"Mom, Dad, 3 Kids & a Gingerbread Boy" Matty's Wish Trip December 10-18, 2009

Cat in the Hat and Grinch at breakfast my son would have been on cloud nine!:cloud9:I remember the old cartoons fondly but my kids have no idea who most of the charcters are eigther. We are planning on taking them to Jellystone Resort and Sixflags eigther this summer or next and I think I will do a variation on Disney Family Movie Nights before we go. We can do Old Cartoon Nights,:rotfl2: then maybe the kids will actually know who Yogi Bear is at the character breakfast.:rotfl:

"A Cat and a Who, Betty Boop, Dudley Do, a BIG Dinosaur, and Thing 1 and Thing 2"

Part III: A BIG Dinosaur

Toon Lagoon behind us we set our sights on our next adventure:

100_2377.jpg

Ahhhhhhhh...............Jurassic Park! We meet our first friend not far from the entrance:

100_2379.jpg

and then head off for our first ride, the Pteranodan Flyers, for a short aerial adventure that allows us a bird's-eye-view of the surrounding area:

100_2381.jpg

100_2382.jpg

100_2384.jpg

And 'short' it certainly proves to be. Fun but short. Waaaaaaaay to short according to Matty. As we disembark we find ourselves lost amid a maze of tunnels within secret caves that eventually lead to a prehistoric playground known as Camp Jurassic. There are slides and suspension bridges and climbing nets and big huge dinosaur footprints that, when stepped on, set off loud rumbling roars from nearby dinosaurs  The kids LOVE it:

100_2385.jpg

100_2386.jpg

Now Jurassic Camp encompasses a fairly large area and it's quite easy to lose track of children as they scramble in and amongst the caves. Initially all four of my kiddos are playing nicely together so dh and myself sit ourselves down on a nearby bench. It's pretty crowded and it's hot. Before long I decide to make sure no one (specifically Brennan) has wandered off and gotten themselves lost. I get up to find the kids. I find them...............well, I find three of them. Ok, so where's Brennan? I start looking..............and looking. I look some more. Where's my Brennan:eek: I find dh and ask him "WHERE'S BREN?" OK, so now I'm starting to panic. Just as the panic is getting a good grasp I round a corner and hear music to my ears. I hear crying. Familiar crying. And off in the distance I see.................. it's Brennan:yay: :yay: :yay: He's a mess. He's hysterical. A young teenage girl is trying to comfort him. I call his name, he looks up and sees me, a look of relief taking over his little face. I thank the young girl profusely who puts a hand on my shoulder and says "I'm Shayna..................Chrissi's daughter". I step back and take a good look at her.............OMG.............it is!!!! Now can you believe it? Here we are, in the company of how many thousands of people? In the midst of a how huge of a theme park? My 4 yr gets lost in Camp Jurassic, and with all these people in the immediate vicinity who comes to his rescue? And, she confesses, she had not recognized him as being a part of another Wish family until she had recognized ME.

Now for anyone not part of the Wish family on these boards, Chrissi and I 'met' here on the DIS in November whilst planning our childrens' Wish Trips. It just so happened we would both be at GKTW the exact same dates 12/10 -12/16. We had both arrived within hours of one another that Thursday morning. We had run into each other a couple of times at the Village thus far and talked of getting together but, as of yet, had not made any definitive plans. Coincidence? I suppose that's one theory. I have other ideas.

