in" on D23. I think I will wait, look and listen for a bit before I jump on either band wagon.

As I said before I enjoyed both Pete and Lou's take on D23 and I believe that they both made some very, very good points. They both give fans who listen to both food for thought!

At least scoring points on a message board would be more valuable than scoring a magazine subscription for $75 per year. :)

I've got no problem parting with my cash for Disney. I'm a Disney nut plain and simple. But you have to actually give me something for it, even if it's a one night show, dinner, or whatever.

If you don't think having someone spend that kind of money, only to get an opportunity to buy an $800 pen and a magazine subscription is a slap in the face to you as a fan....more power to you.

I could never get enough points to be as cool as the podcast crew. As far as D23 the horse is dead, agree to disagree.:flower3:

I think Lou is a great guy. I just happen to agree with Pete 95% of the time. But yeah, I can see why some people like D23. I just dont understand how many of these WDW website "celebrities" can not notice the uproar caused by the faux hype. haha

The reason I mostly listen to the DIS Unplugged is because it is unbiased. Pete and the crew tells about what they thought/think about a certain part of Disney. Lou Mongello on the other hand, never talks bad about things that everyone knows are.

And just so everyone knows, Lou is following his dream and moving to Orlando!

I think it would be awesome to have Lou and Pete, sit down together on a bench in Town Square or the Hub area with a recorder, and just talk about WDW and Disney stuff for a couple hours. I bet they have more in common that many would think.

Who else would like to be a fly on that bench?:lmao:

You know, I do not think Lou is biased in that I do not think he does it out of some nefarious plot. I just think he is overly positive.

I agree that I believe Lou is just a genuinely upbeat guy and is able to put a positive spin on just about everyting. In turn, I love Pete's honesty and passion. There is definitely room for both. I also agree that I believe the problem with D23 was the campaign. Based on how it was marketed the result was somewhat underwhelming.

That all being said, I may not have the popular opinion here, but I don't think this is the place to debate one podcast vs another. I think that if any forum, this forum should be the one to solely discuss DISunplugged topics. In respect for both the team and the other podcasts out there that would only be appropriate.

My .02.

I've only started to post here, but have been listening to the podcast for almost 2 yrs. I agree that both Lou and Pete have very different takes on things. And that's why I enjoy listening to both podcasts. I get different things out of each. I haven't joined D23 yet and I may never. I think it is way over priced, but I am curious to see what happens with it. I feel everyone should be able to express their opinion without feeling bad. After all it's my money and I can spend it any way I want.

Something tells me you wouldn't have to be as close as a fly to hear some of what Pete would have to say.:lmao:
