Alexis Erin was born at 8:36 a.m. yesterday morning (08/04/09). :lovestruc She weighed 7 lbs. and is 19 and 3/4 inches long. All my kids were born with lots of hair, but she has more than any of the rest of them. Nursing is going well when she's awake. Getting her to wake up and eat has been a little more of a challenge. But we've been working on it. Today was better. It's been easy to update FB about her from my cell phone, harder to get a good internet connection here at the hospital.

I'll write up more details about the birth when I get home where I know there is a reliable internet connection, but for now I just wanted to pass the news along to everyone. I'll also upload some pictures. But again, I want to wait until I'm using my home connection that I know will work.

CONGRATS!!!

I love your room, my sister in law is pregnant and is due in November and that is their theme and bedding!

I also love that you are just like me and don't know the sex or name of the baby! It is so much fun that way buy boy does it drive people crazy!

::yes:: it really does bother people! And I don't know why. "Back in the day" our parents never knew what they were having, so why bother? :teeth:

I have two BRU coupons for 15% off one item for the week of the 15th and the week after that - the only two big items we still need are our stroller and a breast pump. Both can wait and arn't a necessity but still...it'd be nice to have them. AND I really need to clean/vaccuum/wash windows in my car before this child comes! (If you see me on here after this weekend, ask/remind me!) :rotfl:

Congrats Melissa!!!

OK guys, quit moving me closer to the top! I'm not ready yet!!! :rotfl:

...I got a question for everyone too. We finally got our mattress in the crib. I only have 7 inches from top of mattress to top of crib. Is that OK? Our bumper is 9 inches tall and thus doesn't fit (even though we aren't supposed to have it on there anyways). Should we lower the mattress?? And I know the baby doesn't move at all for a while anyways but still...

It's fine in the beginning, I would think. Ours was more than 7 inches, but I only now that because our bumpers fit, but just to the top, so I guess 9 inches? I would tuck the bumper slightly under the sides of the mattress to make it fit.

Now, not that you will be putting your baby down on its stomach, but my son was able to roll over from tummy to back from birth, no joke. And he was born at 36 weeks, so it was scary and amazing. His NICU nurse told me when she brought him in for a 3am feed and I did not believe her at all, but she said he was on his back and she kept putting him down on his belly and she blamed another nurse for flipping him and she said she didn't do it so they stared at him and saw him flip. (He was under UV lights so that's why he wasn't on his back in the nursery.) I tested it myself the next day and she was right.

Anyway, my point there is to not underestimate their mobility even at birth, so if you have any random doubts, move the mattress down. My son is not some sort of motor skills genius (did everything else in the normal time frame) so I'm sure other babies are flipping at birth too. It appears as though you can bend the top of your crib rail down so if it's at a lower setting you can just bend down the top of the rail to get the baby in/out easier.

But I'd leave it for now and test it out when the baby is here. It's pretty easy to lower the mattress so you can always do it later if you feel it's too shallow.

Adi - I am not having luck uploading from my camera (possibly because I dropped it...) so I took a photo with my phone, that is not that great, but I'm gonna post that anyway in the mean time. Madison wore her shirt to camp and was so excited to show everyone. She also wanted me to ask how you got those butterflies on there. She wasn't satisfied with my answer that you sewed them, I think she thinks you have magical powers. She's also afraid of me washing it, that I'll ruin it. Like I don't do 50 loads of laundry a week!

ETA: I forgot the photo! Ignore the mess of my home, please.

Augh! My name is so close to the top, I can't believe it!

I have been seriously MIA lately, so I apologize. Things are going well, just really, really busy! Hi to everyone who is new! And welcome all the new babies I missed over the last month or so!

God bless!

AWW - YEAY - love it (blurry and all :lmao: ). So, here is how I used my magical powers to get the butterfly's on: The butterfly's are buttons (Shank buttons to be exact, the backs looks like the backs of these buttons: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/56/Shank_buttons.jpg - basically they have a teeny ring on the back side). So I just placed them randomly wherever I thought they would look good and then I threaded a needle and sewed them on by hand :) (Not sure if that is a good enough explanation - if not, it was my magical powers. . . Hermione Granger has nothing on me ;) ). So glad she likes it!! It will be fine when you wash it - I would take some caution with it - but it wouldn't be the end of the world to sew the buttons back on either (though I tried to get them on there as sturdy as possible).

