Moms, I need your advice!

I agree with the previous poster that trying to conceive on the trip would be fun!

We did a vacation last year while 13 weeks pregnant. We had some problems after a hot day walking around Monticello in Virginia. We were a long way away from home and the worries set in. We ended up putting my feet up and cranking on the air in the van. Just couldn't take the heat or move quite as quickly. Everything turned out ok. Also the 28 hours round trip in the car was murder. Lots of leg aches.

Best of luck to you!!!!

You can never know how your body will react - morning sickness, swelling, heat, hunger, fatigue...or you could feel great!

My advice, plan your WDW vacation (I always regret not going with hubby before kids). The baby will happen when it happens. If that coincides with your trip, then you adapt and modify as needed. If you find you can't go for too long without a rest, hit the shows, or only do half days in the park. Think of it as good practice for
life-with-a-newborn! Plus, imagine all the cute souvenirs for the baby you can shop for.

As for E-Tickets, I would go on during the first month, or maybe two if I felt ok, but not after that, and definitely not if I were showing in any way. Besides, E-Tickets are only a small part of the WDW experience!

Best wishes for your future plans! :flower:

Not to put a damper on things, but I too was VERY sick for the first 17 weeks of BOTH of my pregnancies (2 girls). I was hospitalized twice with each of them for dehydration. I love kids but we have chosen not to have any more due to the fact that I am so sick! I would be careful planning anything b/c of that and I personally would NOT ride any rides that have a preg warning. I went to WDW when I was 5 1/2 months preg with my first and I stayed off all rides that had preg warnings. Good luck to you. I wouldn't trade my 2DD's for anything in this world. We are taking our first trip together as a family in December. You'll have many more of them to come!!!

God Bless.

I haven't read everyone's reply (shh - I'm at work!) but I was about 6-8 weeks pregnant the last time I was at WDW (March 2001!). I was lucky enough to never have morning sickness :duck: , but I was exhausted by the afternoon. My poor DH (and that was his first trip!) had to put up with me being in bed by 8 every night.

Also, if you like the water parks I don't think it's recommended that pregnant women go down the water slides. I also was maybe a bit more cautious on the rides than I normally am (avoided most with the pregnancy warning).

Hope it all works out for you!

The one thing you can take from most of the posters is that pregnancy will make your body start to change! Body parts ache that never ached before, your stamina will decrease, the smells of things may gross you out. For me personally, I froze the first three months, go figure. Of course, the second and third trimesters I was a space heater.

But, how wonderful to take a trip with your baby without having to worry about the stroller/diapers/nap/etc! Enjoy the time with your dh and best of luck!

It's just my opinion but I wouldn't ride anything that you couldn't put a very small child on while pregnant. I have been while early in pregnancy and I avoided anything that my then 2 and 4 year old couldn't go on. It would be best to seek the advice of your doctor in any case.

Lastly, morning sickness might really put a damper on your trip. :earboy2:

If it's your last "hurrah", I wouldn't go newly pregnant. Just my .02. :earsgirl:

Try to get pregnant while your there. I have had 4 pregnancies, one ending in a miscarriage and 3 carried almost to term. I was sick from conception through delivery with all, and spent many days getting IV rehydration due to the nasea. It took much longer to get pregnant with my first (over a year). I can't imagine dealing with the crowds, heat and being sick. You may react differently to pregnancy and I certainly hope that you have easy, enjoyable pregancies. That being said, 1 in 3 pregancies end in a miscarriage (so I was told by my doctor after my miscarriage) and after a miscarriage you find yourself wondering what you did to cause it. In most cases the mother did nothing wrong, It was just natures way of telling you that something was wrong. My point is if the worst happens for you you wouldn't want to wonder if you did something to cause it. Play it safe. I hope this didn't come out the wrong way, I just wanted to explore all possibilities.

DH and I would like to start a family next year. Our initial plan was to take one last big trip somewhere, like London or Paris, in early summer and then focus on starting a family. However, now we both decided that travelling abroad doesn't interest us like it used to and we would like to spend one last big hurrah at WDW before embarking on parenthood. I'm travelling to DC with a student group from the school at which I teach in mid-June and don't want to hit WDW in late June, as we've been there, done that and been rained heavily upon! So we're looking at early July for a week.

