My family and I are planning a trip next year (3 day wonder/7day WDW). If we do this my son who will be a freshman will be missing 7 days of school to do it due to the fact that his Dad is unable to get any summers or school vacation time off. Have any of you done this? How did you adk your teachers for your work, and were they good about giving it to you? And was it hard to catch up when you got back? Thanks for your advice.

I have gone durning school before and it was great. All I had to do was go to the school office
and get a vacation form for my teachers to fill out and my parents to sign. By doing this the teachers can give their input on wether they thought it was a good idea that i missed school and also let my parents know what my grade was so far in the class. Most teachers don't have a problem with it unless you aren't doing to well in the class or you miss a lot of school.
I had to do this a week before i went. The vacation form once filled out by all of my teachers had to be signed by my parents then turned in to the office. This way its on file and all of the days missed while on vacation were excused.
And i just asked my teachers for a weeks worth of work and they were happy that i planed to do my work and not make it up when i got back.

Don't know if this will help.... This year I missed two weeks in October to go on the disney cruise and see disney (I'm in grade 11) and it was ok with all my teachers except one. I talked to some of the teachers and they told me that October and May were good months to be away since, their isn't midterms or finals at my school. You have to get a vacation slip from the office and then have a talk with principal before you can take off. If your marks are ok you won't have a problem but, this has to be done two weeks before your vacation. Most teachers are ok as long as you tell them well in advance and remind them. One thing to do is if your going away next year get your son to see whoever does the class schedules in June and make make sure if your son has a class he does bad in it's in the opposite semester of your trip. I know if I missed two weeks of math I wouldn't be able to catch up.

A few years ago, when I was in seventh grade, I had to miss 5 days of school for a WDW/DCL trip. I did what everyone else did, got the homework in advance and talked to my teachers. As long as you think your son will be able to all the homework and be able to catch up I'm sure he'll be fine. But maybe once he comes back he can talk to the teachers one-on-one to review what he's missed, because now that I'm in high school, I know that you miss a lot more than Middle School and it will be harder to catch up, but it can be done.

Have a great trip! :D

I agree with what everyone else has said. The only thing is to make sure the school will approve the absence. In my school district over 5 un-excused absences means he would lose class credit. This is especially important if he's taking a lot of honors classes! Hope I helped and that everything works out :)

yeah i think it just depends on the school district b/c at my school if you miss more than three days a semester than you do not have the option of exempting 2 of ur exams (as long as ur grade and conduct is acceptable, too.) but as far as the actual makeup work, i think it would be a lot, but totally worth it!

Like everyone else said, most schools will let you go if you let them know before you go, and most teachers will give you the homework. I was out of school in 7th grade for a week to go to WDW, and I caught up without any real problems then, but I KNOW I could never miss more than a week of school now. (I'm a freshman) I'm taking advanced classes and 1 is a lecture course, so it would be really hard to get caught up after coming back. Also, in 7th grade, I got all of my work before I left, but nobody really wants to do homework on vacation. I think that if your son thinks he'll be able to handle it, it should be fine, but if he's taking any really hard classes, he might have some trouble.

Im sorry but I really recommend to not take them out that long..I did it all though middle school but high school is totally different!
like i miss 2 days a year for a DL and I tell my teachers Im going to be absent and stuff but they almost never know what they are doing! dont ask me why they dont know 2 days in advance but they dont...so when i get back i have tests and quizzes and work to make up and it gets really hard.
in high school missing 7 days can kill you...i have missed one day before and I have been so far behind on work its not even funny
if thats the only time then thats the only time you could go..but if there was anyway to not have him miss so much school it would be better
also some school districts dont like vacations count as excused absenses...so you nee dot find out...but we almost never say its from a vacation..we say i was sick or something..none time we said my dad had a conference and we were going with him and they took it
yeah if hes taking hard classes it will be trouble...im missing the fridat b4 spring break and Im terrifyed im going to have like 4 tests on that day! like the day b4 thanksgiving break i had like 5 tests!
