Moms to be Part 4

Hope everyone had a nice weekend! We went to visit DH's dad and step-mom, which was the 4 hr trip I was talking about in a previous post. All and all it was a fine trip....I am just exhausted now! DD was excellent though and such a good traveler!

I'm getting freaked now though because I feel like I have A LOT to do before baby boy arrives in 12 weeks or less!!! Can't believe I am already going to the Dr every 2 weeks now! That still has not sunk in that I am this far along in this pregnancy! I feel like I just got to the point when I don't have to worry about m/c and here I am thinking about actually having the baby! We registered DD for a sibling class they offer at our hospital. I think she will love it :)

Hi everyone. I hope everybody had a nice holiday weekend!

We did a lot of work on baby's nursery this weekend. It is almost ready for him (well, as ready as it's going to be!). DH built some shelves and put up all of the ones we purchased, painted some picture frames and put up the artwork we bought, put up my curtain rods and tiebacks, and did several other "handy" sort of things. He collects vintage Disney toys, and he also pulled a bunch of those out and put them on a shelf too high to use as decoration. Now I am waiting for my valences and drawer pulls to arrive, have to get a few misc. decor items!

I also need to pick out a chair. We are deciding between just a rocking chair, a recliner, or a glider with the gliding ottoman. The glider is my first choice, but the room is sooooo small that I'm not really sure it will fit in there, or that anything but the rocker will for that matter. I am thinking we will just go with a regular rocker and I can always use one of our big, comfy living room chairs if I have to sit for a really long time with him.

I can't wait until it's all ready and I can post some pictures, but that will probably be another couple of weeks!

Love hearing everyone else's stories and experiences! We got back to the Dr. on Thursday (I am lucky that DH always goes with me), then we start going every two weeks!

Have a great day everyone!

I had my 24 week check up today and doing good. Gained another 3 lbs for a total gain of 16 lbs. My Dr's not worried so I'm trying to not worry about my weight. It's so hard since I was overweight to begin with, and I'm now at my heaviest ever. Baby Daniel is doing good and everything looks great. I go back in 3 weeks for the GTT and then see my Dr in 4 weeks. I also talked to the Dr about my due date and they moved it back to the 22nd of Sept. Still scheduled for the 16th for the c-section. All in all a good day.

One week from today I should be welcoming my little girl into the world! :lovestruc

OMG! YAY! :cloud9:

Heck, I'm 30w4d and still feel out of the loop! I mostly lurk and post every now and then.

We've spent most of the weekend doing baby stuff. We finally got the crib put together Friday night and spent all day Sunday baby shopping (mainly clothes up at the outlets- Squirt has faaaaaar too many clothes but they're so darn cute!) and finally picked up the crib mattress at BuyBuyBaby (since we finally have one "nearby"). We spent today setting up more stuff in the nursery and bought a bunch of little toys at our local baby shop (ALL Chicco and Sassy toys were $2, regardless of size!) because DH worries that we don't have enough toys  There's still a lot to do but at least I feel like we've accomplished stuff and at the very least have a place for her to sleep.

I wish we spent the weekend doing baby stuff! We spent the weekend doing nothing and bickering over what to do. lol. So we did nothing at all.

DS has a *ton* of clothes already-- I'm going to have to forewarn people not to buy him clothes (ha, right, with our families, as if they would anyway... ugh!) That's awesome about the Sassy and Chicco toys. There's a Buy Buy Baby about an hour and a half away, I wonder if it's worth the drive. If I'm in that area, I'm definitely going to check it out!

Haha, DS is going to have a place to sleep... DD needs a new bed. I'm torn between a toddler bed and a twin bed... I found a nice bedding set at Pottery Barn kids, and that's a twin set. Hmm. They have something similar in a toddler set, but then in a short time we're going to have to buy her the bigger set anyway. Or I could just buy the twin comforter, it's not like she uses a comforter anyway. Hmm. I just want to find an inexpensive but not horrible twin bed. I figure she'll be in a full bed by 9-10 anyway. I dunno what to do!

