Money $$$$$

I have budgeted:

Room Key (linked to DV) - for breakfast, lunch, dinner and souvenirs

$20 disney dollars - for snacks

$50 either cash or TC - for misc and budget busters

I'd like to use the DV to earn the reward points. Especially when we go for 2 weeks, the meals add up. Makes it nice that you only have to carry the room key and the envelope with misc money. I'd hate to have a credit card lost at Disney...

I do what Bev does and put our daily alloted $$ into an envelope for each day and store them in the safe. I feel so much more in control doing it that way, instead of getting a huge bill at the end. I make sure from our plans that we have more than enough and usually carry some over to the next day. If I used the room charge, I probably would only get 10 points on my reward card, which is not worth the heart attack at the end of vacation.

Now, since that one post about the room safe being robbed, I am thinking of using the safe at the front desk. I used it during April to keep a watch safe and it doesn't take too much time to get into it. Maybe I will keep half of the vacation in the big safe, so that if something does happen, we don't lose all the cash and T checks.

I guess I could do the room charge, then pay it off on the credit card each night? That would be dumb, probably, eh? Hmmmm... it would be nice to just carry around the room key. We did that for our Anniversary Trip in April and I did feel out of control. I like the feeling of having $30 left over at the end of the night vs. not know how much you spent that day. That's just me, though.

I guess we must be pretty moderate about spending while we are there. We usually have $1000 on the key and rarely ever need to have it "reset". We eat one or two character meals while we are there, and the rest of the time we eat at the counter places or Pincohio's and places like that. We buy a few souvenirs each day, but not an exorbatant amount or anything and usually just do one big shopping trip. I guess I am pretty good about keeping up with how much we spend with just a running tally in my head, so no "end of trip sticker shock". I love the room key charge!!

zakatak -

if you use TC's then if they were stolen the TC company would reimburse you. I don't know if their are charges for buying TCs in your own currency though - I have to buy US$ either way, so it's just a case of buying some in TC and some in cash.

At ASMo our limit was $500.00 before we had to pay it and start over. I think it is interesting that the moderates and deluxes have a higher limit. It never occured to me that they would. Does disney think guests at the values are poor and less likely to have the money to pay the charges?

I don't think they think that people that stay there are poor, but that they probably may not intend to spend as much money as people staying at the higher resorts. The food courts are much less expensive than the restaurants at the other hotels. I know we spent alot more at the W Canyon than we do at the food courts!

I like bringing a set amount of cash on vacation and spending whatever - if we bring home $, great; if not, that's fine, too. (Plus, since I handle the $ all year long, pay the bills, budget, etc., I hand it over to DH just before we leave for any vacation and don't even ask about the $ until we get back - that's my big relaxation thing for every trip! :) )

But the convenience of charging it to the room, paying off with the Disney Visa and earning more points sounds enticing. I'm wondering if it's a big hassle to keep track of how much we're actually spending so as not to go over our "vacation spending" budget.