My question??? IDEALLY, if all goes well, :wizard: I hope to be anywhere UP TO one month pregnant at the time of our trip. Obviously, everyone reacts differently to pregnancy, but I just wanted to know if I can still go on the bigger rides, RnRC most of all, Space Mt., Splash, and BTMRR. If the consensus is no, then we'd try later and go earlier accordingly! Also, if there is any other advice you have for this lady who is trying to plan a trip and a family around the same time, be my guest and share! :rotfl:

Thanks, Moms!

I have not read all the posts so some of this is probably a repeat...

You need to talk to your OB and discuss all the pros and cons, IF you are pregnant. Disney says no. Of course, there is no way for them to know when you are "just" pregnant. The AMA (American Medical Association) says no as a precaution. The reasons for no is there is a possible risk (at any point in pregnancy) of miscarriage/premature delivery (and 80% of misscarriages do happen in the first trimester anyhow--regardless of actions), brain/organ damage, and seperation of placenta. You need to weight the risks and decide if it is worth it. I wouldn't. The rides will be there next time, and it's really not that much you miss. And, yes, I've been to WDW pregnant (and had a great time).

You might not even be pregnant. I got pregnant the first time, the first time without birth control. The second time it took two years of trying, even with "help" after the one year mark. The third time, birth control just failed--DS#3 was planned for a year later. For baby #4 were going to start at the soonest age difference we think we want, but are prepared for a much larger gap.

If you ARE pregnant when you go, you might have morning sickness that can be aggrevaited by bigger rides. Or nothing at all. I threw up every 45 minutes like clockwork for 5 months and every 3 hours from 5m to the day DS#1 was born with my first. I threw up every few hours and was constantly nausious with DS#2 for 5 1/2 months. And with DS#3, I was just sick (no throwing up) for the whole 9 months without any reprieve. Of course, you might not have any morning sickness at all. And boy, with all three I was soooooo exteremly tired that first trimester I could hardly function, and third trimester also with DS#3.

Maybe you might want to just hold off an extra month before starting???

I would suggest doing what feels right to you. When I became pregnant I had no idea... I had no morning sickness or sickness at all, I was not tired until the thrid trimester and I did not have any food adversions or cravings for that matter. I guess I was a luck one.

As far as riding the rides I would take your doctors advice... IMHO I would not ride anything that is extreme like RnR, Tower of Terror, Mission Space and such.. the good thing about Disney is that there is so much to do for everyone.

Good luck with bith plannings pirate:

In 1989, DH and I went in December between Christmas and New Years. I love roller coasters and thrill rides, so we rode them and had a blast! On New Year's Day, we drove back home. I was feeling really crummy. And it didn't go away. A couple weeks later, I discovered I was pregnant. DS is now 15!

So, to answer your question, I don't think that up to one month pregnant will be cause to not ride the rides. I can't imagine I'm the only one who was pregnant (but didn't know) that still rode the rides. But, since you are expecting to be pregnant, you may want to ask your doctor.

I would do the trip first (and be off the pill for at least a month for it to run out of your system) before getting pregnate. ANY ODD smell and I turned green, not to mentain wanting to sleep 23 hours a day. I had some problems with miscarriages so I am overly careful but I would avoid anything that drops, bumps, shakes, etc. Plus if I am spending big bucks on WDW and dinners I would want to be sure I enjoy them. NO one wants to do WDW feeling yucky. Have it for a last fling before the streching, not sleeping, sickness, ugh sets in.

I've been to disney pregnant twice...(Out of 5 pregnancies total) In my opinion the ideal situation is to go BEFORE you get pregnant, but my second choice would be 3-6 months. In the first trimester, you are not only likely to be sick, but miscarriage risk is much higher. At 3-6 months, you won't be too big, and you'll feel much better. Most rides at disney are pretty mild.

I was green with morning sickness ALL THE TIME with my 1st pregnancy. It started the 1st week. I thought I was sick...Turns out it just kept going all the way through. Anyway, I lost 20 lbs the 1st trimester...normally thats good, but when your having a baby - not so good. Short version...1st pregnancy is a ? and some people are fine...but many people have the most problems during their 1st pregancy. That will tell you whether you can go, go on a roller coaster, or what. I would have been green. Plus you will be REALLY tired during the 1st triemester. Go before and have tons of fun is my vote...