So glad the trip went well for you! :) I know what you mean, I'm 98 days from my due date. EEEEEEP!! He'll probably come a few weeks earlier because of the RCS, so yeah... eeeep!! I just have to get my tooshie in gear. DH isn't worried, but he doesn't seem to care. He'd let the kid sleep in a drawer and wear DD's old clothes (just kidding...somewhat!) I'm going to sign DD up for the sibling class too, I've heard great things about them from quite a few other mommies.

OMG!! You're so ambitious! Can I borrow some? Seriously! That is awesome :)

I'm at my heaviest ever, too. I gained a lot more than 3lbs though! Dr. isnt worried either, so I'm not sweating it. Glad you had a good appt! :)

Oh gosh I just realized I didn't post about my appt! lol. I had my appt Friday, DH and DD came with me, I didn't have anyone else to watch her during my u/s, so DH took the day off. (Hence, the long weekend gripes) It went well, apparently my placenta is in two connected pieces. He seems to be growing just fine along the curve, so they're not worried. I do get a snazzy u/s every 4 weeks though. Fine by me! Oh, and when I was told he was 80th percentile, that was a mistake. He's around the 50th, 48th this time... just like DD. That makes more sense, we're not big people! lol

I met the OB, well, one of them. She was really cool, I like her. She's pretty young, down to earth. Perfect! She said because my placenta is in the situation it is, a repeat c/s is the safest thing for me and baby, because if I did a VBAC, a piece of the placenta could get left behind and not come out like it's supposed to. :scared1: So yea, rcs it is! I asked her about the going into labor before the rcs thing, and she said oh yeah, if you're 36, 37 weeks, we just do it that night once we verify that you're in labor. Phew!

That's about it. I go back on the 18th of June for my GTT and visit.

Today, my friend is coming from out of town, not quite sure what we're gonna do, but I think we're gonna get DD a pool for the patio. We have a big pool up at the clubhouse thingie, but the water will be *freezing* for awhile now. Seriously-- it's the coldest pool ever.

We also did nursery stuff too. Pulled out all of DDs old clothes and I'm realizing that I may end up buying stuff because #2 will be 5 months behind season-wise. Fortunately we have gotten quite a few baby gifts which include tons of onesies, so we will be good to go til winter at least.

Is anyone still having trouble deciding on a name? We kinda like one, but I'm not 100% sold on it. Any good baby name websites?

Parents Connect (part of nickelodon/nick jr) has a LOT of names and you can sort by nationality, popularity, etc etc. I liked it!

We finally decided on a name, unless something better comes up. LOL. I'm just wondering if Kenobi is too dorkalicious of a middle name for the first name Ben. :lmao:

I'm just sad I'll probably never get my little Leilani!

I am so ready to start getting ready for this baby....but until we know gender I would just be spinning my wheels. I really would rather have a girl because it would just be easier. DD was born November 1st and it's looking like this baby will be born November 5th (Scheduled C-Section) unless I go into labor before then so I should be totally set on clothes unless this one is REALLY big or REALLY small as long as it is a girl. Also at this point I really don't know how we will set things up. DD still fights sleeping by herself and ends up in bed with me in the middle of the night and DH retreats to her bed when that happens - I don't know where to put a baby. Our house is tiny (2BR1BA) so I don't have a whole lot of options and although we are planning on building I don't think there is any way humanly possible for us to get our house sold and the new one built before November. I just wish the house fairly would sell our house and POOF a new one in our lot!

Oh and DD and I have decided on a name for a girl...but we haven't sold DH on it yet. Haven't even thought about boy names though.

I dunno why, but I think you're having a girl! Not that I'm any kind of psychic, haha. We live in a 2BR too... DS is moving in with us, and DD is getting her own room, which is a junk room at the moment, with mostly her junk in it!

