Mom and Dad's Dream Trip-34 Yrs in Making-Jun08 SOUVIE PICS PG 51 NEXT TRIP!!???!!!!?

I spent most of the evening reading your TR! I am so excited that your trip was awesome! We are going in 92 days :D and I cannot wait. Fun trips like yours are keeping our trip close!!!

Thanks Jackie!! I am glad you can relive it with me! I SO loved this bag throughout this trip! Never felt bogged down by my bag at all! We have such good taste girl!

We had a great time, and I so loved Dinosaur too! I am glad that you enjoy it too! I wish you all could have been on the safari with us to enjoy and appreciate all the funny moments! Too funny! More coming soon!

I loved my Hipster on the trip as well -- it was just the perfect bag!

Hurray for more funny comments -- I love it when the kids just come out with these things!

Loving your report so far! Your family looks like a lot of fun! I will have to remember that trick on the Safari for when we take all of my nieces and nephews next year! I'll bet that was priceless!!

Can't wait to read more!

Great updates, thanks! I have been gone for a few days and afraid that I missed a bunch.

Hey Jen, thanks for the long reply. I LOVE your idea of picturing myself on Splash Mt. or Kali! I always seem to get so soaked on Kali, if it's a really hot day I'd choose that one! :rotfl2:

Splash is always my fav though! Just enough water! :thumbsup2

Tomorrow is Friday!

Wow OKW is so pretty isn't it? I really enjoyed my stays there. The room size is enormous! Sorry about your bus incident.

We were at AK on the 8th.:thumbsup2 I needed to upgrade a one day pass to a 10 day PH+. So I was at the ticket window until about 9:05, for my patience the CM gave me 3, 5 person FP's! Better than a dream FP to us. We used 2 on EE, and one on Safari.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: So, like your group, we started at Dinosaur and PW too! Looked for us in your pictures, didn't see our group. Stayed at AK until about 2:00, so I'll keep looking. :rolleyes1

Great report, can't wait to hear what you did next.

popcorn:: can't wait for more! Your report is great :)

I agree about the hipster!!! If anyone is looking for the perfect bag for your trip--realizing I had no need for a diaper bag mind you--the hipster is the way to go! I highly recommend it!

The kids are great sources of comedy in our family that is for sure!!! Thanks for sticking around Jackie--so glad you are here!

Thanks so much for the kinds compliments and WELCOME!!! We like to have fun in our family that is definitely true! Please do make a mental note of using the safari trick--especially if you have a "so cool" preteen on board! ;)

Great updates, thanks! I have been gone for a few days and afraid that I missed a bunch.

I've been "gone" too!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the updates--more to come really soon!

I'm glad I could help with my visualization exercise! On last year's trip I got pounded with water on both--but this year, stayed pretty dry on both---but will my family members be so lucky?!?!?!?!?! (ooooohhhhh, the suspense!) I too LOVE Splash Mtn!! I really do think it is one of my all-time favorites! I want to live in the little tree houses with those sweet looking bunnies! "How do you do?!?!?" Love the music throughout! GREAT ride!

Yeay! Jen is back! Did you survive your week without Tom? I was thinking about you!

The hipster is a great bag!!! Although, I have to confess, Jen, that I have been eyeing Lesley's VB backpack for next year! :rotfl2:

Where do you find out about the VB sales like the one you went to?

Hello my lovely TR followers!! I once again have to start a posting with "I AM SO SORRY!!!!" I can't believe how long I have really been away from the DISboards this week! I can't believe how I left you on the edge of the cliff of our AK day, and have yet to return to let you all know what happened!! I know you SAY you don't care, but I am so upset that I have not been able to really post and update this TR this week!! I had VERY high hopes that I would actually get more accomplished because Tom was out-of-town, but alas, I actually got less done! Please accept my humble apologies for leaving you hanging, on the edge of your seats, with white-knuckled grips, sweat pouring from your forehead, eyes bulging afraid you might blink and miss it, hearts pounding through your chests!!!!!!!!!!! :bitelip: :hyper:  :scared1: :faint:

