Moms Panel Results!?

Round 2 Reject for Disney's Mom's Panel.

5/4Disney, you've been such a wonderful support to everyone here that I wish you'd take the word "reject" out of your signature. You're definitely a winner to me!

Very true, anything is possible, especially since many of us feel we had a hard time with the phone interviews. They may still call in the troops for reinforcement, so don't count anything out!

I am sure you all did wonderfully with your phone interviews. Be your best critics, now! :cheer2: I wish they could put all of the semi-finalists on the panel. I saw Caldercup once mention she thought there were less than 50 semi-finalists. Oooh, how I would love to be a Panelist! 50 would be a good Panelist number - imagine all of the people they could simultaneously help with their vacation planning questions!

Should be a quiet day on this thread today since there are no interviews. The interviewers must have taken today off to attend MNSSHP! Fun!

I did some calculations, and if they are right, they potentially interviewed 12 on Monday and another 12 yesterday, leaving 2 for tomorrow.

I'm glad my interview is over but the wait isn't much easier...

mom3boys - I believe you are on deck for tomorrow? (Anyone else?) Best of luck to you!!!

Happy Halloween everyone! pirate:

You and me both. Today I received two e-mails from Disney Destinations, guess they just wanted my heart stop or something:sad2: Oh well, like I have said before maybe next time. I'm wishing, I'm wishing, I'm hoping, I'm hoping for my phone to ring!!:rotfl2:

I feel your pain. I am a round 2 reject too! I can't believe how excited I was for this! I just hope WE get another shot at this in the future, before I am too old (ha ha  ) I am so excited for the finalists and that this board is available to listen to all of the feedback. I was a former Cinderella at Princess parties (forgot to put that in my app!). It has been a dream of mine to work for Disney since I was a little girl, but due to personal situations, moving to Florida isn't an option. So, my friends joke around that by the time I can go to Florida and work for Disney, I will be the "Fairy Godmother" or better yet an "Evil Step-sister or Cruella!". I felt the same way, maybe they made a mistake and I will get a non-reject email....but I do know what I did wrong, so hind-sight is always 20/20. No emails but from Disney shopping! I am trying to stay positive that this wasn't just a once in a lifetime opportunity and they will do this again, because this is the only capacity I could work for Disney due to my current situation (family member very ill). I am trying to show my kids how to lose and be proud that I made it this far. It is hard when you want something so bad. Now I understand how my oldest would cry (and try to hide it) when she didn't get a hit when she was playing softball! I feel the same way she did!

Anyway, I am thinking positively for us and for all the DIS to get picked for this amazing board!
:cheer2:

I am so happy for all the finalists!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! pirate:

Congratulations to everyone. :cool1: This is so exciting. It is so fun to read how it is progressing. I just knew some Dis members had to make it. :goodvibes

Can I ask a few questions? I am curious.

Looking at the list not many of the names jump out at me as ones I recognize from around the board before (I have been at Dis for a while now and I am a pretty active poster.) Many have pretty low post counts (on Dis standards.) :rolleyes1

Did any members here join Dis because of the panel contest, or where some more of lurkers before? If they were just lurkers clearly by Disney interest you have more to contribute to Disney conversations then you thought you did!

Did anyone make it who owns DVC? It doesn't seem that way so far. I wonder if they did that on purpose? Like maybe they will have a DVC panel or something like that later.

Congrats again everyone and best of luck! I can't wait to hear all about the process. :thumbsup2

Have a happy Halloween!

Just curious the people who get picked, will you get a free room, food and tickets for the 5 days of training?

I know that some of the people on the 3rd round list are definitely DVC owners... I don't think that was a factor.

I have been a DIS member for a few years, but found a home on another board that has a vibe more in tune with my personality (PassPorterboards.com). I have more than 7K posts there, but I still check DISboards every once in a while -- just tend not to post.

I've loved this thread -- the excitement and enthusiasm and ESPECIALLY the support have been wonderful. (Reminds me of my "other home.") You all have a great sense of humor and fairness. LOVE IT!!
Eileen

PS - I still stick with my idea that the original group selected for Round 2 was somewhere between 50-100 (more likely around 75). I had checked all over the 'net and found about 30 references to making it to round 2. Figuring that there were a few people who didn't post anything, I guessed that 50 was a good round number for Disney to want more essays.

