Moms - how do you wear your hair to the parks?

So, last year, my hair was long, I wore pony tails to the parks. Now my hair is short, takes more drying time, need to flip the bottom up, has layers, etc. Its getting to the point where I either need to cut again, or let it grow out. Our trip is in about 3 months. Any advice? What should I do? I hate to have to mess w/it much while at the parks.

I leave on Sept. 6 for my DS 4th Birthday and I tend to have short hair, however, I have been growing it out for a few months so that I can pull it back in the parks. I'm with you...I do not want to have to mess with my hair on vacation. Once I return, I will go the salon and chop some off.

It just made me smile that others think about that also

wash and go. Thats the way to go. Take a little mousse with you (check it in the suitcase!) and scrunch it if you want a bit of style. Visors and baseball hats are great too.

How do I wear my hair, that gave me a chuckle too, I don't!! :rotfl: My hair becomes this out of control frizzball. Most likely when I go at the end of this month it will be in ballcaps (I have long hair/layers/flip style too). I have a bit of a wave to it so the humidity just kills it. A straightening iron won't work either. So some sleek/smoothing serum to start the day with the knowledge that a hat will end the day. But I'm at Disney World so how cares!!!! :sunny:

I typically wear a hat due to sun bothering my eyes. I wear it in a low ponytail that I pull through the hole in the back of the cap. I can then take it off for rides that are needed, and it's not tooo bad.

Not sure where the concept of having a child and the mom having to cut her hair to make it EASIER came from. But I know many women who have done just that. A pony tail is a gazillion times easier than blowdrying and curling hair for a decent short style. (sorry, but I don't consider 3/4 - 1 1/2 inch hair laying flat on your head a 'style' - but that's just me...)

If your hair grows fast enough and you're not adverse to it, I'd grow it out for the next 3 months. You can always go short again after the trip if you want. ;)

ETA -Honestly, I don't mean the short hair comment as an insult. I just don't care for the very short hair on women. That said, I don't think a ponytail is necessarily stylish either, but it sure is easy and cool. But with long hair, I do have an option of how to style it. With short short hair you have almost no choice.

I grew mine out and glad I did. I will be wearing my little pony tails this coming week

Personally I can not stand wearing baseball hats, it is too hot out. Visors are nice but then they get sweaty by the forehead too.

If I do wear my hair down (it is right above my shoulders) I always do a headband to keep it off my face or I use my sunglasses to keep it off my face when I am not in the blazing sun. I don't remember last 2hrs without it going in a ponytail though!!

I have shoulder lenght hair, also with the layers and the flippy or not flippy style (flat iron ha!) but I just have a slight natural curl, so I can just wash and put some and let it dry... but if I have a little more time, I can put the iron to it and it only takes a few more minutes... depends how I feel... last time I was there, I got a very light perm and It was wash and go... I should go back to that, very easy.

I remember a lice post about a year ago, and it said that lice from seats, etc., is more likely to get in your head if you wear your hair down than if you have it braided or fastened in some way.

I have no idea if it is accurate or not, but definetly dd and I will be braiding our hair.

I will be wearing my hair in a pony tail too. Last trip I bought a visor and wore that most of the time to.

side pigtales

My kid in my back carrier is less likly to tug on my hair when its that way, I tail in the back and I am nothing but a pony

Usually a pony tail, I have long hair. I wash it in the morning, brush it out and it's dry normally within an hour of entering the park, then it goes up.

Considering that my current salon is the bathroom sink where I whack off my bangs when they get to long (no time for anything else), I've been a pony tail wearer the last couple of times I went. However, when I look at pictures, I wish I had done something a little more with it (or at least had someone else wack off the bangs)

I have long wavy hair (about bra length) and it has a few layers. I shower and blow dry (about 5 minutes) each day. Just a bit of spray and off I go. I do carry a barrette so if it gets hot I can twist it in an updo.

My DH loves my hair long and I love to put it up and look dressy or casual.

I think long hair is more flexible. I had short hair for a bit about 10 years ago, and I thought the upkeep took longer than having long hair. Also, I'm not one of those who can dunk and go. I'm a bit to prissy for that.

I have short hair which is wavy, probably downright curly in the Florida humidity. When I don't want to "do" my hair, I usually use a few little clippies (teeny little claw grip things, meant for little girls) and pull sections back, off of my face. The effect is like wearing a headband, but it is sort of cute (IMHO) and the clippies can be colorful, sparkly or just plain brown to match my outfit and mood. The curls then run wild, but they are meant to!
