Moms of girls! Princess dress in the parks.

DD4 announced the other day that she wants to wear a Princess dress into the MK. I know I should be gushing over the thought, but all I can think of is that she complains about them itching when she wears them in our temperature controlled house! Our trip is in mid-Sept - still pretty hot in FL!

I was thinking of sewing a costume and using more breathable, less itchy material. Has anyone done that? Are there actually Disney patterns? My DD can spot a generic princess costume a mile away! LOL

How do you manage the Princess dress thing in the parks? Do they actually keep them on for an amount of time that makes it worthwhile. I'm sure I'll have to bring a change of clothes. How do you pack away the costume for the rest of the day w/o wrinkling it beyond recognition?

There is an actual Disney pattern. I am making a Cinderella dress for dd8 to wear for b-fast at CRT. She's kinda big for her age and I couldn't find one big enough to fit her, but the pattern is avail. up to size 14. There is also a pattern for the dresses for American Girl sized dolls. I have to finish the dress tomorrow! It's my last day off before we leave! I have the bodice done and the skirt done, just need to put them together. I bought the pattern at walmart.

Cute? Yes. Practical? No.

I'd let her wear the princess dress for a short time in the park (if you're going to Cinderella's breakfast, that'd be perfect; if not, perhaps you could wear it to hear Belle tell her story in the Rose Garden). Then get her a princess tee-shirt or sweatshirt to wear for the rest of the day.

If at all possible, I'd try and talk your DD into wearing a princess t-shirt. She'll be so much more comfortable and it will be less stuff for you to drag around the park.

I've made them out of high-count sateen sheets; it looks like satin to a kid, but it is cotton and comfortable, and can be washed. I buy the sheets at Tuesday Morning; they are low-priced there.

My 5 year old dd wore her dress for the Cinderella breakfast and then changed. I have found the Disney Store princess dress to do pretty well when washed gently. We had her Sleeping Beauty one for 3 years ( I used fabric glue to hem it up for the first year or so and then washed it out).

For our Sept. 2003 trip, my DD3 wanted to dress as Cinderella. Your DD may not go for this, but I searched until I found what I thought would be princessy and practical at the same time. The "dress" we used was actually a Cinderella nightgown I bought at Kohl's. It was short sleeved, the length was about mid-calf and was really cute. No, it wasn't an "official" princess dress, but it was a lot more comfortable and DD wore it the entire day. She didn't get hot or itchy. Her shoes - I bought some Keds-type and glamour-ized them with silver spray glitter, fabric paint and shoe laces. She wore white bobby socks trimmed in silver. Her hair was in a bun and she was beautiful (I apologize for being so modest! )!

I let them wear it to the breakfast, but wear a short outfit or sundress under it. By the time they've walked to the castle and have eaten breakfast they are ready to take it off.

OK- I've never heard of this! Where and when does Belle tell the story? This is why it's so important to stay on the boards even when you think you know everything there is to know about WDW!

That's a great idea! I have a brand new Cinderella nightgown in her size that she has not seen yet! I'll run the idea past her and see if it flys.

I think you should buy the dress have your child try it on and wear it for a day and have her see how it feels and if she complains that its too itchy then take it back! Also when you go in line and a cast member sees her they will say Hello Princess! and might make an annoucement!At least thats what they did for my niece Erin. Pack some extra warm weather clothes in a bag and if she gets too hot have her put them on.

My dd3 sleeps in a princess dress! Grandma got her several at a thrift store, one is a sleeping beauty dress, the others look like dance recital costumes and she LOVES being the princess. Can't wait to take her to the park for her 4th birthday!

Would she go for Jasmine-looks more comfy? I had my DD wear that one to Storybook Breakfast (it fit in a quart size ziplock bag). She wore it for a few hours after the meal but did eventually change into shorts and T. I would also go for "practical" shoes.

OMG! I LOVE the Snow White costume in Simplicity patterns! I'll bet I could meak that out of some light weight cotton material!
I was thinking the same thing about the Jasmine costume but I doubt DD would go for it. She loves the long gown-type dresses.