Wonder if we'll ever know :confused3

I can't imagine that Disney wouldn't give them all they need for their comfort -- on Disney's dime. Wouldn't make sense otherwise. My guess is that they will each get a room, the dining plan, and hopper tickets. They might also give them access to some of the special events (like MVMCP, Hoop Dee Doo or La Nouba) since not everyone gets a chance to do those and they'll want the panel to be able to talk up those events.

DisneyPhD,

Thanks for the congrats and warm wishes. I'll try to answer your questions, but hopefully others will join to provide their perspectives (we need to do something to pass the time!!!)

Regarding DVC, I know for sure that there were second-round folks that own DVC, and clearly stated this in their first-round essays, so it wasn't a filter. I also understand that they did indeed read all 10,000 applications, so the DVC owners didn't get through by mistake.

I think trying to guess about what criteria they were using to select the panel is fun, but that is all. We'll likely never know exactly what the criteria were. I do a lot of interviewing for my firm, and our process is very rigorous, but in the end a good portion comes down to gut instinct, and it is never 100% perfect. You hire some mistakes, and you pass on some great candidates (as I am sure has happened to many on the DIS).

Regarding posts on DIS, I am more of a lurker on DIS, but am very active on tourguidemike.com. Over there I post frequently and share an Excel planning file that includes a one-page worksheet for itinerary planning, and separate one-page worksheets for park touring plans - filled with advice that I have picked up over the last few years from many sources (DIS, UG, passporter, TGM, etc.). I have been continually updating it for over a year, and have distributed it to thousands of TGM planners. So my point is that post counts (here, or at any forum) don't always correlate to expertise. I'll be the first to admit that most of my posts on DIS haven't contributed much at all to helping someone plan a trip to WDW.:lmao: (although I have helped several folks plan for DL - another place I love).

I have been kind of out of the loop for the past day or so, but I will try and answer some of your questions here.

I was probably one of those you had mentioned who had not done a lot of posting here. I am a member of another site as well, and on both of the sites, I try to post responses to people who might not have many (or any) responses to their questions. There are a lot of people on DIS, and other boards, who are great at giving responses and answers to all the questions, and some even just acknowledge a trip report or good question... and I think their doing that is great. But I am more likely to answer someone who might not get all the responses. Does that make sense? That is why my "count" might be lower.

Also...I am not sure about the DVC answer. I know one person who made it to the 2nd round mentioned they were DVC members, but I am not sure who that was or if they had made it to the 3rd round.

It is a lot of fun watching all this take place, and so amazing so many DISers have continued on following the progress of the ones making it to the 3rd round. Based on the responses of the panel during the phone interviews, like was mentioned before, some of the judges are here watching and it shows that DIS is respected not just by us, but by the Cast Members as well. That is pretty special.

So...on with our day of spooks, treats, and hopefully safe times tonight.

Wish I was experiencing it at MNSSHP!!!!:scared1:  :scared1: :sad2:

I'm a finalist and have had 600+ DVC points since early 2001 (I mentioned being a DVC member in my first round essay). WL is our home base, but we're now about 50/50 on staying at WL and BC while at WDW. We've also used our points at Vero, the Grand Californian, and on the Wonder.

I've lurked here a bit, but really until the contest I had no idea how big the boards were. I've gotten the allearsnet newsletter for several years. That's how I found out about the contest.

Happy Halloween to you all!

Hey all you wonderful supportive Disney fanatics?

Can we still wish upon a star that they will do this again in the near future?

I don't think anything is impossible at Disney! "Keep moving forward" (quote from Meet the Robinsons!) That is my motto!

My dh told me not to be so down and think positively that I will have another shot at this amazing, amazing opportunity!

You all are so deserving of this!

A previous quote from one of the posters " This is like winning the lottery!". I think this is better than winning the lottery for all of you! This is just incredible!

:laundy: Off to do more!

pirate: This is what I will be in a matter of hours for dd school party! Can't wait!