Okay, I might have over-exaggerated JUST a little!!! Anyway, I am sincerely sorry I have had such an absence--we have been quite busy doing some really fun things this week, so I can't complain on my end. Wednesday we spent a very relaxing day at my house with my Mom---we all slept in until 10:15! I couldn't believe it! That night we met my Dad for supper and had a great time! My Mom and I continued on with our chick flick marathon that evening! (We watched all the following this week: 'Definitely Maybe' (Good!), 'Fool's Gold' (a little disappointing--wanted more funny and less violent), 'P.S. I Love You' (great chick flick--need a couple of kleenexes), and 'License to Wed' (funny--gotta love Robin Williams and John Krasinski--definitely NOT the best Williams' flick of course but still good). On Thursday, Megan and I had an all-day play date with her best friend from school--Julia!!! We spent the morning and early afternoon at Julia's neighborhood pool, and the afternoon playing at her house. I really like Julia's mom, so we all had a great afternoon!! On Friday, we were together with Mom and all Mike's kids, and spent the afternoon at the swim club that they belong to!! Megan learned how to "jump" into the pool--aka propel herself into the water while sitting on the wall---with her swim ring on of course! She was so proud of herself, and so was I!! She was too cute, and we had to do it over and over and over again, which was even cuter! That evening, we went to the Cincy Zoo for Member's Night (we are members obviously) with our best friends Roy and Jen and their four beautiful children!! We had a great time exploring the zoo with relatively no one there, and seeing the return of the giraffes in the new giraffe exhibit! It was a great evening!! Megs fell asleep in the car on the way home, but was so excited because she knew when she woke up she would get to see DADDY!!!!
I went home, put her to bed, and gussied myself up a little knowing that Tom would be home around midnight! I was on the DIS a little last night, but my time got cut short, because Tom got home a half hour before I thought he would!! YEAH!!! I ran to the door and gave him a big "kissie" as Megs would say!
Today, we had a special treat for breakfast--Tom and Megs went up and got doughnuts for us. Then we went to see an afternoon matinee of 'Wall-E!' I don't want to say too much about it, but it is AMAZING!! I was blown away by the animation!! Wall-E is too cute, and I really just liked this movie!! I thought it was pretty darn sweet! It is different from a traditional Pixar movie like Toy Story, but nevertheless, I think a true gem! We came home and had some lunch, and now they are out stocking up on some movie rentals at Blockbuster because we are getting storms the rest of the day/evening. We will probably have a little crash night together watching some flicks!!!

SO, that is why I have been MIA. I probably won't get to post an update right now, but will try later. I promise it is on its' way, and hopefully will be here soon!! Sorry to leave you hanging!!! Thanks for understanding!! Hope to "hear" from you all soon!!! Have a great weekend in the meantime!!! Jen

Hey Sweet Jackie!!! I'm Here!! Back and ready for more!! :thumbsup2 I did survive the week, but glad he is home!! Thanks for thinking about me! I know what you mean about Les's backpack--too cute too!! The VB sale is a once a year thing usually around the last weekend in April--they always have the info on the VB website. It was SO much fun, and I definitely think I will be going back next year--if so, I can always get you something that you need and send it on to you! They always have it in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I hope that info helps you out!!! Hoping you are having a great weekend!! Are you guys going to go see 'Wall-E' this weekend or soon? I think you would enjoy it!

What a fun-filled week! I'm so jealous that you get to do SO much fun stuff! Even when you're not at Disney! The only time I do that much in a week is when I'm at Disney!

On another note I can't believe it's almost JULY!

Jen-
First of all... we headed to the zoo last night too, the girls so love the giraffes. We went last week, and it was cool that they were closer already. Hannah cannot wait to feed them. In fact her "treat" was a giraffe.... we only get something member's night with the good discount! Sorry we missed you!

Secondly did Megan like the movie... how did she do? There is not much talking, right? We might take Hannah tomorrow... of course Em wants to go, but I doubt she would make it... she cannot sit still.

Glad your back!

I cried my eyes out when I watched P.S. I Love You!! My DH was giggling at me. He couldn't believe all of the tears that were falling. And I, like you, was not impressed with Licensed to Wed. It wasn't as funny as I wanted it to be. Glad your husband made it home safely. That's always a good feeling when they walk in the door. Can't wait to read more. We leave for Mexico on Tues, so hopefully I'll be able to tap into some wireless when we're down there.

I just wanted to tell you about my find at TJ Maxx. I was just browsing yesterday and came across a lot of VB stationary. Knowing how much you love the bags, thought you might want to see if your store has any. Everything was 6.99 or under. I have quite a few pieces now, and needed a great gift to send my SIL. I was so happy, I just love the discount stores for great quality merchandise.:cutie:

It was a great week!! You are TOO funny!!! We do try to stay busy--I guess I shouldn't tell you about the lunch with my parents and the church festival we hit yesterday???? I can't believe it is almost July either?!?!?!? Where did June go??? Oh yeah, we were at WDW where time always flies by too quickly!! That's good news for you and your upcoming adventure! It will be here so soon! I know July is going to fly for Tom and I as well because we have so much going on--our great friends from Kansas City, MO, Allen and Nicole, are coming in town to spend this weekend with us, then the next weekend we are hosting Tom's family's yearly summer picnic, then we are having a small reunion get-together with all my high school girlfriends and their hubbies, and THEN Tom and I celebrate our wedding anniversary on the 24th!!! August will be here before we know it!