Hey, if you get a house fairy, can you send her our way? lol

Frustrated! I really want to go into labor on my own and have this baby! My dr said if I make it to induction Thursday a.m. he'll break my water, use cervidil and possibly some pitocin to induce. I don't mind the first two so much, but I hear pitocin horror stories which is a big reason I'd like things to just get moving on their own. He also asked if I was planning an epidural - I told him I'd been planning on playing it by ear but was not anti-epidural, and he said a benefit of me having one is that it does help keep blood pressure down during labor for women who have struggled with that.

In a way I'm glad to hear that because I think it gives me an even "better" reason to have one if I need it ;) but I was also looking forward to being able to move around, not be catheterized (which I think is likely if not inevitable with epidural - not sure what my hospital does), and recover quickly if I was able to labor without it. He didn't say I have to have one, so I think a lot depends on my blood pressure while I labor, and if it is high I have no problems getting it. I'll probably want it anyway. :lmao: I'm just kind of trying to go into everything with an open mind. I'm not uber-natural or anything, but I kind of want to see what my body can do on its own at first, even if I am likely to take the interventions offered after all. If not for the high blood pressure, I'd not be taking him up on the induction in the first place just because I hear labor can be easier if it happens spontaneously rather than artificially.

DH has been super sweet and helpful though. He asked me to make a list of things I wanted done around the house before the baby comes, he's done it all and he keeps telling the baby it's time to come now. :) He's going to be a great dad.

I've had labor come naturally and been induced, and they were about the same. It went faster when I was induced, which meant less of a break between contraction, but at least it was over quickly! I would soooo get an epidural if I could (can't because of rods in my back). I thought the getting up and moving around sounded good, but for me, the thought of doing anything other than lying in bed once things really got going was just a joke. I tried to get up once and just about tossed my cookies. Just my opinion, but oh boy would I jump on an epidural if I had the chance!

Ooooo 16 weeks huh? Are you gonna find out the sex soon? And you're right, posting here is better/safer than any baby center board. That board moves WAY too fast for me anyways. And the FF boards are depressing because there have been SO many m/c's that it makes me scared.

I agree that finding out the gender is a nice little treat mid way though and I can't wait to find out. DH is convinced it's a boy though. I'm a little afraid he's gonna be disappointed if it's a girl.

I agree about the other boards, and about finding out - it's something to look forward to in the middle. And, if DH is disappointed, the way I look at it is then he can get over it and be ready to welcome his new little girl by the time she actually gets here! I was disappointed with my 2nd DS, but was totally ready and happy by the time he came :)

Hi Leger - I understand your point - I tend to lurk even on this nice board- I guess I just feel like I don't have much to say sometimes or that everyone already knows one another...I do read everything and have learned lots - this is my first and I get the sense I am older than most here - I'll be 38 when little one arrives - a very pleasant surprise for us after repeatedly being told we could conceive. The few questions I have asked everyone has been very helpful and forthcoming.

:thumbsup2

As for an update from me - we have picked a name for our little girl - Danielle and we have finally stopped referring to her as "baby girl" or as yet to be named baby (insert last name here).

My sister sent us a britax roundabout carseat - we purchased an infant one so she called and asked if she could buy us the convertible one for when they are older - of course we said sure!

So far we have purchased a Graco travel system (only because I got it on clearance for $50, brand new, in box at walmart) it is bulky and not what i wanted but I couldn't pass up the deal - I am a frugal fanny....:rotfl:

and I bought a gently used (said never used; but who knows) Kolcraft Step 2 activity center that turns into the push behind walker for our little diva - my first ever purchase off craigslist - I got it for $40 and it retails for about $110

We were given a bouncy seat as a gift - same sister as the carseat - she seems unable to stop shopping

I feel like we are so far behind and have so much to buy/do. Our "nursery" is filled with junk - spare bedroom/office furniture that all needs to be stored in the basement before I can even begin to envision a nursery for Danielle....feels a little overwhelming - I figured we would tackle it this weekend but hubby hurt his arm so we continue to procrastinate

I like the name :goodvibes. Yay for your sister! And never underestimate the power of nesting! I have gotten soooo much done toward the end of the other two pregnancies. One of my firends organized and scanned her entire HUGE recipe collection, on top of having a toddler and a preschooler, and got the nursery ready and redid a bathroom :worship:

Hah - remind him HE wanted more toys when they are overflowing from every corner of the house :rotfl:

I would go for the twin - so much more longevity. We got decent twins for our boys a few years ago for around $150 each, I think.

