Moms Panel Results!?

I thought mine was too, but at the same time, I know that while I might be
the Supreme Disney Information Queen in my little corner of the world here
(my family is SHOCKED I didn't get picked! ) I also know that there are SOOOOOO many people here and elsewhere that have the same love, passion and knowledge of Disney that I do, if not more, so yeah, I'm a little disappointed, but not shocked and I am really happy for those who got through, I'm sure each and every one deserved it.

I got selected to go on to the second round. I really don't think they read all 10,000 essays. My essay wasn't even that good. I just went online and typed in some stuff not really thinking much about it. I think they just randomly picked people to go to the second round. The next round I'm sure they will read all the essays and be more selective.

So let me get this straight..... There are 2 rejections e-mails?!?!

I know for sure that the 12 chosen people would receive a free trip for each panelist and 3 guests. I just was not sure weather it was at the time of training or a later date.

It was the week of the training, because the application said to make sure you have those dates free in case you win.

My guess is that you are very near the truth and no offense to anyone that advanced, but I really believe that most of the applications would be so simliar that with the limitations of the number of words you could use, how much could they really know about anyone.

Good luck with the next stage, I think it will be more difficult.

I can't imagine that it was completely random. They had to be looking for something in that first round of answers.

I know some people that received a "thanks, but no thanks" email today. This wasn't a delay because they didn't look at their email until today - the message was SENT today. So at least that confirms that they were still sending emails as late as today.

I got my rejection e-mail the other day. I was so upset that I deleted it immediately, so I never saw that it had an attachment of printable note paper. It did have that extra little blurb about being contacted in the future, but whatever.

I have 4 friends who post on the DIS all the time, and NONE of us made the cut to round 2. We have different family sizes, different age kids, one is a single mom, we live in all different regions of the country and not one of us made it. I find that odd.

The very same day I got the rejection (Wednesday) I also got the invitation for the Movie panel (or whatever they are calling it) and after doing the little intro questions I didn't qualify for that, either!

For what it's worth, I DO think being DVC owners hurt applicants in this contest. I also think being AP holders might be bad. I told DH that I think there is a certain threshold of "expertise" they wanted, and if you exceeded that they took you out of the running. I think there is a point where you get to know things that Disney doesn't necessarily want to promote, and they don't want those folks on their official panel.

If that is the case, I guess I will be ousted after the second round. I am pretty much the person you describe above. Hope that's not the case.

I just submitted my responses to the second round and it was not easy answering those questions in 100 words or less! The fingers are crossed!

I also received the rejection letter. It was pretty much expected, but at the same time I was a little disappointed. I believe that most of here at the DIS would make great subjects for this project. It's interesting because people in my community think I'm the Disney Queen. Yet, when I come here, I just fit in. I really hope that Disney took the time to read the essays, although some people have the gift of writing and others don't, and they still are very smart when it comes to Disney.

I do find it interesting that they selected men. While the mom in the family can mean many different things, I wonder how many of the men selected are actually playing the role of mom. In our household, my husband could not be considered the mom. He's the man. So, to have a mom's panel and have dad's on it is misleading. I don't think that dad's don't deserve to be heard, they just need a different title for the panel then.

Excellent post....I agree 100%. I talked about how much knowledge I had from all the trips I have taken. I wasn't trying to toot my own horn, but I thought they wanted someone with expertise. I consider myself an expert. With that said, after reading the submissions of some picked and some not...I didn't stand a chance. Those were some wonderful submissions!!!!!

Another disney site I post, not one person there was picked. It is a small board, but not ONE was picked....how odd.

While the rules said dads could enter, I don't think it was right. I WOULD NEVER enter a contest that was called " A dads whatever". I just wouldn't. To each their own I guess.

I have seen some really great DIS'ers with above average knowledge shut out of this thing and I think that Disney is doing their guest no great service by limiting the expertise level of the experts. Maybe, they want to keep it simple, but as far as I am concerned there is no official Disney site that will ever be able to keep it real. Disney's thumb is going to be squishing down pretty hard on the content of any message boards that they run and any articles that might be printed from the panelists.

I will take the DIS and WDWMagic over any official Disney site's content. At least you know that we have the ability to hear the good and the bad here.

I totally agree with you. I am considered the expert of all things Disney in my circle of friends and have had requests to plan others trips. I am a DVC member and now and AP holder and mentioned that in my app. I also mentioned that I am the mother of an autistic child, hoping it would differentiate me from everyone, knowing I have different issues to manage when conquering Disney.

As far as the men go....shame on you dads!!!!
I know I will get ALOT of hate mail for this. But I know I was content with my rejection until I read how several dads made the cut to the 2nd round. Now I'm Pissed!!! I know in this day & age you can't discriminate, and I know there are many, many dads out there who plan the trips for their families and know more than I do. I'm sure there are plenty of dads who would offer great vacation advice - I've gotten a bunch from bradk on this forum...But...IMHO I think Disney was trying to tap into the "Mom Market". They probably didn't realize that an interest existed with the dads. I think it was somewhat unfair of them to not automatically exclude the dads, because the contest rules stated they were looking for 12 MOMS. I question whether Disney, being a big corp. and wishing to avoid any bad press with people saying they are discriminating against dads, advanced some dads to cover their butts. But now, since they changed their rules, I think they need to change the name of the panel from moms panel to parents panel.
