Mommies MORE advice PLEASE!!!(sleep ?)

Don't worry about it, you are doing a good job! And when you get to this stage you are willing to try anything! Just do what you feel is right and don't worry about what others think. He will sleep again! I know, after 2 weeks Sam is sleeping through the night again!

Colleen, I didn't give him the pediacare yet becasue my ped just told me that this morning when I called again. I just got home from buying it-should I try triaminic instead? I think I remember A.J. getting wired from it now that you mention it. Anthony thought I should try Benedryl but ped. said pediacare. I have to go back out in a few minutes so maybe I should just bring this back and get something else. Maybe I will ask the pharmacist.

{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} Kim.

Hang in there. You aren't being a bad mommy. Sometimes we have to do what we feel is right and not what all the books are telling us to do. I hope Matty is feeling better.

Keep in mind that benedryl can have either the 'sleepy' effect on a child or it could 'wire' them as well. It would knock Kirk and Jeana out for the count. Jessie is able to tolerate it very well. In fact, that is what she uses for seasonal allergies. The pediatrican said it is one of the best allergy medicines on the market IF you child does react to it like most do. She took Zyrtec, Claritin, Flonase...nothing offered her relief. The benedryl works like a charm.

Personally, I would try the triaminic before the benedryl. Check the bottle for what symptoms he has then get the most appropriate one. ::yes::

Thanks! On my way now!!

Cindy-Good to see you here on the Dis!!!

antkim,

I just wanted to post again because I felt really badly for you when I came back after posting the 1st time. I hope your DS is doing better and you're able to get some sleep. I know what it's like to 2nd guess decisions when it comes to your child. Just do what you think is best and it will all work out in the end. Take care.

Thanks CEDmom,
I was feeling pretty bad this morning but at least I know what I have to do tonight if it happens again! Of course I don't want to put him down today because I am feeling so guilty! LOL I'll remember never to go on the internet to get answers in the middle of the night again!! I was going to post here around 1:00 a.m. but figured most of you would have been fast asleep! LOL

Kim

I've read that about not picking them up and just patting them on the back, too. Sometimes that worked, but not always.

 A bad mom is one that doesn't worry about their child. You're definately NOT a bad mom.

You are not a bad mommy. If you use Triaminic try to find the clear one with no dyes in it...some kids are very allergic to the red and yellow dyes. My DD used to get ear infections at the drop of the hat and was such a bad sleeper during them. She used to sleep with me sitting up when she was little. I have also elevated the mattress of their cribs when they were little. Put a bed pillow UNDER the mattress.

Now I'll tell you my bad Mommy story and hope it makes you feel better...because I still feel guilty about it now. (10 years later)

Catie and Amanda were goofing around upstairs..Catie was 4 and Amanda was 5. I was upstairs and ecided to "scare" them into thinking I was going to chase them. They ran for the stairs..Amanda feel and pushed Catie down the first landing of our stairs (4 steps) and laded on top of her. Caties arms were outstretched. Catie has always been a little whiny so she was complaining about her neck and shoulder hurting. My DH was holding her and comforting her for about 1/2 hour and I finally said..."oh just let her alone now...It's not like she fell off the roof or something it was only 4 stairs." About a half hour later she told me her neck still hurt..so I rubbed my fingers over the area that she said hurt..and felt a big bump in the bone. At this time I tell DH I'm taking her to the hospital and he said (very sarcastically) "why it's not like she fell off the roof!"

Well they xray her and turns out she broke her collar bone...I felt like a piece of crap for not reacting better to her fall. The guilt was so unbearable that day. I almost felt like a child abuser because it took me almost 2 hours to get her some help. That said ..Catie is totally adjusted..she is still a whiner and she still breaks bones (usually fingers) on a regular basis thanks to playing sports.

I As for YOU ever sleeping through the night again, hang it up sister. Those days are over. :p

Isn't that the truth!

You aren't a bad mommy!!! I was in your shoes 6 months ago with my dd. But my heart told me to hold her and our pediatrician confirmed that. Every day is a new learning experience in the world of parenthood. It is the most difficult job there is but also the most rewarding. :D Hang in there!!! Now if both parents work and you need your sleep, take shifts with your DH or SO. That is what DH and I do. I will sleep from 8pm-1am and he will sleep 1am-6am so we each get at least 5 hours when dd is sick and crying.

Nancy, I was just talking to a parent at ds's school telling her my story and she told me a story similar to yours! Sprained ankle for 3 days without knowing because the son was always whining about the slightest things!!! So I guess we are not alone!LOL Thanks for trying to make me feel better and know that YOU are not alone!!

Disneylvr, unfortunately the days of us taking "shifts" are over for now. DH just started working 11p-7a so I'm on my own!! I did lie down for about an hour when he got home this morning though before he went to bed. He said to sleep as long as I wanted but I had the little boy I watch coming over today so the "nap" was short lived!! Sleep in over rated anyways! LOL

Hopefully tonight will be different but if not you know where I will be-right with my little guy! Anyone going to be up in case I can't get back to sleep? LOL

Kim
