I've checked out their web site and it quotes baggage allowance is normally 20Kg including 5Kg hand luggage

Am I reading this correctly?

Do you only get a total of 20Kg per person?
Has anyone traveled with them lately that can confirm this?
We are talking long haul to Sanford if that makes any difference.

Cheers

Tony

At £20 a Kg. I'd have to wait something pretty bad.:worried:

Are you sure it's that much? I thought I'd read £6/kg. :confused3

need to take more? - excess baggage
Any additional hold baggage carried in excess of the above allowances may be subject to excess baggage charges on a per kg basis.

Please note that the maximum single item baggage weight that will be accepted at any of our UK airports is 32kg (70lb). Any single bag weighing more than this will not be accepted at check-in. This restriction has been brought into place by the Airport Authorities following consultation with airlines, handling companies and unions to help reduce the manual handling injuries amongst airport staff.

Monarch's current excess baggage rates are set out below:

Shorthaul flights - £6 (GBP) / €9 (EUR) per kg
Longhaul flights - £10 (GBP) / €15 (EUR) or agreed equivalent in local currency per kg
Flights from USA/Dominican Republic/Maldives - $20 (USD) per kg
Note - Longhaul includes Egypt, Kenya, Banjul and Israel
Excess baggage is accepted subject to hold space and operational capacity.

No, I got it wrong it's £10 or $20 / Kg.

Total 20kg. / person is very tight though.:(

That was the same when we went with them in 2005 and 2006. We just travelled light and made sure our cases where light to start off with, ie canvas trolley bags instead of hard bodied cases.

20kg seems to be standard long haul on charter flights.

When we flew schedule we used to wonder how anyone could possibly use their full 2 x 32kg allowance as we never had anywhere near that much (do you sense 'pride comes before a fall' on the horizon? ;) ). Of course, as soon as we flew charter and were limited to 20kg we seemed to have so much more to pack!

Anyway, we've done the 20kg limit a few times without too much trouble, but it does make you stop and think "do I really need that?"! :teeth:

I could understand 20Kg. plus 5 or 6 Kg. hand but a total of 20Kg. is very light indeed.

Sorry - I didn't read your post properly and didn't realise you were saying the allowance is 20kg combined hold and hand baggage allowance!

Yes, that is how I read Monarch's web site info, too! That does seem very tight

(... off to check our First Choice flights haven't moved the baggage goal-posts since last time we flew with them!)

I've just phoned Monarch and the customer services have informed me that the allowance is 20Kg. total including hand luggage. However most people think it's 20Kg.hold + 5Kg hand and Monarch do not make a charge for this. :confused3
So it looks like we will be going with 20Kg. Hold and 5Kg. hand, or at least coming home that way ;)

LOL! Hope you didn't give them your name when you phoned - you need to look suitably surprised and taken aback when you check in and 'discover' it's a combined allowance! ;)

We fly with Monarch & booked thru T Cook who matched internet price, so we are only allowed 15kg + 5kg hand. We can pay £75 to increase to 20kg each (there's 3 of us) but decided to take chance & have bought holdhalls instead of cases.