After getting over our initial surprise we manage to calm my little guy down and walk back to dh who is, now, standing in the same vicinity as Chrissi and the rest of her family. We share the story, shake our heads in disbelief and chat a bit. It's getting late and they have plans for dinner soon over at CityWalk. We are still hoping to do alittle more here at IOA and then move on over to US for the balance of the day. So we say goodbye and go our seperate ways, promising, once again, to catch up later. The kids agree that they've had enough of Camp Jurassic and it's time to find an adventure. As we head out of Camp we spot just the thing........ .......................The Jurassic Park River Adventure!!!!! Now unfortunately I have no pictures of this ride (and for the life of me I don't know why:sad2:) but you'll have to take my word for it.............it was WILD. The adventure starts out innocently enough with a gentle ride down an equally gentle river, cute little dinosaurs playing along side in the water and up along the shores. But then something seems to go very wrong:eek: All heck breaks loose  As the dinosaurs are going wild we cast our eyes upon a very very very very very LARGE T-Rex looming ahead. He is larger than life! And he looks quite hungry :scared1: It was at this point on our very first ride that my little Matty grabs my arm, snuggles up as close as close can be, puts his little head in the crook of my arm and whispers "Oh no.................Momma...........................Loooooooooooooooook"::eek::scared1: :scared1:

Of course just before we are about to become a tasty appetizer for this carnivorous creature we find ourselves dropping into oblivion. Can you say WOOHOO?????? We sure did. And then disembark only to return for not one, but two more rides (including Matty who absolutely loved it once he knew he wasn't going to end up as Dino's dinner).

I give this ride 10 stars!

On the way out of Jurassic Park Nick finds yet another dapper dinosaur. He strikes two poses. I think the first is simply pointing out his new friend to the camera (as in 'looky there, haha, he thinks he's scary'). The second, well, I think that's Nick's attempt at a ROAR:laughing:

100_2387.jpg

100_2388.jpg

And off we go......................back to the Land of the Who's:

100_2391.jpg

Next up Part IV: Thing 1 and Thing 2

That's WILD about Crissi's daughter finding Brennan!!! Talk about small world, right? Now Brennan is four, right? Did he go on rides like Jurassic Park, too? The reason I ask is that Ali is also four and is very tall, meaning that she will easily hit the height requirement for all of these borderline rides. I've been showing her YouTube videos of them and all, and she's like, "I want to go on THAT!" But I'm nervous about it. Having btdt, what is your professional momma opinion, especially if it is something he thought he wanted but ended up not liking.

Still loving your TR - I should have logged on at 3am when I was up and couldn't sleep!

Great character pics--how cute!! And great idea to wear the ponchos on the water ride!!! :thumbsup2 I bet everyone else wished they had thought of that!! :goodvibes

Nothing worse than soaking wet cranky kids (not that a soaking wet cranky momma is any better:rolleyes1)

LOVE this picture - adorable!!!

I just loooooooove that px:)

Hey I love Yogi Bear (heeeeeey Boo Boo, where's my pic-a-nic baskit???) We went camping at a Jellystone Park near us last summer (actually the campground was kind of dumpy but we had a ball anyway). Also went to an indoor Six Flags water park in Lake George NY last winter with Tweety and Daffy Duck and PePe Le Pew!!!!!!! There's a Six Flags wet/dry park not far from where we live but haven't taken the big kids yet (Bren and I have been). That's on the to do list for this summer!

I like the idea of an Old Cartoon Night! Can I come?????

Hey, I'm always up for company at 3 am!

Your right, Bren is 4 (he was 4 in August). He's not the most adventurous of my clan but now that he's tall enough always gets dragged along for the ride anyway (no pun intended). Well, for at least ONE ride :rotfl:. Some things he loves, others he hates but the trauma never lasts longer than the duration of the ride :lmao: No, truthfully, he's always been fine just real quick to let us know whether he'll ever be going again. I guess it depends on the child. I imagine some kids might be more freaked out by a bad experience than others and then could be reticent to ride anything else. Has Ali had much experience with such rides?

As an aside we just got our vouchers for our GAD/GAD service we did on Monday. That was quick:yay: How far in advance can I start a December PTR :rotfl:

Pamela:santa:

You can start a December PTR - NOW!!!!! popcorn:: Ours for Sept 2010 has been going for over a year, now, I think? We have been planning since LAST December. ::yes::

I know I had already heard the story once about Chrissi's daughter finding your son...but I think I thought you guys had been together already?!? She RANDOMLY found him?!!?!

That is CRAZY!

The DIS is so awesome!

I am loving your TR! I am from Central MA too-Dudley. What town do you live im?

