My mom had back surgery on Friday...I took off work to be at the hospital with her during/after surgery. I left and picked DS up from school, stopped at the florists so he could pick out some flowers for her. The minute we got to her room DS started sneezing. I thought it was just an alergy to the flowers he picked...the nurse said something about it because he sneezed a few times when she was in the room. Reminding me he shouldn't be there if he's sick (he was fine until we got there...) It turned into a full blown cold Friday night. I talked to my mom yesterday and we decided that we wouldn't visit due to DS....He's just stuffy now, never developed a fever or anything. Should we go back to the hospital??? I feel terrible because I'm not there with her, but I don't want to get anyone sick of course. How long should I keep DS away??? My step dad is there with her, but I'm an only child, so I feel like I should be with her....I don't have anyone available to babysit for me today either....

Can't answer the visiting your mother question. Just wanted to let you know that I hope your mother and son feel better soon.

Not sure with any recommendations, Jaimee, but sure hope mom feels better soon. Isaiah too.

I may be sensitive because my DD was just in the Hospital, but we wanted everyone away from her that was sick because your body is so vulnerable as you try to recover from surgery, so we did not allow her favorite person, her cousin to come because she had a cold. Just looking at a very sick five year old, we did not risk it, even though she was crying for her cousin. We just let them talk on the phone. We were probably overreacting . Your mom is an adult and can understand at least, and she can probably let you know how she feels. I would not worry too much about the other patients because you probably will not interact with others very much if you run up there to visit.

Sorry about your Mom and Isaiah Jaimee. I hope they're both feeling better soon. How about if your step dad watches Isaiah for a while?