Thanks for the pic - and if you ever get the camera to work, I'd enjoy seeing a clearer one! Tell Madison that I am so happy she likes it!! Flattered too :)

I think I'll just take the memory card out and put it on the laptop and that should work. The laptop is newer and will read the memory card directly, but lately I've been using the archaic desktop for whatever reason. So I'll upload it that way. The only reason I don't normally do that is that we have like 800 photos on the card and so it take forever for the one you want to show up. I know I could delete photos, but having lost so many somehow I have decided to just start keeping the memory cards and buying new ones.

I am able to sleep again and it feels WONDERFUL!!!! For about the last month, it would take me at least an hour to fall asleep at night, didn't matter if I was a little tired, a lot tired, or somewhere in between. I was also waking up probably 8 - 10 times a night as well!

Something in the last week clicked, and I can now sleep. Oh sleep, how much I missed you, and how much I love you!

Oh I hope this happens to me! I get up 5-6 times a night and I hope at some point I get a full uninterrupted night of sleep. Fingers crossed.

I'm so happy for you. I know how frustrating it can be!

I have been having a problem sleeping lately mainly because my nose is almost always stuffed up!

I am a nose breather and am having the hardest time breathing and it is not fun...

Anyone else have this problem?

Have anything that helps? I have been taking Clairitin.

I have been having issues with my nose since I've been Pregnant. Anyhow, I haven't taken anything for it. . . so if you find something that works I may consider it (though I don't like taking med's if I can avoid it).

I don't think I'll ever have a full nights sleep again - at least in the forseeable future. . . I mean I HAVE to get up to go potty 2-4 times a night, then the baby will come and I'm sure there goes that. . . so yea. . . Thankfully I like naps :)

I have that congestion too, but don't take anything for it. I had a lot of allergies pre-kid and was on Claritin, nasal spray, and eye drops. I stopped them all when I got pregnant with my 1st, not sure of what I could take till I went to the dr and in the meantime I realized that I wasn't any worse off without the drugs. So I am just plodding through it again.

I generally can sleep okay overnight, it's actually getting to sleep that I have trouble with. I am sick everynight at 11pm so even though I am tired before that, I can't sleep cause I feel too sick. Lately my son has been crawling into my bed overnight, so that does interrupt my sleep, and a bathroom trip most nights, but other than that I'm okay with the congestion overnight cause I'm so fatigued.

You'll be able to sleep again for a few weeks..... then you will get too big to sleep and trust me the same thing will happen again. Enjoy while you can lol!

OMG ~ I just moved into the last box on my ticker!!!!! He will be here so soon. :goodvibes

Congrats to all the recent new moms, so glad your bundles of joy have arrived. I was just lurking to see who is on the top of the list now.
Melissa I can't believe you are almost on the top of the list. It seems like yesterday I was lurking on the wedding thread and mentioned you to join us over here :lmao:...now I am looking at my one month old princess in her swing and you are soon going to be a Mom.

So exciting!!!!

I'm mostly lurking these days, but I'm so excited because today is my last day of work before Baby! I'm taking Monday-Wednesday off next week to relax and get things ready, and Thurday I'm having my C-section! I can't believe it's here already. :scared1:

ETA: Holy cow, I didn't realize my name is at the top of the list!!

Ive been MIA, too. I cant believe im at the top as well. Ive been doing lots of thank you notes for my showers, cleaning, organizing, packing, washing baby clothes and stuff, you name it!

It certainly is hard to believe how fast the time has passed. It seems like just yesterday I saw the positive on the pregnancy test!

I've been lurking as well, things have just been so busy!

I can totally relate to those of you that can't sleep. I keep getting shooting pain in my hips, I'm just not a side sleeper and I cannot get comfortable for more than an hour or so. Add that to my constant need to use the bathroom, and it is no fun at all! I go back to work for the school year next week and I am going to be one cranky teacher for the first 6 weeks or so until Connor arrives!

Has anyone had any problems finding shoes that fit? I have been wearing croc sandals all summer long but can't wear them at the school. Spent the weekend looking for some decent looking tennis shoes and have had NO luck! I dont' know what I am going to wear on my feet for the next 2 months. Plus, my crocs are stinky and I don't know how to clean them!