I am all caught up on your Trip Report! Wow - you posted lots while I was gone! My favorite part is the DISrescue! Woohoo for Chrissi's daughter finding Bren!

I can't wait to read more!!

I'm loving the pics of US/IOA! I definitely see lots of stuff for the kids to do there! Awesome TR!!!!

Kelly, Tessa is barely four and I'm planning to take her on everything she's tall enough for (already 40 inches, so should be all kiddy rides and some bigger ones too). She LOVED the rides at the fair and D-Land last year. I plan to start out in the kiddy-lands just to be sure. Phoebe is the one I'm more nervous about. She has enjoyed coasters and such in the past, but I'm not sure about "big" rides. I'm going to test her slowly.

Amazing TR so far! It's great to see Mr. Gingie doing so well. My brother was born (back in 82, so awhile ago based on how much medicine has changed) with pulmonary stenosis. It's hard to explain, but basically the pulmonary valve (going from your heart to your lungs) doesn't function properly. Back in those days, it was a grim, grim situation. He had open heart surgery when he was just 6 weeks old, and another surgery when he was 4. Jon is now 27 years old, happy and very healthy. He's developed another, although minor, heart condition (mitral valve prolapse) but the docs are optimistic that he will live a long life. Reading your TR has given me so much hope, since there's a good chance my child will have some heart problems, as I have MVP with a pretty serious murmur, and even more family history of heart problems. I know now that technology and medicine has changed so much over the years, and that my baby will have a fighting chance.

Sorry for the long ramble there, it isn't very often I get a chance to vent about heart problems, or meet someone who's dealt with them with an intensity similar to what my parents went through. They too stayed at a Ronald McDonald house, and I always make a point of donating to them every year.

Many blessings to your precious angel, and please feel free to share my brother's story with him if you want! Jon has come to view his scar as a badge of honor.

You've had a PTR going for over a YEAR?????? Now that's funny! I actually have to do one for our 'girl' trip this Spring first. I already have a title. Ready?

"This Time I Promise Not to Laugh If A Bird Poops On Your Head" :lmao:

You'll have to wait to hear the explanation for that one.

I am loving your TR! I am from Central MA too-Dudley. What town do you live im?

Hey WELCOME!! Hmmmmm where IS Dudley???? My dh says south shore towards RI.....is he right? We are in North Grafton, just east of Worcester.

I am all caught up on your Trip Report! Wow - you posted lots while I was gone! My favorite part is the DISrescue! Woohoo for Chrissi's daughter finding Bren!

Hi Stephanie.....................hugs to your family. Hope you are all hanging in there:hug:

:yay: Another fan of US/IOA. I was out to dinner last night with old friends, a couple of which are big big Disney fans. When I started talking about US/IOA even they just poo-pooed it (although they then admitted they hadn't been there since the early 90's). I think US needs to get on the stick and up their advertising as people just seem clueless. Of course, on second thought, maybe not 'cuz then it'll get really really crowded!!!!!!

Thanx for chiming in and sharing your family's story. Medical technology is indeed amazing isn't it? Gives us hope for Matty's future. We always refer to Matty's scars as his 'battle wounds'. At this point he doesn't seemt to really pay attention much. I hear about other children who ask alot of questions.................Matty? Never. He's more concerned about the scar on his face after splitting his head open on the stone hearth of the fireplace last year:eek:

Congrats on the soon-to-be new addition!!! Are they doing an echo for you given your family history? I'll be thinking good thoughts for you and your family:)

Pamela:santa:

Im loving your tr!! I used to sit and watch Popeye with my dad and we would sit and laugh! Snuffy Smith and "family Circle" I think is the name of it along with Blondie are the only comics I would read lol.

I love the pictures of you all with Grinch. It is too funny how he wanted Mickey covered up!

I am taking some poncho's with us this time. Hopefully not for the rain but the water rides:thumbsup2

I remember the Family Circle. I haven't looked at the 'funny papers' for years (eventhough it's included in our Sunday paper:confused3). I think FC is still running isn't it???????

