Mom/Daughter Christmas Disney Trip: A Procrastinator's Plans in Progress

Love that your staying onsite!!!!!! More magic for you.

Try to get to the studios in time to see the lights go on.....So beautiful!

I would be happy to give you my FB info. because I have some light video...so pretty!

I really enjoyed your cruise TR, and I'm so psyched to get psyched with you for this special trip:cool1:! We were there at Christmas time 2 years ago. We don't even celebrate Christmas, and we loved it! I think it's a great idea to use some of your 3 days at AKL to just enjoy the non-park stuff. I'd wanted to go around to all the resorts and see the Christmas decorations, especially the big gingerbread cookie house, but we just didn't take the time. Enjoy!! If you go to the Christmas party at MK (I forget all the actual initials - anyone?) then you can get in at 4pm until the nightime without buying a park ticket for that day.
Looking forward to the continuation of your PTR!

I still have popcorn buckests from our last trip to the World! They are fun to use to keep the magic going!

:thumbsup2

I am so glad to hear about your trip plans. I love December at Disney!! Let me know about renting DVC points, That is an interesting idea...might keep that in mindfor our cruise trip.

The renting points thing is new to me. But if you know someone that is a DVC owner and has resort points that they won't be using , you can "rent" those points from them and stay at the resort. The DVC owner decides how much to sell each point (approx $9-$12 each). There is a discussion board on the DVC threads that is entirely for renting points between Dis'ers. You can find lots of more info there.

Love the bucket, an excellent Disney piggy bank :)
:thumbsup2

Mother/daughter, one of favorite trips!

I'm "old" & my Mom & I go every year for a week in December. It's magic:santa:

Have a wonderful time:santa::cool1::santa:

Thanks! I love our Mom/Daughter trips! It's so much fun.

What an AWESOME find, Kristi!! I LOVE it!:lovestruc And I like even better that you're going to use it as your "Disney Bank"! Very cool!!:woohoo:

I know, it was in such great condition, I just couldn't resist buying it!!!!

Im here and checking in! :wave2: I totally know what you mean about saving seperate money for tickets! It really hurts the budget when you have to buy them out of "spending" money! lol Have you ever looked into annual passes? They are around $500 a person but if you go a few times a year it works out! Plus having the pass will give you a reason to go more! We are looking into it now because we go at least twice a year...

Thanks for joining my PTR! I have looked into the annual passes, but we've never actually been to WDW more than once a year. But before I buy the tickets for this trip, I'm going to have to decide if we'll be going back within the year (and we probably will, cause DD is already saying she wants to go again for her next birthday ;))

I save all my change in a WDW bank I got at a thrift store for $1 and usually it adds up to $200 a year.Just empty the wallet every night and then you are forced to break a bill and then there is more change to save. Also I go to Bingo every week . I budget the $20 to spend..if I don't go I save that $20 and all winnings...over $600 since we got back from Disney in Feb so that paid for airfare for this next trip in Jan. "A $ saved is a $ for Disney"

Good idea about emptying the wallet. I'll have to do that.

joining in! Yay for Xmas trip :)

Thanks for joining in!

Joining in too. I didn't realize you never stayed onsite before.

Yeah, we've always stayed offsite. It's just so much cheaper for me, and we are hardly in the room anyway. And with DD's school schedule, we have only really been able to go at the "peak" seasons and the onsite hotels were always "peak" price! Hopefully we can start staying onsite on future trips!

Sending you a PM. I'd like to hear more about that!

I'm glad you liked my cruise TR, and that you're here for this one! I had thought about going to the Christmas Party, but the day we arrive is the last day of the party, so I don't know if we would have time.

Were you able to find a hotel for the end of the trip? Hope things are well :)

Were you able to find a hotel for the end of the trip? Hope things are well :)

No, I haven't decided about that yet. Everything's been crazy busy the last couple weeks with school stuff, etc., I haven't had much time to get back to my Disney plans. But this week coming up, we're on a "fall break" for a few days, so I'm hoping to get some planning done!!!!

Also, we've been busy the last few days getting ready for today's yard sale. Not our planned "huge" family one, but just a little regular one. So from that, I was able to put $81 in the
Budget Bucket!!:cool1:

Also, in all this busy-ness, we've been planning another get-together with Dis'er Missy & Mike this weekend. So I'll be updating again soon!!

Awesome about the proceeds from the yard sale! :cool1:

Have a fabulous weekend and fall break :) Looking forward to hearing about the latest adventure!

Not sure if you've seen it yet, but just in case you haven't there's this awesome thread on all things available to do during Christmas at WDW.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2233038

a few posts down someone grouped everything together.

I am so IN! I love that you're doing a mom daughter trip. Go you for going back to school! I definitely hope you have the most magical trip! If you have time I hope you read my PTR, my trip is dedicated to the memories of my ma.

It's great that you're going for the holidays! You'll love it! I've gone for the past couple of years at Christmas time and I don't think any other time can compare to it. The crowds are a bit larger, but then... so is the magic :) I love it! You get the magic of Disney and the holidays, and it just gives you a happy feeling!

Also, I love the Disney bucket idea! :)

Patiently waiting for an update!:rolleyes1:laughing: I hope you were able to finalize some plans while you've been on break!!

You didn't tell me about the yard sale...that's awesome!!! :woohoo:

Kristi, I just realized I saw you post on that Christmas thread a few years ago! I totally forgot that when I posted the link :rotfl:

It was definately an adventure! I'll post a mini TR soon!