Ladies I need some advice on the nursery. We have chosen to go with the Disney Theme and paint the walls off white and add murals. The bedding is red with dark gray mickey heads all over it. I used the same fabric to make my nursing cover. The playpen will be the mickey in the house pattern. Anyway I've had 2 thoughts on the murals. 1 being paint the main icons for Disney World. The mk castle, epcot ball, ak tree of life and dhs hat. 2 being the different mickey characters either individually or in a group. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, etc. I plan on using pictures I have or found online and using a projector, project them on the wall and then color them in. So which should I go with? Any other ideas for murals?

Those sound fantastic!! I would love a room with the icons in it....but would probably go with the characters for baby's room.

I had considered changing DD's room to an "underwater" theme focusing on the Little Mermaid for her and then I could also have Nemo characters so it could really work for a girl/boy room since they will eventually be sharing. However, I think we might actually get our new house built before they really end up together and I think the idea was a little ambitious for me anyway :rotfl:

That is really nice to hear....I know it sounds dumb but it seems like everyone I know has these huge houses and then there is DH and I and our little 800 square foot house that is overflowing with junk!

I am so hoping you are right about it being a little girl ;)

Our house is small as well, right around 1,000 sq ft. We do have 3BR / 1.5Bath, but they are tiny. I barenly have room for a crib, dresser, and chair in baby's room, and our king size bed leaves about 1.5 feet on either side and 3 ft on the end in our room. We have virtually no storage either, thanks to our house being old and having tiny closets, so trying to stay organized in the face of this baby coming is a joke! Oh well, we plan on moving within the next year and until then we own it, free and clear, so even with all its problems it could be way worse!

Went to the doc today and baby looks good. Apparently he is now measuring 2 weeks ahead of schedule. The doc used the word "huge" more than once...:scared1: According to measurements, he now weighs just over 3 and 1/2 pounds. I'm definitely not going to see my August due date.

Wow, "huge" scares me too!

I went to the doc today also. DH even came along because we figured we would find out for sure what it is. It is still an it! The little bugger just wouldn't cooperate - sitting straight up and down and hiding in my pelvis so the dr. couldn't make anything out. Arrgh - one more month of waiting. It was a total roller coaster, too - "oh, that looks like a boy, oh no well that looks like a girl and so does that" - he finally gave up. But, everything looks healthy - yay!

Aww, sorry your little one wasn't cooperative. Do you plan to try again to find out the gender or keep it a surprise?

Had membranes swept today...definitely uncomfortable/painful enough that I held my breath, but it was over quickly. Felt about like you'd expect a pap to feel (which has never been a problem for me) but with fingers sweeping around instead of a q-tip. :scared1: I have some spotting now which is not uncommon. Still hopeful that baby will come before my induction scheduled for Thursday morning. :)

Ouch, I hope things are starting to move along for you now!

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm finally starting to embark on the 2nd trimester and my m/s is fading away. I still have a bit of post nasal drip but other that that things are well. I had an u/s on Tuesday and baby looks great with a hb of 166bpm. He/she is SO cute already! We got a picture where it looks like baby is sucking it's thumb. :goodvibes My next appt is June 29th. We're also going on a babymoon to WDW the first week of July so since my OB won't do an early gender scan we're gonna go to a private place the week before to get the gender scan done so we know the sex of the baby and can get gender specific things while at WDW. :thumbsup2 Can't wait!

Anyways, I guess when I get a bit further I'll check in more but like I said, you all are so much further ahead of me and this is my first baby I don't know a lot of the things you are talking about.

