Moms to Be Part 3

Hi everyone!!:flower3:
Hope everyone is doing well, I'm doing okay I went to the ER again the other night for breathing problems and really bad stomach pains. It ended up just being acid in my stomach so. I has a dr appt today and we found out that were having a BOY!!!:banana::cool1::cool1:

oh lucky you!!! I'm due a few days before you (march 5th) and have to wait another 2 weeks to find out. I'm so anxious!!!! :rotfl: Congratulations on your little man!!

Has anyone gotten the flu shot yet? I know that I should be getting it but do I go to my primary care physician? I just had a checkup yesterday (and got to hear the heartbeat - yea) but didn't think of asking when I was there...

I am going to have to look into papaya enzymes. I am having super stomach issues.

Does anyone's OB have anything to take for gas? I don't have anything listed on my sheet.

As far as the flu shot, we are not getting them at all.

I will be getting my flu shot at CVS when they have their clinic days. I need to call and make my kids appt as they get their flu shots at the pediatrician. My husband is required to get a flu shot at work so he will get his there.

Hulagirl - The waiting is the hardest part! As much as I wanted to not find out what my kids were before birth, I don't think I could have held out knowing that they look in that area on the ultrasound and that the tech and my dr know!

As for the flu shot, when I went to the doctor last weekend my doctor offered it to me for free and EVERYONE kept insisting I get it. My husband, the nurse and my doctor. I caved to the peer pressure and got it. Then I was mad at myself for allowing myself to cave to it! Two days later my cousin called and her little girl was sick with the flu and she was cleaning up after her and she was like "Maybe it was a good thing you got the shot.":rotfl:

Who knows if I will ever benefit from it. I am a teacher and am around a lot of sick kids but who knows!

Tink - I think being a teacher you are the perfect canidate for the shot. I am a SAHM with one DS and DH that will soon be working out of the house. Not a lot of contact for us!!

I have my big U/S on October 23rd. Can't wait!

I have a question. When I get in bed at night, if I move a lot , I get cramps in my low stomach, to one side or the other. It's kind of a momentary thing-fairly extreme, but short-lived. It always scares me, since it took so long to get pregnant and I'm afraid every little thing is something going wrong. Has anybody else had this? I'm 9 weeks tomorrow.

Here's a bit on WebMD about round ligament pain (which is probably what's going on with you): http://www.webmd.com/baby/pregnancy-round-ligament-pain Hopefully it'll make you feel less worried about it.

It's normal for your abdomen to have some pain, because everything's getting weird in there. Expect to feel "off" for a while. :) I know once I started feeling DD kicking, I started worrying less. But then, she was a major wiggle worm. Still is!

I am talking with my doctor about the flu shot when I go in for my next appointment. Before my oncologist discharged me last year, he reminded me to make sure I get a flu shot every year, because of the chemo I had, and because of the severe pneumonia I got near the end of my chemo treatments. I want to see what my OB has to say.

DMickey...keeping my fingers crossed for pink for you!! Didn't work for me, but it might for you!

Hi everyone. I was just looking arund the disboards and I stumbled onto these threads, this is something I've never had to even think about before! Usually I'm looking for tips on how to fit the most thrill rides into one trip, and now I'm looking into what I can't ride b/c I'm pregnant.

I'm making my thirty-something-ish trip from PA in less than 2 weeks, and will be 25 weeks pregnant at the time. I'm very excited, but it will be different. I'm actually meeting my parents and brother there, my husband is staying home to get some continuing education credits done without me around to sidetrack him!

I didn't have time to read many of the previous posts, it's on some page in the 100's with 2 old filled threads, so I'm not really sure what I should be posting for an initial intro. I hope this was appropriate.

By the way, I'm due January 24, 2010 and we are not finding out the sex.

My oncologist always had me get it too, and I haven't ever had the flu since. But I haven't gotten it this year, and don't know if I will. It made sense to me while I was in college and even grad school - but right now the only place I go with a bunch of people is church. . . . and when the baby comes, I won't be going out for a few weeks. . . so I'm torn as to what to do. I definitely do not want the H1N1 for me or the baby because I am afraid with how quickly they produced it and it is still unknown on side effects and such. Maybe I'm just nutso, but it is what I think - what about you all?

They talked me into doing to the regular flu shot but they wouldn't talk me into getting the swine flu shot! Thankfully, I will have delivered by the time it is available and won't have to deal with them shoving it down my throat.

I read something a while back that said that babies can receive antibodies against the flu through breast milk. Therefore, even though the baby is too young for the vaccine, he could still get protection from the virus if the mother was vaccinated (or had already had the flu). Also, they are saying that the H1N1 vaccine has fewer side effects than the normal seasonal vaccine shot.

Whatever you decide, hopefully you won't get the flu.

All vaccines are sort of mandatory in our house. My husband *has* to get them for work or he can't come in. This goes for all vaccines, not just flu, but that is included. And when swine flu comes out I am sure he will have to get that too.

My kids effectively have to get vaccinated as well, in that someone is bound to get the flu in their school so I'd rather them not catch it and pass it along to me. Plus their ped suggests that everyone in one of the 'at risk' groups get one, which includes kids whose parents are pregnant or those with newborn/infant siblings.

My mom is also a cancer survivor and has to get the flu and pneumonia vaccines each year according to her oncologist too. She had her surgery in 2002 and was finished with chemo and radiation in 2003, but she still needs the vaccines. She never got them previously and isn't a fan, but the oncologist says it's necessary for her. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that she periodically rides the train to visit her small grandchildren (about 2.5 hours on the train) or not.

