Mom & Son eat the World! 11 days of DDP with tons of pics! Now Complete!

Quote: "Just what is it about those eggs?" I think there is a little cheese in them.

We were there at Pop Aug. 24-31st. Is that the same time you were there? I noticed you were from Upstate New York? Whereabouts? We are from Watervliet, 10 minutes from Albany.

I do have a question? Can you get the potatoes at Ohanas without the onions and scallions, in otherwords just plain old potatoes? TIA

I grew up in Ballston Lake ... we currently live in Rhinebeck, about an hour south of Albany.

Yes, we were at POP from 8/23 thru 9/2. We were in bldg 6, facing the lake.

I'm from Mechanicville! I enjoyed reading your reviews. We are staying at POP 11/6 thru 11/12. :thumbsup2

Is that the 60's? We loved the 60's when we went in 2006 we were facing the lake too. It was very nice.
This year we were in the 50's with a parking lot view but we had been taken to the wrong adjoining rooms facing the pool in the 50's. It was supposed to be 2 rooms with 2 beds each but one room was with a king size bed and handicapped accessible shower/bathroom. Well my 3 kids were looking forward to their own beds. We had called and requested the 60's lake view just past the elevators but didn't get it. The CM said all of the 60's was preferred. Not according to the website, anything past the elevators isn't preferred which is what we wanted. Well after waiting for someone to come up to the first rooms they gave us to give us all new cards (room keys) so we could move everything over to the building behind the big jukebox, we didn't feel like complaining and moving anymore. The view wasn't great but we could get down to the parking lot where our van was parked easily. It was a little hike to the main lobby and food court but oh well.

Pop's foodcourt is great. Unfortunately the frozen blue drink was usually down to refreeze. I guess it is real popular with the kids, I know it is with mine. :goodvibes

Thank you ... enjoy your trip! We really loved POP ... trying to figure out when we can go back!

We were in the 70's ... the building with the Mickey Phone. I loved it! No noise from the pool and really not a bad walk to the main building. The lake view was just a little bonus. I would definitely request this location again!

It's funny, I wasn't sure what you meant when I read this because the potatos were just plain old potatoes. I see the allears menu mentions onions and scallions. We didn't have that with ours. Although I would have probably liked them that way!

Great reviews. I am really looking forward to your Jiko review and glad you liked Cali Grill since we are attempting that for the first time next month.

Yeah, when we get the potatoes they are always plain old potatoes. :confused3 I would like them with onions better too! :rotfl:

The balls that you sucked through the straw are tapioca balls, also called "pearls". Yes, like the kinda that are in tapioca pudding, these are just bigger, purplish and yummy. Bubble tea was popular in china and now it is a craze in the states, mostly in large cities and by colleges. It is addictive if you can get over the wierd texture of the "pearls".
I had a bubble tea smoothie once, since I had heard about the pearls on here once. (I believe this used to be sold in China at Epcot, but not anymore.) I didn't really care for it at all.

Where did you get the Stick Figure Shirt that your son is wearing? That is great and we are heading down in October and I would love to get family shirts made up like that.
30 days til 7 nights at OKW!!

Great review! All the food you had looks so good, it's making me hungry!! popcorn::
And your son is cute, the picture with him and the salad made me giggle. It looks like you two had a great trip! :)

I'm sooo glad you mentioned Le Cellier! Want to book for our trip and heard from friends food is great but going with 12 people (7kids) wondering if a good place for kids?

On to day 2 ... and the official start to free, upgraded deluxe dining! I will still quote the prices just for reference.

First up was breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the food here. We both enjoyed our breakfast but nothing is really standing out in my memory. Here is a pic of the Mad Hatter with DS:

img_0606-1.jpg

Cost would have been $40.45.

Next up was lunch at the Plaza -

img_0652.jpg

img_0653.jpg

First we shared the soup of the day ... Tomato Bisque

img_0654.jpg

DS had: Grilled Chicken Sandwich - grilled chicken breast topped with shaved ham and swiss cheese served on a flour-dusted Kaiser.

I had spent months pouring over menus and knew I was getting the steak sandwich here. Sat down, looked at the menu and ordered the:

Vegetarian Sandwich - fresh mozzarella, hummus, basil pesto, cucumber, roasted red pepper, vine-ripened tomato, and lettuce on a freshly baked foccaccia bread. I had the broccoli slaw instead of the sweet potato chips

img_0655.jpg

And I am so glad I did! It was refreshing, light and very tasty. DS loved his chicken sandwich as well. We had never been to the Plaza before and were very pleased with our food. Not so much the service. Our waitress just wasn't very friendly.

I didn't have dessert but DS had a Diet Coke Float (yeah, ok ... I know what's the point of diet soda with ice cream? He just prefers it)

img_0657.jpg

Total with 2 iced teas to drink - $36.47

Hi, I absolutely love your report with pictures. We are going next week, and I can't wait to eat yummy meals. I haven't been able to get an ADR for Le Cellier. But I have been trying, and will continue to try.

I'm confused by your above post. You said "free upgraded deluxe dining." How did you get the free upgrade?

Check out the Creative DISigns Board here on the Dis. I think there are several DISigners now making the Stick Figure family shorts. Just ask for the customized design that you want & use an iron-on transfer to put it on a shirt. If I can do it, anyone can!

We had such a fantastic trip. I cannot even put it into words.

