Hi

Normally we take a mixture of cash and travellers chqs when traveling. However when we went to France last year we found it really difficult to find anywhere that would cash travellers cheques, no banks would !! Presume this is because of the Euro.
So I was wondering if they have cashpoints in Disneyland as we found out whilst we were in France we can use our Maestro card, as not really keen to take all cash. I know we could use credit csrd but there is always the risk we won't pay it off !! We will have the car if anyone knows anywhere just outside

Thanks

Jo

There are cash machines in Disneyland Resort Paris. I'm pretty sure they cash Traveller's cheques too with it being such a massive tourist spot - there is a Bureau de Change in Disney Village - pretty sure they'd sort everything out there.

We now tend to take a small amount of cash and then use ATM and credit card for the remainder.
As Steve says DLP will cash traveller cheques; although SIL was not impressed with rate and commission charge.
When we used to take TC we made sure they were not £ as French banks don't like them but too Euro TC's.

We opened a nationwide account since they do not charge transaction fees for use abroad and transferred our holiday money into this. Then withdrew Euros from ATM (Arcade in park, Train station, Disney Village) when we needed cash.

Remember if you are staying on-site you can charge all your spends to Hotel ID and then pay one bill on departure :)

I had thought of taking some cash and charging lots to my room but when I asked my travel agent about doing this they advised against it saying it would work out expensive :sad2:

They advised to take some cash and travellers cheques, now having read this I am confused as to whether this is the best option. When we went to France before we used ATMs - that's okay so long as you don't get your card swallowed up, but my bank would charge for the privilege now anyway.

Now I am not sure what to do... I'm not sure I want to go through the aggro of opening a Nationwide account just so I have access to that for just a weekend, but I could be persuaded if it's really worthwhile

We took cash last time and it worked well for us - most of the hotels have mini- safes in the rooms

We use Euros too, so changing money isn't a problem for us, but we never take a lot of cash with us (maybe 50 euro or so, for foodcarts and very small purchases)

We just pay everything with a Credit Card.

I don't want to take large amounts of cash as it will just be my daughter and I travelling. I would be happy to use a credit card but the travel agent advised against doing that as it would work out very expensive :confused3

Shop around for an account that doesn't charge - I know when I use my Abbey debit card in DLRP I don't get charged.

Thanks everyone

We did take Euro travellers cheques last year, most banks didn't even seem yo know what we were talking about !! The only place we could find to cash them was the post office. We were in the Loire Valley, but we tried the banks in some large touristy towns and got the same response.
I will check with my bank how much they charge for ATM withdrawel abroad and also consider charging it to our room, forgot you could do this.

Hi
A few options worth considering are the American Express Travellers Cheque card where you pre-load the card with money first.
Alternatively, Nationwide do a credit card where you are not charged a commission fee and the conversion rate is the middle exchange rate-so you save doubly.
I have this card and use it abroad-I'm always pleasantly surprised when I get my credit card statement through as the exchange rate is always comparable to the tourist rate.

Another vote for Nationwide credit card. :goodvibes

We just take enough euros to pay for drinks/snacks/ice creams etc every day and put our main meals/shopping purchases etc on our Nationwide credit cards.

I just tried to apply for one of these online and discovered immediately that you need a Nationwide Account :sad2:

Hi
I've just checked and you don't !! Click on credit cards and choose which one you want.(doesn't say anything about Current Accounts) I have a Comic Relief card but no other accounts with Nationwide....blind loyalty to my present Banking employer :rotfl2:

Thanks, I'll try again and ignore the fact that it says you need the account number of any existing Nationwide account then :thumbsup2

Annette, I think they only ask that so they can tie up any existing accounts you have with your application, plus it would mean you are already "known" to them so it might speed up the process a little. :)

Thanks Elaine

I have bookmarked the site for now as DH thinks I should hold off applying for any new credit cards right now - we are hoping to move house in the near future and need a new mortgage!

Thanks again

Have applied for a Nationwide Credit card and been accepted, just hope it comes it time. We will take some cash and pay everything else we can on this and then settle up when we get back. They are currently offering 0% interest on purchases for 9 months
