Moms (and Dads) of little ones

I always keep a bird book, tree book and binoculars in the camper. I usually spend one day at FW identifying all the trees around our campsite and the birds I see. Early morning is especially good for birds, especially owls and eagles.

I'd love to have a really good quality camera to take pictures of the birds 'hiding' up in the trees. The last time we were there, several beautifully colored birds visited our picnic table as I cooked. We didn't have our digital camera nearby so took the pictures of them on my cell phone. Now, if I want a little taste of FW it's only a cell phone away. (My kids also took the phone around and got random shots of things near our campsite, nice way to pass the time when you're stuck in line behind a goober).

I'll definitely put one of our bird books on my list for our next trip.

And what happened to all the vultures that used to live in the trees out by the 2000 loop? I haven't seen them in a long time.

They moved over to AK. When we were on Kilamanjaro Safari they were all over the place. Made me more than a little nervous.

I knew they put two in Splash Mt., didn't know about the AK relocation. Maybe they followed the peacocks over there? 2 for 1 sale from FW.

If you're catching lizards with a net, it really helps to slow them down if you beat the heck out them with the net before trying to scoop them up. kids LOVE limp lizards! Adult women, however, do not especially care for limp lizards.

Maaaan....that was soooo wrong, on soooo many levels!!!!

I have tears in my eyes after reading this one!!! You are one sick puppy!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

This is for real..... at one time the vultures were hanging out on the balconies at the Contemp Resort. Vultures have a natural defense mechanism of regurtitating & spitting when frightened. They did this whenever guests would open the curtains to their balconies. Imagine the shock on both sides of the window's (not to mention a few ruined shorts!)!

Disney was actually fined by the State of Florida for shooting at and poisoning the vultures! I don't know how they ended up getting rid of them. :confused3

OMG. There's no way I can respond to this without getting LOTs of points. So I won't.

The nutria scared them away.

My boys are 6 & 3 and the baby will be 6 months by the time we camp at FtW(March). I have a trailer though rather than tents but we've been doing it for several years. My additions to the already excellent suggestions would be:
a) flashlight - get the wind-up or shake-up kind so you don't pack 100s of batteries when they leave them on all night.
b) toy storage - try a collapsible laundy hamper like this from Walmart http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5606744
c) love glow necklaces (try the Dollar store) esp. if there is no ambient light.
d) have a designated toy/actvity for first thing in the morning (like colouring) so you can catch a few more zzzs! Dollar Tree often has Disney themed books and crayons etc.
e) think toys that can be easily washed / cleaned up so if they get mucky from outside play, its no big deal. My boys are heavily encouraged to bring their Rescue Heroes when camping! Also nothing with lots of parts because I guarantee they will get lost in the grass !
f) their own chairs - my kids love to steal my adult-sized folding chair so we've just bought them their own.

We go TV free when camping, but we will have our DVD players with us this time becuse of the long drive.

Have fun!

This suggestion depends on the age of your kids. If they are real young don't forget the bathing facilities are showers. When mine were little we would take one of the small inflatable baby pools so they could sit in it while I bathed them. They make one that is really little and will fit in the stall at the campground.

First of all, are you sure those are nutria? They may be otters.

Next, that is a great tip about the baby pool in the shower. I have bathed a baby or 2 in the sink in the bathhouse. If you have a sink sized kiddo, bring a stopper for the sink. The motion activated faucets have made this more difficult though. I also use the handicap stall when I have the youngest one. She can stand on the seat and not have her face at an "uncomfortable" level. I also don't have to bend over to wash her.

We use a collapsible hamper for our laundry, never thought about it for toys, great idea.

As for where the dorm stuff is in WM, I looked the other day and could not find it. It must be gone. Check the clearance aisle. Also check by the kids bedroom stuff or where the collapsible hampers are. The store on post had the collapsible totes on clearance not too long ago, if I can I will stop by and see if they have any and pick a couple up for you. How many do you need? They were only a buck or 2. Just let me know.

Keep the ideas coming, this is a great thread and staying fairly close to the topic too!!

We do books on CD in the car. We did The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe on our last trip. Our library loans for 3 weeks at a time. With smaller ones maybe you could do some Disney books on CD.

We have 2 boys DS6 & DS1.

Actually, we bring very little toys when we travel to FW (by plane or RV). We do get something small for each son every day we are at FW and each travel day also. This is part of the fun of vacaton for us.

DS6- always brings an activity book (w/colors, pens etc), a reading book and his Nintendo DS.

DS1- he doesn't need toys really. Heck, his favorite toy at home is the I-Robot vacuum :lmao:

They can always watch a DVD in the RV or on my lap-top if flying or pulling a TT. This helps at times.....especially w/DS1.

The most important thing the boys need it seems to us, is their pillow and blanket from home. I can lay them down anywhere provided we have these.

The rest we buy at FW, WDW in general or offsite. It is more spendy this way, but we like the convenience and flexibility..... sometimes they just HAVE to have that little trinket or bauble after all. ;)
