Moms to be Part 4

Morning! I just found this thread this morning so I thought I would join. :D

My name is Liz. I am 34 years old and pregnant with baby #4. DH and I have three daughters Lily, Emily and Kate. Lily is 7, Emily will be 6 in August and Kate just turned 3. This little one is due 2/6. I have already had my first doctor's appointment and everything looked great! We saw the baby's heartbeat :lovestruc I have an appointment tomorrow at the perinatologist to fill out the paperwork for my nuchal fold scan. We will have that done on 8/2.

We have a trip coming up in October to Disney. The girls love the Halloween parade and we had booked a bounceback offer when we were there in May (DH did the Ironman Triatholon.) We decided this time we are going to drive down so we can take our time and I can move around (and stop to pee when I need to-LOL!) This will be my third Disney trip pregnant. We go once a year with the kids so I've done Disney through many different stages of pregnancy.:rotfl2:

Excited to have found this thread! Hope everyone is feeling well!

:rotfl: I think I would have been finding hard, heavy things to throw at him! I am in the same boat - can't even remember packing a bag the last two times cause its been so long.

I must have crossed the line from looking overweight to pregnant over the weekend, because 3 people today (in stores and stuff) asked me when I am due right off the bat.

I didn't pack a bag last time. My water broke on Halloween in 2003 about an hour after a doctor's appt. I sat on the toilet while DH packed a bag - then had him get me a cloth diaper to use to get me to the hospital without looking like I peed my pants :rotfl:

We are going to Disney in September and are still debating whether or not to do MNSSHP. We have done it before in 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008 and have always really enjoyed it. But just debating if it's worth the extra money this time with the baby being due in November. I also went to Disney pregnant with DD - but I am going at the exact same point in my pregnancy this time so I only know what it's like at 31 weeks :rotfl: Enjoy your trip!!

___________________________

Well we almost got our storage shed complete over the weekend. It rained all day Saturday so we only got the lumber picked up and for the most part lost the whole day. I was so sore though. I don't know if it was being pregnant or what but I was in pain Monday and Tuesday. Fortunately today is much better.

I am torn about where the baby will sleep when she first gets home. My dad build a cradle for my nephew when he was born 20+ years ago. I did use it with DD and feel like it is perfectly safe - so that's not the issue. However, it is BIG. And our house is SMALL. It was really a pain in the butt to deal with. So I don't know if I want to mess with it. Part of me definitely does for sentimental reasons. But the other part of me says just get a co-sleeper or bassinet and call it good. What do you guys think? Would you use it or skip it?

Oh....and my nephew has a baby girl who just turned 2 and he didn't even use it for his baby....it really kind of irritated me.

He hasn't asked me any questions about how the baby got into my tummy, but that may come later when I actually start showing. I need to start preparing my answer!

I'm still waiting to tell my work until I'm further along. I'm thinking after the end of the month, then I'll be past 12 weeks.

I'm dreading that question from DS too, luckily he's only 3 and it hasn't occurred to him yet.

I also didn't tell work until after 12 weeks, with a few exceptions. I ran into one of my bosses at the airport at 8 weeks, and he offered to buy me a drink. I don't usually decline ;) so I had to provide an explanation. Luckily he didn't tell anyone else.

I have to share what I just bought Baby G on etsy:

il_430xN.145593573.jpg

I'm also trying to decide on a diaper bag. I'm almost positive I want to get a Ju Ju Be Packabe backpack instead of a messenger bag or tote. I hate digging! But $120 for a diaper bag is crazy! What have you guys decided on?

That is really adorable! I've been looking at headbands on etsy too - so excited to finally be able to buy all the girly stuff!

We also got one of the Skip Hop bags, but the cheaper one from Target. I had a more expensive bag for DS from PBK, but I really didn't like it that much and switched to a mini back-pack shortly after he turned 1.

I know what you mean about feeling like "missing out" because when my DS was little, and before I decided not to go back to work, I said to my mom, but what if I'm not there when he does this, or this, and my mom, oh wise woman that she was, said, "I'd never tell you."

How sweet of your mom! She sounds like such a great lady. My mom wasn't able to watch DS when he was a newborn, didn't start until he after he turned 1, and then only once a week, but she always makes a point of telling me "new" things DS has done or she has taught him. It really drives me crazy, especially b/c most of the things she mentions he was already doing at home. Sometimes I feel like she's trying to hint that I'm not doing enough with DS b/c I work full-time.

Pollito: That is why I am trying to decide exactly what to do with my job. I have been searching for a new position, but part of me thinks I should wait a few months before being aggressive about it again (obviously I've backed off on it since being pregnant). I am WAY overqualified for this job and have issues with pay/benefits etc., but it is really flexible and I will be able to bring DS with me and also get to spend a lot of time with DH because of my schedule and flexibility. I wanted to quit after he was born (which I could, we have saved enough, but why if it works out to bring him with me?) but now I am thinking maybe look for something that starts once he is a few months old instead so I can spend more of that early time with him. He may be our only child (still very up in the air on that) so I would hate to miss out on too much.