I had read somewhere to just use extra large garbage bags for the water rides and so we packed some....................but then forgot to take 'em with us to US:sad2: I've got now got the ponchos stored in the suitcases so when we go somewhere where we will need them again, I won't be running all over the house looking for them (and end up having to buy new ones when I couldn't find them LOL)

Pamela:santa:

You should have heard him dissing Mickey. It was hilarious. Thanx for sticking with me (and posting.............according to the numbers it would seem that I've got alot of followers but very few seem to be coming out lurkdom:sad2:)

oh, and if you just go ahead and start that community thread for december I promise to jump in:goodvibes We'll have to commisserate (is that two 's'es or one?) on a good title. Hmmmmmmmmmm Pamela:santa:

I hate when life/work gets in the way of my DIS time for a few days! Always know that I will be back even if I go missing for a little while. If this December trip thing pans out I will let you know!

awesome update! :)

You are making me WANT to go to Universal. :rolleyes1

Where do you think I got the idea from??? Pamela is going to convert us all from avoiding it like the plague to actually wanting to go there.

Great updates! Amazing about Chrissi's daughter finding Bren!

Hi! Dudley is actually south of Worcester, close to CT but we are only about 1/2 hour from you! I am loving your TR! Can't wait for more!

Hi, I enjoyed reading this thread! I too LOVE gingerbreadmen! I guess I have an obession!:rotfl: My kitchen has a gingerbread border, also a few ornaments! People always buy me gingerbreadmen too! My DD rec'd a dream trip kind of the same idea, we went to Las Vegas to see the Spice Girls!!! It was amazing! She still talks about it , we went in 2007!

You have a beautiful family!

I don't think you missed much as I've been slackin' the last couple of days. And today I've been in bed sick all day today so eventhough I'd like to write another update I'm not sure it'll happen.

dh just said I should be getting some sort of referral fee from Universal:laughing:

I just got a PIN code for December so I may just make a ressie and cancel later on down the line if something unforseen happens that makes it a no-can-do. I find that, for us, actually doing somethinig like making the reservation, increases the chances it will happen ten-fold (hint hint)

aha............gotta go tell dh he was wrong haha. We are both originally from the Metro Boston area so central mass is still like another country to us (we moved here in 2005). Now that I think of it we have old friends in Webster...........is that adjacent to you?

oooooh on the gingerbread man kitchen border!!!!

Was your daughter's trip a Wish Trip? The Spice Girls?!? Must've been wild. I'd love to read a trip report about that!

Pamela:santa:

And here I was thinking that you had posted the next installment to your TR.:woohoo: I'm sorry that you're feeling poorly. There seems to be a lot of crud going around right now. I hope that you are feeling better soon and that the kids manage to escape it.

"A Cat and a Who, Betty Boop, Dudley Do, a BIG Dinosaur, and Thing 1 and Thing 2"

Part: V: Thing 1 and Thing 2

Ok......so, by now, almost everybody reading here knows how I feel about Islands of Adventure's Suess Landing. But in the off chance that I'm wrong, and there actually is someone new jumping on board, I will let a few emoticons speak for me: :cool1:  :woohoo: :yay: We enter the area with stomachs rumbling bringing the search for food to the top of the agenda but, first, a quick change of clothes is in order for my Matty (we'll just keep the 'why' to ourselves ok? :rolleyes1). We stop into a nearby store and, after an exhaustive search, find a pair of pants (which now of course also requires a matching shirt). As we emerge we can't help but notice the rear ends of some freaky red-suited creatures. Santa Claus? With blue hair?????

100_2396.jpg

Naaaaaaaah...............Thing 1 and Thing 2!! We had no idea how appropriate Matty's new outfit would be:

100_2399.jpg

100_2400.jpg

100_2401.jpg

The other kids join in the fun:

100_2402.jpg

100_2403.jpg

100_2404.jpg

100_2405.jpg

Autographs are signed and hugs are exchanged and then it's time to return to our search for some green eggs and ham. But wait.......