At least you're getting well-read on what's to come! Seriously, feel free to check in and vent or ask questions any time - we've all been at your stage, and it really doesn't feel like it was that long ago! Good luck with your early gender scan, I'm still debating an elective one to confirm DD is still a girl!

Well ladies....I am finally getting to the point that I'm glad I bought a doppler. I finally found it at home the afternoon they found it at the doctor's office. Since then DD will ask if we can listen to it every few days and although there have been a few times we couldn't find it the majority of the time I can now. It's very reassuring....and I'm not near as stressed anymore that when we don't I don't wig out.

Glad the doppler is finally working out for you! I'm finally at the point where I can feel DD moving every day, so I am relaxing more and more.

Danielle is a nice name :goodvibes Our "nursery" is still filled with junk too - and I just keep adding more baby stuff to it that I buy!

Oh and don't worry about being older than some of us.. age 'ain't nothin' but a number!' I feel like I'm 29 going on 50...

I turn 29 on Saturday :ssst: (for real!) but often feel much older b/c we go to bed so early most nights!

One week from today I should be welcoming my little girl into the world! :lovestruc

Woo-hoo! You must be so excited! Are you all ready?

Wow, busy weekend for you! BGNN (baby girl no-name) has way too many clothes too, but they are just all so darn adorable - plus I mostly try to restrain myself to clearance items and things that are too cute to pass up! :cutie:

We registered DD for a sibling class they offer at our hospital. I think she will love it :)

Glad you had a nice trip. I'm going to try to look for a sibling class for DS too - he probably won't love it as much as a girl would, but I think it will be helpful!

Sounds like you had a busy weekend - must be such a relief to finally have the nursery ready!

You are exactly 1 week ahead of me! :goodvibes I will probably have my RCS around the 21st or 22nd of Sept. I hear you on the weight gain. I have gained much faster with this pregnancy than the first and am very worried about topping my highest previous weight, which was during the pregnancy. I'm worried it will be harder to lose the weight, etc etc. But we just have to keep remembering that a healthy baby is the most important part!

Haha, DS is going to have a place to sleep... DD needs a new bed. I'm torn between a toddler bed and a twin bed...

When DS3 started climbing out of his crib, we first took off 1 wall, then moved him to a twin bed about 1 month later. It is from Ikea and he loves it - calls it his Buzz Lightyear bed!

I asked her about the going into labor before the rcs thing, and she said oh yeah, if you're 36, 37 weeks, we just do it that night once we verify that you're in labor. Phew!

That's good news!

Is anyone still having trouble deciding on a name? We kinda like one, but I'm not 100% sold on it. Any good baby name websites?

DH still won't even talk about names. I have a couple in my head, but none I really love as much as the one we had picked together but in-laws "stole" in March. I really like the Baby Name Wizard Book, which sounds similar to the website Mrs. Charming mentioned.

Ladies I need some advice on the nursery. We have chosen to go with the Disney Theme and paint the walls off white and add murals.

I would probably go with the characters for baby's room.

I warn you, this is long, and not completely pregnancy related. I’m just a little shocked and need to’ talk’ this out.

In February my company announced drastic changes in the department I work in. They would be taking about 50 senior-level salaried positions and replacing them with junior level hourly positions. They would be layering in about 6 people to supervise and be the ‘go to’ people for the new people. These 6 people would stay at their same salary, but receive a different title and travel. So about a month later, I interviewed for one of these 6 positions and about two weeks after that I was told that the job was pretty much mine, and then I had to go out on bed rest (which obviously wasn’t something that I had planned on).

Today I got a phone call from my company’s central office and they’ve decided to go in a different direction and my last day of employment will be July 28, one day after my short term disability ends. They didn’t exactly tell me what the direction they were going with, but I get the feeling it’s the opposite of the pregnant woman who had to go out on leave 6 weeks early.

I had been contemplating giving my notice either before or after returning to work, but I hadn’t made up my mind, and I am grateful that the company told me now rather than waiting till right before I was scheduled to return, but I have a really icky feeling about this whole thing.

