Question:

Do you peek at your shower registry? I peeked at mine because I knew a few things on there were out of stock and I wanted to check and see if they came back in or if I needed to replace them and also to manually update 2 items that my friend bought and sent to me. I mentioned it to my mother and she flipped out ranting about how I can never be surprised etc. etc. I was so excited to see things bought and in a way I think it's twice as exciting because then I get to open it and see who got it. Did I cheat????

I did the same thing. I loved seeing what was bought and trying to guess who shopped early and bought what! I did not tell DM I did , but DH and I loved to chat about it before my shower.

That's great! Question...how does the dr. tell if the head is down? Did they do an U/S or can they just feel where the head is? Cause I never know if I am touching his head or his butt at the top of my belly :lmao: But I guess the dr. would know the difference.
I was told by the dr just feeling the top of my belly, or by U/S

Just got home... very long day!!!!

Went to Dr. at 10:45am. The Dr. office had me hooked up to a NST monitor for about an hour. Dr. was not seeing the spikes the were looking for. She then checked my cervic and said I was 5 cm. & 65 % efaced. She also did and ultrasound to check amniotic fluid which seemed ok. I then was told they wanted me to go to the hospital for additional NST monitoring and a biophysical profile just to be safe.

My SIL went to the hospital with me for the testing. DH's time at work is limited because he just started and really only has time for actual delivery.
Testing took some time and started off slow. My little girl is very stubborn, but showed more movement and spikes. Dr at the hospital said they could not have seen any better results, :woohoo: so no need to do the biophysical profiling. They did another ultrasound and checked my cervic again. I was released and told to call my Dr. to schedule next step.

I am "on call" for an induction between 7:30 - 12 tomorrow. My SIL is coming over to spend the morning with DS & I incase I get a call I need to be there immediately or could lose my spot. If I am not called by noon tomorrow, then I will be a priority induction on Wednesday.......ugh, frustrated a bit. Who knows there is still tonight.

OMG! They let you go home at 5 cm?!

OMG, that's what I'm thinking!! Home at 5cm, even without contractions woulda freaked me out... lol. But, anyways, good baby thoughts to you this morning :)

My biggest fear was going naturally and not having time for an Epi!!!!

Sitting here ready...hoping and waiting for hospital to call me that they have a room. I can't wait to meet my little girl!:lovestruc

No you didn't cheat at all. Besides, YOU put the items on your registry so you already know what your getting! :teeth: At least that's how I see it. And what happens if you run out of stuff on the registry?! :rolleyes1

I did with my wedding one. This one no one has bought anything for because I haven't even sent out shower invites yet, lol! My shower is still 2 months away. . . . but when the time comes I will probably look, the surprise will be who got what for me :) Also, I need to know in order to plan and budget for the rest of the stuff. Maybe your mom just doesn't understand how much of a planer you are ;) Plus like someone else said, YOU put the stuff on the registry. Unless someone buys off registry, then there will be no surprises as to the gifts.

We are registering at two different places (three with Amazon), some of the items are unique to that store, but many are duplicated on the different registers. Therefore, I'll monitor the registers to remove the duplicate items as they are sold. Also, we've been slowly buying stuff. If we buy something that's on the register, I'll need to take it off the list. Also, since we will end up buying the stuff on the register that doesn't get given to us, we still are trying to keep in tune with sales. If we can buy something at a super low price, we might go ahead and do it to save ourselves some cash down the road.

Finally, it's not like anything on the register is a surprise. I fail to see how taking a peek spoils anything.

Wow! stuck in the elevator and a stupid Dr? Is this the same Dr that you delivered with the first time?
Glad you guys are home!

No, I actually had a midwife my first pregnancy-Madeline was born in Key West. So I can say I have never had a doctor deliver either of my babies! :thumbsup2

Thank you all for the congrats and well wishes! Zander actually gave us a four hour sleep last night. My DH asked me this morning if he missed one of Zander's feedings since it felt like we got so much sleep! :rotfl:

I'm hoping that Ann is having success at induction today. There is nothing like waiting around to have a baby!

I peeked at my registry with Madeline. I didn't really do one with Zander but I did with DD. I didn't think of it as peeking but checking! ;) Its fun seeing what is coming-besides you don't really know who it is getting it for you. That's the surprise!

I will keep checking back in here to see how everyone else is coming along but I guess for the most part I will be on the other moms thread now. I will miss you guys! But I know I will be seeing you soon on the other thread!

Well that was fun...

My library lost power for a little over an hour. We just sat around in the dark...good times.

Our union had a meeting with management today...we can either vote to take a 15% decrease in salary or hours OR they're going to lay off 35 of us (out of 100). Fun times...and this is before knowing how much the government is going to cut us by, so it could be even worse.

ETA: I wanted to take a decrease in hours before all of this, so I'm cool...I actually want to take more hours than 15%...hopefully they'll let me.