It sounds like you have a lot of good options for after your DS is born, whatever you choose! I have been fortunate enough to be home with DS 4 days a week since I went back to work, so I don't feel like I've really been missing out on much. I'm hoping to be able to keep DD with me on days I work from home too, so I can bond with her the way I did with DS.

I wish our Target had all that great stuff... just some things that were barely marked down. Booo.

I had the same problem with the Target closest too me, but then I went to a Super Target the next day that is only a few miles further, and it had WAY more stuff on clearance! :thumbsup2

He's torn between::
Owen Thomas
Owen Alexander
Owen Walter

None of which I hate, so he's having a heck of a time.

Those are all nice names! :goodvibes

I must have crossed the line from looking overweight to pregnant over the weekend, because 3 people today (in stores and stuff) asked me when I am due right off the bat.

Doesn't it feel weird when strangers start commenting on your pregnancy? But still better than them thinking we're just fat!

Maybe just use it for a little bit until you get tired of it, just for sentimental reasons? Most guys aren't as sentimental as women, so your nephew probably didn't even think about using the cradle - or his wife may have rejected the idea for her own family tradition/preference.

Tomorrow is my GD test, not really looking forward to it since I don't like the drink, but I'll survive. At least this practice gave me the option of fasting or not. My appt starts at 8:45 AM, so I'm not sure yet whether I'm going to fast. It will depend on how hungry I am when I wake up. ;)

I had another u/s today and the fluid level is the same as it was last week, which in my mind is great! The Dr will look it over tonight and let me know tmorrow what he wants to do. I am assuming that since it's the same, he will just continue with u/s each week. Phew! I feel like I "bought" myself another week!

DD asked me the other day how her baby brother was going to come out!! I figured it was coming since she "talks" to him through my belly. I just told her that the Dr as a special way to bring babies into the world. I really didn't know what to say.....she's only 3!

Hi, Liz! Congratulations! :goodvibes

I'm dreading that question from DS too, luckily he's only 3 and it hasn't occurred to him yet.

I am super lucky. It has never occurred to my five year old to ask how the baby got in there. Although we did have a very, very interesting conversation about how he's going to come out. I just did basics, and it went fine and he hasn't asked again.

Except that he does tell us he does not want to be in the room. :lmao: To which I always say, don't worry, you won't be. :thumbsup2

Oh, mother guilt. It's the worst kind, isn't it? My mom would get on my case about certain things too, I think that's just natural. But at the same time, she was great about other stuff, so it's all a balance. :goodvibes

You know, I loved that orange drink during my first pregnancy, and this one, I was forcing it down. I empathize.

Glad to hear the good news about the levels! :goodvibes

Well, ladies, I had an ultrasound today and everything looks great. They're guessing that he's about 6 lbs 9 oz (I take it with a grain of salt), and my fluid level looks good as well. Blood pressure was lower than Friday, so I was pleased. Now we'll just have to wait and see if I've dilated any more by this Friday. I doubt it, but it's fun to pretend. :lmao:

When do they usually do the glucose test? I can't remember and just wondering when I should be prepared for it. With DD I was able to drink a 12 ounce can of Pepsi instead and although I don't care for Pepsi it has to be better than what they give you.....at least I think it has to be listening to how much people hate it :)

Glad everything looks good. DD knows that the doctor has to cut mommy to get the baby out, but something came up the other day that not all babies are cut out so she of course asked how they get out otherwise. I just told her that "you know the little hole you have in your tushie? Well when you're a grown up having a baby it gets big enough for the baby to come out." The look on her face was priceless to which I just responded "Kind of weird, huh? But it gets little again." She's 6 though....if she was younger it probably would have been a different answer. She hasn't asked anything since. I'm just glad she hasn't asked how the baby got in there yet....that one will be harder.

Sean Charles made his debut yesterday morning at 7:59am! He was 9 lbs 1 oz (so I guess the u/s estimate was pretty close!) 20.25 inches long and has a head circumference of 15 inches (At least I think that's what they said)! My doctor said it was a good thing we went w/ the RCS because that head and my pelvis would not have worked together... that and the fact that I was still completely undilated.

He's nursing like a champ already. Hopefully we'll get to go home tomorrow, I made all my milestones (IYKWIM). :rotfl: so I get real food tonight too!

I'll write more about the whole RCS experience when I'm not about to nod off myself.

Congratulations! I am so happy everything worked out well for you. :goodvibes He's so cute!

Congratulations Nette! He is adorable!

WDWorBust: I had mine at 23 weeks. Most people on here seem to get it a bit later. IDK why mine was at that time.

