Hello! We gave my son a choice for his 7th birthday next month to either have a friend party, or go to Disneyland for the day with only me. He has picked DL! We are both super excited, and I am very much excited to get some alone time with him. But I am struggling with the guilt of not taking my DS5. :guilty:

I know a lot of others do mommy and me or daddy and me trips...how do handle the child who isn't going? I want to present it as a special trip for 7 year old birthdays and that DS5 can do the same when he turns 7? Like a right of passage? I just don't want him to be really hurt about it. DH said he will take DS5 and do something fun with him while we are gone. Looking for advice and suggestions! TIA

just the same way that you birthday child will get a special day/ present and the other child doesn't get gifts on that day.. so too is this day..

you say you will give the 5 yr old the same deal when he turns 7 so be it..

I realize its hard for them to understand.. but if its going to make you feel too guilty then don't do it..

Personally I would go with the new 7 yr old and just allow dad to do his thing as you have stated with Mr 5 ..

That's true nikkislaght, I need to think of it like that. In terms of a gift...and DS5 would not expect to get a gift on DS7's birthday.
