I am thinking my kids may each have about $250 each for our trip- I plan to get a gift card for each of them- if they don't spend it all can I get the cash back for what is left on the card or am I SOL? If I can't I guess I will just do a bit at a time but I was hoping to just do it all at once-

TIA, Jen

I'm not exactly familiar with a "Disney Gift Card" but if it's like disney dollars, just use whatever balances you have left to tally up your resort bill and/or your last couple days' meals onsite. Ask a CM upon checkin what you can pay with it....I'm confident there will be plenty of ways to spend it:lmao:

DH and I did the honeymoon registry so we received the amount gifted to us on a gift card. I didn't ask about receiving the balance at the end of the trip, but we were told it will never expire. We had about $150 left at the end of our trip, and we plan to use it for our next trip! :)

So, the gift cards aren't just prepaid Visa cards? Are these the ones you get as Disney Visa rewards? I thought you could use these anywhere.

Instead of purchasing a Disney gift card, you can go to your local Disney Store and purchase Disney Dollars. Any unused Disney Dollars can be traded in for cash at Guest Services at the end of your stay.

Enjoy your stay!

Unused balance on a Disney Gift Card CANNOT be refunded as cash.

Unused balance on a Disney Gift Card NEVER EXPIRES, so you can simply save the leftover for your next trip (that's what I do).

But if you never plan on going to WDW again, ever, and really, really, want that leftover $4.28 or whatever you have on the Gift Cards refunded as cash, then a little prior planning can work for you - do this:

When you check into your Disney resort, hand over the kids Gift Cards and have the check-in CM enable room charging on the kids' key cards. The Gift Cards will be a deposit, and the kids' charging limit will be whatever you set, up to $500 if you stay in a Value resort, up to $1000 if you stay at a Moderate, and up to $1500 if you stay at a Deluxe.

When you put down cash, Disney Dollars, or Disney Gift Cards as a deposit to enable room charging, any remaining unspent balance is refunded to you in cash when you check out of the resort. The only drawback to this is minor - you cannot use the express checkout feature, because you have to go to the front desk to get the refund. However, it does have a positive side effect - you can get a print out, at any time, of exactly what was spent, and where, and when, for each of your key cards. And if the key card is lost, it's a lot easier to replace while at WDW than a Disney Gift Card.

That's limited to $100.

That's limited to $100.

It's limited to $100 per transaction. If the OP buys $100 today, returns tomorrow and buys anothter $100, that's totally 'legal.' You just can't buy more than $100 in Disney Dollars at one time.

I personally would get my kids a $150 gift card- and $100 worth of Disney dollars!
Have them use the gift card up first. Then move on to the Disney dollars. My kids could spend the $150 without even thinking twice. Whatever is left of the Disney dollars tread for cash.

Speaking of gift cards, I have one that is different, and I can't figure out where the heck I can use it. It is called a "Walt Disney World Merchandise Credit." Has anyone ever seen or used one of these? I'm trying to figure out if I can use it to purchase tickets.