Wow, Sarah, that really stinks. I still can't believe they are cutting back so much on libraries there. I would think the huge issue is that libraries aren't incredibly funded to begin with, so a cut like that would be really hard to manage.

Disney Ron - Wow, all I can say is you better have a fast and easy delivery after having to wait this long when you're already halfway dilated! Is your hospital very small? I have never heard of the 'on call' induction before. I so hope that they are calling you in at the moment so you can meet your little girl!

Our hospital has something like 10-15 L&D rooms and 3 c-section ORs, so there are plenty of inductions, spontaneous births, and c-sections going on at any given time. Well, there potentially could be at any rate. And if you ask my husband, anytime he's working there are a million laboring women. He was working a 24 hour shift on Sunday and he did 2 c-sections and 4 epidurals, 2 of which were inductions.

Regarding registries, I peeked at mine too. Mostly cause my shower was so close to my due date that I felt the need to buy certain things on my own so there wasn't a huge crunch after my shower to run to the store. The shower date was unavoidable though, because my mom is part of a big family (her mom was 1 of 13 kids, and most of those 13 kids had 3-5 kids of their own) so there were a bunch of other commitments in January and February, and with Christmas no one could really plan anything in December. So I was 36 weeks and change. So by that point, we definitely wanted the carseat and various other essentials.

I can't believe I only have an hour left of my morning before I have to get my son. My daughter is in a pony camp this week and the hours are 10-3, but it's 15 miles from my house. I know that's probably not that far to many people, but since we live inside DC, we never have to go more than 5 miles for pretty much anything. So 15 miles seems so far to me and it's eating into my morning time, which I value immensely. It's only another 3 days though, and she really loves it, so I can't complain too much.

Oh my goodness! I love hearing how different things are.
My hospital has 4 L&D rooms, 2 "observation" rooms where they stick people who aren't in labor but might be their way (which is where I was those nights I had to go in before my induction) and 1 c-section OR.

...still stalking for baby news. I'm taking it that since Ann didn't report back after 6:40-ish am that she got a call!!:banana:

Hope she got there soon enough for an epidural!

I'm still stalking too!

My hospital is actually called Woman's Hospital! You only go there for Women's issues-babies, hysterectomies, etc. One end is all labor/delivery rooms-you are put there when you are admitted, and stay until after the baby is born. I was actually there until 11pm that night, just because they didn't have any post-delivery rooms available. That end also has 2 ORs.

The post-delivery rooms are awesome-it is really large and had a wonderful whirlpool tub that I took full advantage of while there.

They also have other ORs and regular rooms for non-maternity patients. My sister had a hysterectomy exactly one week before I had Katie, and she was in what looked like a regular hospital room.

I can't even imagine having to share a room (like a pp discussed)! All the rooms there are private.

Yay for all the registry peekers, LOL!!!

I am such a planner and I don't expect anyone to get anything necessarily, it is our job to provide for our baby. I was freaked out because we registered for our travel system and he can't come home without a carseat obviously so I was getting worried and wanted to just buy it but someone else did :yay::woohoo: At least he can come home now, the rest of the stuff is we can make do without if need be.

Instead of packing a hospital bag (since it's early and I'll likely forget what I put in there) I am making a hospital drawer. Everytime I think of something I will need I just throw it into the drawer so I don't forget!! It's working great so far and if in an emergency I need stuff I can just throw it into a bag and run out the door.

...and when in a hurry you can toss the whole drawer in the back seat! :teeth: (That would be what my DH would do...if he grabbed the correct drawer...) :rotfl:

OMG I have cramps! Finally a sign of progress!

They feel so weird after not having any for so long! It's a dull steady ache--doesn't come and go so I guess they're not contractions...

We're doing that at my job right now. Each pay period is two weeks long and instead of 80 hours per period, we're required to work 72, max. Each employee is required to take off eight hours per pay period and it's strictly enforced. Whether that means leaving a little early each day or taking one full day off every two weeks (which is how I do it), it's up to the employee's interpretation, but we can't work more than 72 hours per period.

Me too. You didn't have italian sausage for lunch, did you?

Yea! I was stopping in to see if anyone else has gone yet.

There are so many different descriptions of hospitals here. We have private rooms too. The LD floor is seperate from the Mother Baby wing. You have the baby downstairs then move upstairs to a post-baby suite. They are really nice. No whirlpools though.

Ours are all in one rooms - single room maternity care - for admission, delivery and recovery. Each has an awesome tub for hydrotherapy and they also promote use of music, aromatherapy and have a living room type feel. Hopefully it'll be comfortable!

I've replied like three times so far about how my hospital is set up but I find this all fascinating.

The entire hospital has a huge courtyard/garden in the middle and the baby/lady area is a U around that courtyard. The left end of the U is the L&D rooms (where I was admitted and would have had Lucas if I hadn't needed a c-section), the observation rooms and the OR. The right side of the U were the postpartum rooms and the center of the U, where the two sides meet, was the waiting room/elevators and the nursery..

...go Sarah!!!

I'm thinking things are on the go for Ann!!!