I think it is fine for kids. There have always been kids there when we have been there (it is Disney). And the restaurant is fairly loud.

Good Luck with Le Cellier! When Disney offered free dining, I booked the promotion but then paid the difference ($32 per person per day) to upgrade to the deluxe plan rather than just having the regular plan for free.

I have added the pricing info to my last reviews. Here are the pics from the top of the Contemporary ...

Just a wonderful place to watch Wishes!

Day 9 started with Breakfast at Kona

DS just had to have the Tonga Toast - banana stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar and served with Strawberry Compote and your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage

img_1516-1.jpg

And because I wanted to try a bit of everything, I got the Big Kahuna - French toast, Macadamia-Pineapple pancakes, eggs, home fried potatoes, ham, bacon, and sausage

img_1515-1.jpg

We both really enjoyed our breakfast here. I have to admit though that the Tonga Toast is a bit sweet for me. The 2 or 3 bites that I had were enough.

Total cost with two cups of hot tea - $34.02

We didn't really have lunch today with the big breakfast and planned early dinner. We spent the day in the MK so throughout the day we had

Casey's Corn Dogs

img_1575.jpg

Total cost OOP - $3.83

Dole Whip (pineapple & vanilla swirl)

img_1579.jpg

Used a snack credit - cost would be $3.07

Chocolate MilkShake from Mrs. Potts

img_1546.jpg

Again, used a snack credit -cost would be $3.93

We also found unsweetened iced tea at the Fry Shoppe and cursed ourselves for avoiding the McD places all these years. As you can tell we are big iced tea drinkers. We are Pepsi people so the Coke products just don't work for us (except in Club Cool!) No pics of those and again we used snack credits but the cost for two very large cups was $5.10

EDITED - I wanted to edit this to add that the scrambled eggs at Kona were not even close to the ones at Ohana. They were almost watery. Not sure if this is the norm or if I got a bad batch.

Oh, ok, I thought you got the deluxe dining plan for free. Like, maybe you had gotten it as part of the Year of a Million Dreams promotion or something. That would be awesome!

I loved your reviews. I may see if Spoodles is available. I have to go back and read your reviews again. Le Chefs De France looked good too.....mmmmmm, Disney FOOD!!!!

:cool1:  :dance3:

Originally we were to eat dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern, a tradition for all previous trips. But we ended up being able to share a Wishes Cruise with some wonderful Disers and our reservation was too late. By the time I knew this, I couldn't get anything else at Liberty Tree so I cancelled and nervously booked an earlier dinner at The Wave. Right up until we sat down we debated cancelling this dinner and just grabbing CS. Boy am I glad we didn't! Turned out to be one of our top 4 meals of the trip!

Our reservation was a 5:50 and the restaurant was nearly empty when we got there

img_1587.jpg

It is truly lovely inside and was full when we left

The bread was probably the best we had all week. Butter was topped with some kind of sea salt ... yummy!

img_1588.jpg

We both started with the soup of the day which was Potato Leek. It was served with a mini brie grilled cheese

img_1590.jpg

This was the BEST soup of our trip (sorry to the Le Cellier Cheddar Cheese Soup lovers out there!).

For dinner, DS got the Braised Lamb Shank - with bulgur wheat-lentil stew and red wine sauce

img_1591.jpg

He enjoyed both the lamb and the stew that came with it. I didn't try the lamb but also enjoyed the stew.

I had the Grilled Marinated Flank Steak - with seasonal vegetables, chimichurri and guacamole

img_1592.jpg

This was really, really good. The meat was seasoned well and very tender. My only possibly complaint is that I would have liked more guacamole but then again, I would eat guac with a spoon!

On to dessert ...

img_1594.jpg

We decided to share the Creamy and the Decadent choices

img_1597.jpg

We were somewhat disappointed with the desserts. A couple of them were very good (the Chocolate Mousse with the salted caramel sauce and the cheesecake). But others were just not great for us (coconut panna cotta and Blueberry compote).

We also felt like hot tea after dinner ... I love the teapots

img_1596.jpg

Despite the desserts, we absolutely loved this meal. I think it is a nice change of pace from the other more 'standardized' menus that everyone is complaining about.

Total cost of items on the DP - $88.74

Total cost of the hot tea - $4.67

After our Wishes Cruise

img_1624.jpg

We went to the MK for EMH. About 1am we stopped at the Main Street Bakery to see what a meal credit would get us. We were told a sandwich, two pastries and a drink. I got a tomato mozzarella sandwich with a chocolate chip cookie, chocolate choissant and a bottle of water. When we got to the register we were told that only one pastry was included in the meal. When I told him what we were told, he honored it and only used 1 meal credit. I guess because it was late & we were tired, I forgot to take a picture but I wanted to say that the sandwich was surpisingly good for a pre-made prewrapped sandwich that had been sitting for I don't know how long. The bread didn't get soggy and had cheese baked into the crust. A very good late snack.

Total cost - $13.37

I totally agree with you about the Tonga Toast. Although I KNOW it is a favorite here on the board (causing me to try it on our last visit), it's not a favorite of mine. It was so sweet, that it made me sick, causing me to miss most of that day's outings and have to stay in our room.

And as for the Dole Whip...another board favorite....I WILL have one this time. I MUST....I MUST....:goodvibes Your pic looks so yummy!!!