100_2407.jpg

guess we needed one more hug for the road:)

In the distance we see the giant big top looming:

100_2397-1.jpg

and in short order arrive at our destination:

100_2415.jpg

While waiting for the food the kids find a new ride (perhaps they'll accept this as a substitute for that van they're so longing for:laughing:):

100_2414.jpg

And after a quick and yummy lunch we exit to ride a few rides. On our way to the Sky Suess Trolley Train my Nicholas gets lost in a jungle of Truffula Trees:eek: (I think I need to transplant a few to my garden!):

100_2417.jpg

and then three of my four kids get accosted by a band of Who's:eek:

100_2418.jpg

100_2421.jpg

100_2422.jpg

to be cont'd.......

continuing.............

We head on back to that crazy Caro-Seussel:

and at 4:30, since once is never enough, we run to catch yet another performance of:

Here's a couple of photos to refresh the memory:

Too much fun!!!!

After the show Liv and Matty catch up with a couple more of those wacky Who's:

100_2437.jpg

and then of course we must ride the infamous Cat in the Hat not once but two times (hope you don't mind if I include my three favorite pictures from before)!!

100_2077.jpg

100_2082.jpg

100_2087.jpg

Although we could certainly spend the rest of the day here in Suessville (my pet name hehe) it is getting late. The plan had been to return to Universal to catch today's Macy's parade but at this point we realize, sadly, that we won't get there in time. Still there are a number of attractions we did not get to enjoy as well as a few we might like to enjoy yet again if given the chance, so we make the decision that it's time to go. We leave Suess Landing with promises to return again next year!

Time check at the Universal Studio turnstiles reveal it to be 5:40. YIKES Park closes at 7 pm! We had hoped to be able to catch a show (more than a few had caught my eye) but find that ALL of the shows have already had their final run for the day. There are so many things we were sure the kids would've loved but never had time to do. Woody Woodpecker's Nuthouse Rollercoaster, Curious George's Storyland Playland, Fievel's Playground. Nevermind Disaster, a reported thrill for the whole family or Revenge of the Mummy for the older kids.We are having trouble deciding and time's moving on. Not wanting to wander all over the park looking for the perfect attraction we decide to just go for a shoe-in. Can't go wrong with our favorite ride now can we? We make our way to:

100_2470.jpg

As always we are led to the front of the line only to find, already patiently waiting...................................... Chrissi and her family!!!!!!!! Now this is getting alittle crazy don't you think? We chat while waiting and then part again with promises to catch up later (are you noticing a pattern here:laughing:). The ride doesn't disappoint, of course and although we are itchin' to ride again we decide to try something new. We know Men in Black is only a short walk so that seems like just the ticket. Now Men in Black for those not in the know, is similar to Toy Story Mania at HS/Buzz Lightyear Ranger Spin at MK and although fun, it pales in comparison to our adventure in Krustyland (aka The Simpson Ride). We are sad that we didn't just go for a repeat ride with Homer and Bart. It's 6:57. We wonder. Could we possibly make it back for one more ride? We run like crazy and.....................................

make the final ride!!!!

On the long walk to the front we take a couple of pictures of the huge balloons tethered throughout the park:

100_2464.jpg

100_2465.jpg

As well as one of a fellow who looks like perhaps he escaped from Suessville:eek::

100_2474.jpg

Since this is our last day at US/IOA we duck into a few stores in hopes of a securing some final souvenirs to mark our fun at these parks. Matty and Brennan had each claimed a "Thing" before leaving Land of all things Suess ('2' and '1' respectively); Nick is having trouble making up his mind; Liv has her heart set on a Boop souvenir. Eventually Liv makes her selection and poses with the icon herself:

100_2479.jpg

and finally, after much coaxing, Nicky decides that a little stuffed ET is just the thing (awwwwwwwww). We exit the park ready to make the long walk to the parking lot. One more picture...............just 'cuz they are oh so cute (yeah, yeah, I know they're fuzzy but they're still cute):

100_2480.jpg

and we say goodbye.