The good news is that I should have plenty to keep me busy since I won’t be working and it will be nice not to have the stress of my job. Both my husband and I really think this is all for the best, but I still have a slightly unsettled feeling.

I would just look at this as a blessing in disguise. If I remember correctly you had decided to not return but didn't want to lose your STD so now you won't and you don't have to worry about when to give notice. Everything happens for a reason and I think in this case it was to take that weight off your shoulders :)

Yep! I am being induced at 37 weeks exactly... Well, really they are starting everything the night before, but they assume everything will happen Monday.

Yeah Lauren - I am jealous I wish my bun was fully cooked and ready to meet us!

Glad you had a good trip! I decided after freaking out this weekend about all we had to do - that I needed to stop stressing (easier said then done for me) but I did set a 60 minute timer and began to sort through some of the items in the "spare" bedroom that must either find a home in the basement or head off to goodwill....so Danielle can have a nursery.

I can't wait until we have the nursery as put together as yours sounds! Congrats. I am thinking of getting a plain old wood rocking chair (like from the cracker barrell) and just using pillows or cushions for it - I'm frugal and can get that rocker for $140 and whatever it will cost for cushions - the glider I like is huge $$$$ - DH is a big man and we are looking at the grande by Shermag and they want $500 - yikes:scared1:

I had my 24 week check up today and doing good. Gained another 3 lbs for a total gain of 16 lbs. My Dr's not worried so I'm trying to not worry about my weight. It's so hard since I was overweight to begin with, and I'm now at my heaviest ever. Baby Daniel is doing good and everything looks great. I go back in 3 weeks for the GTT and then see my Dr in 4 weeks. I also talked to the Dr about my due date and they moved it back to the 22nd of Sept. Still scheduled for the 16th for the c-section. All in all a good day.
Temair I started out way overweight and "they" suggested I only gain 15 lbs total- I am only 1/2 way and have gained 10 so far... The 3 drumstick ice cream cones I had yesterday may have something to do with that;)

Hope you have a great time with your friend

We were the opposite - we could only agree on a boy name and when they said "girl" we were completely thrown for a loop

I vote characters since your little one will see the characters in so many other places - tv, stores, etc and will easily identify with them

That is really nice to hear....I know it sounds dumb but it seems like everyone I know has these huge houses and then there is DH and I and our little 800 square foot house that is overflowing with junk!

I am so hoping you are right about it being a little girl ;)

Add us to the small house list - our house is listed at 950 sq. feet but they include a partially finished basement - only the dust bunnies and cobwebs live down there in my basement! We have 2 tiny bedrooms and only 1 bathroom circa 1955.....paradise :lmao:

I had an appt today with my reg. OB (high risk OB appt tomorrow) and she dropped a bomb about beginning week 32 I will have to come in twice per week for NST (I finally learned an acronym - :) Non Stress Test on Danielle. I thought it because I have "old eggs" but the internet seems to indicate my diabetes likely has more to do with it than my age....So I have that look forward to down the road. All I can say is its a good thing I only work part-time otherwise 16 "extra" visits would hard to swing with a real job.

Otherwise Danielle's heartbeat sounded fine - my OB had a resident student training with her today and they asked if I would mind if he came in - so he came in first and conducted the whole appt by himself - then he left - gave her his findings and they came in together at the end. It was a little weird - but I guess everyone has to learn. I'm not entirely convinced he wasn't listening to my own heart beat- but since I have another u/s tomorrow with high risk OB - I didn't worry about it too much.

If anyone wants to post nursery pics I'd love to see them and maybe it will inspire me to get cracking

I think I understand your mixed feelings - I would be wondering too if the company's decision was totally above board - like hey are they are allowed to do this!!! But it also sounds like you didn't have to make the tough decision of when/how to give notice. I am sure it will all work for the best - even if it doesn't seem that way at first. Now you can focus on your little one and not stress about work stuff...:dance3:
