Hey guys,
We go in August and are saving up our spending money just now.
My younger sister is going to Camp America and was told that the USA is doing away with the use of traveller's cheques and that she should take a prepay mastercard.

This has me slightly worried as not only do we usually take travellers cheques with us but we still have some left over from a trip to NYC.

Can anyone who's been recently confirm that they've still been able to use these?

They're AMEX ones

Thanks :)

There was something about this on the boards recently and the consensus was that they are still accepted. Have a look through the older threads as it should still be on here.

We took Amex ones last year to Florida (Feb) and Vegas (Oct) and had absolutely no probs at all with them. And yes there is another thread quite recently about this, somewhere!

erm i wonder who gave this advice,TA who would get a commission if they sold a Pre paid card?

As a travel agent who sells both Travelles cheques (Amex ones) and prepay mastercards via travelex i can confirm all types of payment are accepted across the pond.

For travelers cheques only take them in US $ and not sterling or euroes as that can cause headaches getting them changed. You may have to carry photo id around with you for cashing in t/chqs though i rarely get asked for this on Disney property.

I always used to take 50/50 t/chqs and cash and now just take exclusively cash myself , just have to be very careful with that till you get to the safe in the room :)

We used to sell travellers cheques a lot but very rarely now the cards are becoming more popular. Saying that with the potential charges invloved in these prepay cards i still find it hard to really recomend them to by clients. No getting away from the fact there is a safty margin built in with t/chqs and prepay cards but you do pay for this fact.

We are just back in may and we used fairfx card! It was great and the xchange rate was higher than the shops were offering, also it's really easy to transfer more money onto while there! :thumbsup2