We are VWL owners too (just 175 points, mostly studio stays for us. :rolleyes1 ) I wish it was BCV, I love that place. We stay there when we can and have stayed at all DVC resorts in Florida (not HH yet.) We will be AKL in May 2008 and I am excited about that.

So good to hear some DVC members did make it. In my experience they seem to be "professional vacationers" if you know what I mean.

I never got an answer one way or another so my guess is my application never got all the way in the system (I think I did get the email after submitting it.) I guess I will never know. It is so interesting reading about the process though. Who knew there were so many super qualified people for the position? In my own little corner of the world DH and I are the only WDW over the top fanatics we know!

Thanks for the answer everyone. :thumbsup2

I'm in the 3rd round and we are DVC owners as well, though I didn't ever mention that. Not trying to avoid the issue, it just never came up (and those 100 words were so precious, it's hard to know what to filter). I'm guessing that the panel would know that though, since my name is not that common and it would be in their computer system. Hmmmm, now I'm worried. I wonder if I should have mentioned that in the phone interview? It never really came up.

I have been on disboards for a few years, but I have posted more on this particular thread than I did on any one subject before. I am a moderator for another online site so I am doing a LOT of posting, just not here. ;)

I am so silly over this whole thing - even my 4 year old is amused. I can't wait for the announcement, and I really hope that some of the great people posting here are selected. You've all been so nice and encouraging to everyone and it's great to see. :goodvibes:

Congratulations to everyone.

Thank you! The DISers who are posting here have certainly made the wait much more bearable. :grouphug:

Did any members here join Dis because of the panel contest, or where some more of lurkers before?

I've been a member since December 2004, and my activity level here (as well as on other online communities) varies depending on what else I have going on in my life.

Did anyone make it who owns DVC?

I think I read that at least one semi-finalist owns DVC, but I'm not positive. [Edited to add: Disregard, I see someone else posted before me that they were DVC owners. :) ]

Have a happy Halloween!

You, too! :)

Well guys, we can only Wonder what will happen next. I know we have lost a few posters since round 2 ended (we gained a few in their place), I just hope we don't loose anymore.
I will be anxiously waiting the final decision and will definitely be posting on Disney's site as well.
Hey, how many have kids who are dressing like Disney Characters tonight? I know I have 3. We usually go to Disney in Jan. and I will let my kidos have one dress up item. In the back of my head I am thinking this is what they will be for Halloween :-)

My DD 7 is dressing as Tinkerbell and my DS 10 is Captain Jack Sparrow! One of my favorite Disney costumes one of my kids ever did was a couple years ago my oldest DS was Sorcerer Mickey, using the Sorcerer Mickey hat from WDW, a big red robe type thing that was originally to a monster costume with a rope belt. I wanted to get the Mickey hands from WDW, too, but just getting the hat was expensive enough (had to call WDW shopping for it and have it shipped) plus I thought the hands would be hard to trick or treat with, so he just wore white gloves. He got many compliments and I've never seen another Sorcerer Mickey! :wizard:

I only have one little one (2 girls) dressing as Cinderella! My other is Hermione Granger from Harry Potter! Last year we were actually at MNSSHP! My little one was Minnie Mouse and my oldest was Kim Possible Cheerleader! I am wearing my Pirate outfit (that I actually wore to MNSSHP last Oct.) because I am doing the party at the school. MNSSHP was the best party ever! I would love to go back for that one, however my dream is being in Disney around Christmas! SOME DAY!

As for the lurker posting, I was a lurker until this contest started, I finally dove in and started posting. Now I am loving it!

*************

We are in countdown mode for Feb. 07 Disney trip! :cool1:

I have been lurking, cheering you all on, as I didn't make it to round 2. :sad2:

My kids are going to be, at last check, Goofy, Donald, Aurora, Winnie the Pooh, and a yet to be decided princess, either Snow White or Cinderella. Can you tell we have little girls and lots of dress up clothes? LOL

I got these really inexpensive masks on disneyshopping.com that are made out of craft foam, and only cover the top half of your face.
One set was Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy, and one set was Ariel, Aurora, Cindy, and Snow White.
My oldest two are going to be a nurse and a mad scientist. Guess they are getting too old for the Disney stuff.

Happy Halloween!