Question: How long is the normal hospital stay with the first baby (assuming everything with baby is ok?) My insurance really doesn't say and I can ask my Dr, but don't go back for a week and a half. I was just kind of curious!

Nette, congratulations!! He is soo stinkin cute! I can't believe they haven't let you eat, though! I got bacon and pancakes the morning after I had DS1 and he was born 10:04pm the night before by c-section... so less than 12 hours before I got a meal.

I had my glucose test at 28 weeks, I think? Somewhere in there. I got a 95. That is all I know... I was given the bottle of orange glucola stuff to take home and drink. They gave me a lab order to get my blood drawn an hour after I drank it, just told me to go in and tell them I was on a timed test and they'd do the draw. Pretty easy.

Hospital stays with my OB are 2 days for natural, 3 for c-section. I was induced with DS1 on a Wednesday and if he'd come naturally I would have left on Friday. I had a c-section, though, so I got sent him Saturday.
My insurance pays 96 hours for a c-section, though.. which I wish I'd known back then because I'd of stayed the extra day just for the heck of it. I love my hospital, we were comfortable there and in no rush to leave. This time I'm staying the extra day to heal up a bit better.

Congratulations Nette! I can't see the pic at work, but I'm sure he is just a doll.

My next appointment is next week at 22 weeks so I'm thinking they will have me do it at my appt in August at 26 weeks then. So is anyone else's doctor not checking for protein in your urine? That is something they haven't checked at all this time and I'm not sure if it's because it's too early, or if that's one of those things that have changed over time. I haven't had to pee in a cup yet this pregnancy. (Not that I'm complaining)

I want to say that it's 2 days for regular delivery and 3 days for c-section here too. I went in at about 5pm on Friday night with DD and she was born Saturday at 12:08pm. I went home Monday morning. Of course when we went to her doctor's appt Wednesday we ended up back at the hospital because she was severely jaundiced. Because of that I will probably not be in a rush to leave this time and stay the full time allowed. If we had caught it earlier I think it would have been much easier. Not to mention since we went home and then were re-admitted she was a "dirty" baby (don't you love the terminology) and wasn't allowed in the nursery. I "think" we got to go home on Friday then again but by Thursday before we left I was so exhausted and really could have used some sleep and the nursery would have came in handy.

Congratulations Nette! He is cute :)

I only stayed one night with each one after normal deliveries, but that was my choice. Had my first at 9am and second at 2pm, and went home around 3pm the next day with both. I could have stayed one more night, but I hate "sleeping" in the hospital since sleep seems to be the last thing I do there, so I begged to go home. The nurse with my first one actually gave me a lecture on how horrible it would be when I got home and that I should stay there. If I had listened to her I think I never would've wanted to leave. She had had a bad experience herself.

They have checked mine at every appt., but my Dr. is old - maybe they don't worry about it as much anymore?

I was checked at every appointment for protein, and my doctors were mostly young.

As for how long you stay in the hospital, federal mandates say that insurance has to pay for 48 hrs after a regular delivery and 96 after a c-section. It has nothing to do with how many babies you've had. I stayed the whole time after my c-section (well, fewer hours, but he was born at 10:07pm...you can't check out then!). I'm glad I did since I didn't have any trouble until the day before I left. I felt awful and kept having my heart race. I would have ended up in the ER for what was, in reality, nothing (hormones). Since I hadn't gone home, I got some reassurance from the staff and doctors and just got some rest.

Those of you who are expecting after a c-section, how long did you wait? I mean, did you allow time for recovery, or did you just get pregnant when you wanted to?

Nette, what a beautiful baby! Congratulations!

Irisbud, with my DS I stayed in the hospital two nights. He was born right after noon on July 2nd and we went home around lunch time on July 4th. Not sure if that is normal or not. I had trouble trying to BF him, so I thought they may have kept me longer because of that. Sounds like it's the norm, though.

I obviously didn't wait very long. :rolleyes1 DS was 6 months when I got pregnant this time around.
My OB said I could get pregnant whenever I wanted BUT 12 months is ideal for the body to have plenty of time to replenish nutrients and recover from pregnancy.
She will even let me have a VBAC if I so desired. She pushed me for one. I told her to schedule the OR.

I'm getting Mirena after this since I can't get my tubes tied when I deliver. :headache: 2 boys under 2 is enough for me. :goodvibes

May I ask why you can't get your tubes tied when you deliver?

May I ask why you can't get your tubes tied when you deliver?

I'm going to bet it's the same reason I couldn't... Catholic hospital. I had the option to go to another hospital with my doctor, but I've heard scary things about how regimented and inflexible that hospital is... Not to mention that they apparently have a much higher rate of "intervention".

Ah...okay. That's one of the reasons why I was so glad when I found a doctor locally that was in-network with my hospital. I am getting my tubes tied and avoided the catholic hospitals for that reason (they are really good hospitals though). Does anyone know if I'll have a longer hospital stay because of it? Just thought of that today.