My OB (whom I saw today) said "Flu shots will be in by the end of the week. If your husband doesn't bring one home, come in next week and get one." Totally unsolicited as I had not mentioned flu shots at all. So while he can't force me, he definitely thinks I should get it. ;) Plus I'd be the only one in my family without the vaccine so I bet that wouldn't be a good thing if anyone else is a germ carrier.

Regarding swine flu, like I said my husband will likely have to get the vaccine for it and my kids and I likely will as well. We're pretty trusting with vaccines (not that it is a good thing), but they are drilled into my husband's head all the time and I'm thinking that if the hospital requires every provider to get them, they must be fairly certain it is safe cause that would be quite the loss if everyone got bad reactions or side effects and they had no staff.

We'll also be flying next month and in November, so many germy people in a confined area and I'd likely be safer vaccinated.

Now, if we weren't going away, my husband didn't work with disease potential, I didn't have small kids, didn't work with kids, etc., then I might pass on the vaccine.

The rest of my OB visit was fairly uneventful, though I do have to go back on Tuesday for an ultrasound to check my cervical length (and do that periodically throughout the rest of the pregnancy), and also get my flu shot. ;)

My OB told me that as well. She said it takes between 10-14 days for the antibodies to get completely into your system, and then your baby will get them through your milk.

We went in for our final appointment today, and he must have just hit the end of a major growth spurt the last time they measured him. Today he measured at 8lbs 14 oz, which is still on the large side. As far as I know we are still going ahead with the c-section on Friday.

Now its off to grade a whole bunch of stuff so that I can put in grades before the end of the day tomorrow! Fun night ahead of me!

Ugh. The school I've spent the past 2 days at has a confirmed case of swine flu, as do several other schools in my district. I guess I'm coming clean to my boss tomorrow in hopes of figuring out how to do more of my job from the office until I can be vaccinated and give it time to be effective. Just terrific.

Yikes! Just be sure to wash your hands often. Try not to touch your nose, eyes or mouth too much either - unless you JUST washed your hands and didn't touch anything.

I am a big proponent of the flu shot normally, and when someone is pregnant it is even more important. I got my regular flu shot as soon as it was available in my area, in early September. When the H1N1 shot is available here I will be first in line! The flu is more dangerous when you're pregnant, and I don't want to endanger my baby as well as me if I get sick. The CDC recommends all pregnant women, health care workers, and younger people get H1N1 vaccine. I have 2 of those risks, but like I said I am religious about the flu shot regardless.

I just looked it up. In adition they recomend it for caretakers of infants under 6 months and those ages 25-64 who have medical conditions putting them at hight risk for complications of the flu. Young people means ages 6 months-24 yrs.

OK, last edit. Here's a good link, I hope it works. http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/pregnancy/antiviral_pregnant_qa.htm
I'll try to get off of my soap box, it's just something I believe strongly in. If it doesn't link (I don't know what i'm doing), you shoud be able to copy and pste.

Well I have reached my due date!!:cool1:

I want to take a look at my ticker!!:rotfl:

I go to the Dr. today, I will let you all know how it goes!:yay:

Good luck at the dr today, IHeartTink!

Linzybrooke - Glad to hear your little man has slowed his growth a bit. I hope tomorrow goes smoothly for you. The big benefit to c-sections (according to my friend who had 2 of them, after 2 v births) is that you get to hold the baby that much sooner. ;) She loved going to the hospital for her last 2 kids cause she knew she'd get to see them shortly after checking in, as opposed to the day long labors she had the other way.

And babies do get lots of antibodies from breastmilk. I could just have particularly healthy kids (certainly not my genetics as I catch everything), but I will say that neither child has ever gotten any illness other than colds. We get a notice at least once a week that someone in one of their classes has strep throat but we have never gotten it. So could just be them, could have been the breastmilk, who knows.

Aurora - My daughter was in a camp this summer where 2 kids had swine flu too and I was so scared that I would get it but none of us did. Hopefully you can avoid the contaminated schools for the time being to prevent exposing yourself to germs.

disneylovr - I had to laugh reading your post about vaccines cause I swear my husband could have written that! He could rattle on and on about how you better not plan to leave the house till the spring cause flu germs are everywhere: supermarkets, malls, banks, etc. He constantly washes his hands and is so germphobic.

He is a huge preventative medicine supporter, mostly because of his occupation. Not only is it mandatory to get the flu shot for him, he was just notified that if anyone does not receive the flu vaccine and gets the flu, any days you must miss from work will be taken from your vacation. Given that they basically do not have days off (unless post-call or a weekend that you'r not assigned to be on call), those vacations (which are done by lottery no less) are precious days. Additionally, for most rotations you are required to show proof that you received the flu shot to be allowed to work.

I need to reclaim the playroom after my son destroyed it while looking for a flashlight yesterday. Then I need to get both kids from school for my son's [2 month late] physical and both kids flu shots. Fun times ahead for them (and me with the screams and complaints!).

so you were able to get the regular shot ok? My primary care physician refuses to give me the shot because it is not the mercury free one and they say that it isn't safe for pregnant women. My OB said that it's fine, that the level of mercury is so small they aren't concerned. They told me that I could call my local health department to ask about the mercury free shot. No one at that number could help so they directed me to Public health, which then sent me to NYS Dept of health and then to the CDC and then to a wrong number and then finally to the bureau of immunization in Albany. Man, my phone was on fire yesterday!!!! But I never got an answer. :lmao:

I'm hoping to go to our local fire dept to get the shot there but am worried that I will be turned away for being pregnant... don't know what to do.