I'll check out your PTR. I love our Mom/Daughter trips! Can't wait for this one!

I think we can handle the crowds. We've went a few times during Spring Break and it was crowded, but do-able.

You didn't tell me about the yard sale...that's awesome!!! :woohoo:

Oh, yes, I forgot to tell you about that. My sis had the yard sale Saturday also, and I told her if she wanted to, she could keep some of my stuff there and sell it for me. For Saturday, she sold another $37 for me!!!!

Still been checking on some offsite hotels but haven't made a decision. Knowing my luck, as soon as I book, a really great deal will come out! So I'm trying to keep an eye out on different sites for deals.

Checking in for in update:santa:

Going to get a mini TR done hopefully in the next couple of days.:thumbsup2

Kristi, I just realized I saw you post on that Christmas thread a few years ago! I totally forgot that when I posted the link :rotfl:

That's OK. It's probably been so long ago, I don't even remember what I posted! :lmao: I'll definately go back & check it out, though!!

If you read any of my other TR's, you know I like to add in mini TR's.

We took another mini trip to Atlanta to meet up with Dis'er Missy & Mike.

We decided to go to Six Flags since DD has been wanting to go for the Halloween Fright Fest there.

As I mentioned previously, it was definately an adventure. And proof that bad luck/craziness seems to be a common theme with me.

First, me & DD were running a few minutes late getting to meet them. We met up, decided to ride together (to avoid parking fee for 2 cars), then came into HUGE traffic through Atlanta, which made us run even more late! :headache:

We finally arrived and it was a little more crowded than we thought. Figuring it would be less crowded early into the month than later, wrong! It was pretty crowded, with wait times for everything between 90-120 minutes.

We took a few pics when we got there:

DD and Missy decided to ride a coaster, can't remember which one (Missy, help me out with this one?????) and I chickened out on it!

011.jpg

Here's another one they wanted to ride :scared1: (NOT me, though, nope, I don't think so!)

014.jpg

Well, me & Mike was kinda hanging out waiting for them to ride it and talking about how crazy they were, :lmao:. Well, all of the sudden, this HUGE booming sound echoed from the motor of the ride, and the car got stuck!!

We figured they would fix it and continue, but we waited & waited. Mike went to check out where you could see the huge motor and it had a busted whole through it. So now I get scared for DD & Missy to ride it, so we go try to find them. We spotted them still in line and didn't know if they knew what happened or not. Even knowing that thing was stuck, they had planned to stay in line for it! :rotfl2:

So they finally made an announcement that the ride would be closed. Being curious, we wanted to find out how they were going to get the people out of the car. So we stayed and watched for a while. It was scary and interesting how they managed to do it.

So we continued on to enjoy the park. Until we had a health scare with DD, that sent us to the medical facility for a while.
THANK GOODNESS this wasn't one of those trips me & DD go at alone.

After everything seemed OK, we decided to take it easy and stroll around the park some more.

A few character pics:

After it got dark, they had a few scary characters throughout the park. We went to a few shows and rode a couple of mild rides. We all finally decided to get some funnel cakes and call it a day!!!

What a crazy, but fun day it turned out to be!

It was the Georgia Scorcher that we rode!! It was SOO fun! Wish we could've gotten you and Mike on it!!:)

Yes, Mike still reminds me how crazy he thinks I am that we were going to stay in line after the ride got stuck! I told him that in our defense we had no idea that it was as bad as it was. I think they have a lot of re-thinking to do on that ride! Mike's no engineer, but even he could tell the problem that caused it to break. Kinda makes me wonder if it's going to end up like Deja Vu...always stayed broke down, so they eventually just took it out!

The funnel cakes were SOOO yummy! I could go for another one of those!!:)

90-120 minutes wait!!! Looks like fun though :) I love roller coasters, the problem is when they're building up to the first big drop I really regret getting on, but then love it when it's over :confused3

OH MY GOODNESS!!! those people must have been so scared hanging like that on the ride not know if they were going to crash to their deaths!!! :scared1: I'm sure that's what I would have been thinking anyway.

I'm so glad DD is alright. I'm sorry you had to go to the medical facility.

i love roller coaster but that has always freaked me out being stuck at the worst part. So glad no one was hurt or worse your daughter on it. I would have freaked had it been my kids

That "horrid" ride is like the dragster at Cedar Point...and that thing is broke down more than it's running. I'm surprised they haven't just gotten rid of it yet. People wait in really long rides for it though.

I would've died being stuck in that spot and it doesn't look all that safe...the way they brought them down. Did they drag the whole car back, or did the people have to get out and go on that platform thing.

I would need more bribery than a pretzel to get me on that thing!! :lmao:

Funnel cakes.....yum..:cloud9:

Thanks!

That was really the scariest part, not knowing if that car would come crashing backwards!

I would have defintely freaked out if my child was on there!

They had to get the people out one by one on that yellow platform thing. It was scary looking!

I made a little progress on my planning over the weekend. After the first 3 nights at AKL, we are going to stay at the Best Western LBV inside Downtown Disney area. We stayed there this past June before the cruise. We really liked the hotel, and I came across a really good deal for it. In my cruise 2011 TR, I have a review if anyone is interested.

I thought I'd share with you all a little mini TR of our day in the NC mountains over the weekend. We went to this apple orchard that I've heard lots of good things about. It is the Sky Top Orchard in Flat Rock, NC, about an hour & a half from us.

The mountains were so pretty. We picked lots of apples and had lots of fun.