OMG--I can't believe we missed each other at the zoo!! I hope you all enjoyed your evening--it was a nice one for sure! The kids all loved the giraffes--Megan didn't want to leave the exhibit at all!

Megan and all of us LOVED Wall-E!!! No it is not like a typical Pixar classic with the witty dialogue and characterization like Nemo or Toy Story, but it is amazing to watch, and I think Hannah will totally fall in love with Wall-E, just like Megan did! It is amazing what they can accomplish with almost no dialogue!!

I cried my eyes out when I watched P.S. I Love You!! My DH was giggling at me. He couldn't believe all of the tears that were falling. And I, like you, was not impressed with Licensed to Wed. I don't know how you watch P.S. without bawling your eyes out! I hope you all have a wonderful trip to Mexico!! ENJOY!!! Which part are you heading to?

What a great find!!! You can definitely find some great finds there!!! Happy for you to find a great gift for SIL!!! I will have to go check it out! Thanks!

I may have to send you a shopping list! :thumbsup2 You're the best! Have you seen the new fall patterns? :goodvibes

I am taking the kids to see Wall-E today -- Charles said it looks too depressing, so he will wait to hear what we have to say about it. :confused3 I can't wait!

Puccini from the fall collection is BEAUTIFUL IMO!!!

I hope you all enjoy Wall-E!! It really is not depressing--so sweet and you immediately fall in love with how adorable Wall-E is!! Like I said, not a traditional Pixar flick, but great nevertheless! I was so amazed by the animation too! So detailed and rich! I liked it, and I hope you do too!

If you have been waiting around feverishly for another update on our fabulous trip--------------------------------today is your LUCKY DAY!!!!

When I left you all last, we had just made it back from our "two week" safari into the wilds of Africa! COMPLETELY UNHARMED TOO!!! (Well, except for Conner who was still very unsure of whether or not the catastrophic bridge collapse was real or not!) :goodvibes Since we were in AK, where it always feels 100 degrees hotter whether in summer or winter, we were all pretty much melty mush by this point, so we decided to stop for some lunch before continuing onward. We headed towards the CS at Yak and Yeti. It was a nice change of pace as far as food choices were concerned, but not THE best food ever. (Still good for CS!) Tom and I both had the same thing--the Crispy Honey Chicken:

196.jpg

It comes all together with your rice in a chinese take-out container filled to the top--I obviously had already taken a couple bites before I thought to take a pic. It was good--needs a little more sauce on it--but probably not the best choice to eat when it is so hot you could melt! Kristi had their chicken mandarin salad, which was good, probably should have had that since it was cold! Megan enjoyed the chicken nuggets with some other goodies:

197.jpg

When Tom finished his lunch he walked right over to the FP distributor for Kali and got tickets for all of us. SCORE!! Once Mike, Tom, Kristi, and I were finished, we starting thinking about the FPs to EE that were burning holes in our pockets!!!

199.jpg

So since the kiddies were still working on their lunches, the four of us headed over there to ride while Mom and Dad hung out with the grandkids! (Mom didn't want to ride EE, and Dad was still eating) WHAT A BLAST!!! None of us had ever ridden EE before, so we weren't sure what to expect--we had a great time!!! The walk BACK to Yak and Yeti was SO hot though!!! I swear they heat the ground from underneath or something to give it that REALLY authentic African/Asian feel!!! Tom was starting to not look so good--he was really hot, and I was worried that riding EE after eating lunch was messing with his stomach. He headed into the restroom, and we started looking around for the fam since they had already gotten up from the table. We found everyone, but were still missing Tom--I was starting to worry now.........he had been in there for a while...........could he be sick?............waiting in the heat........melting by the minute...........where could Tom be?????..........was he okay?............I couldn't take it any more!!!! So I kindly asked Mike if he could go ahead and check on him since I couldn't. He obliged, and came back to inform us that Tom was okay and that he would be a few more minutes. We decided to continue to wait. After another 5 minutes, he finally came out--he was fine--just decided to stay in the air-conditioned restroom to chill out because it felt so good in there! The part of the communication that we missed was that he had told Mike to go ahead without him, oh well!! He said that he wasn't going to go on the ride, so we headed off to Kali without him, while he found a great bench in the shade to chill out on! So we headed up to Kali to give the lady our FPs.

Now, I am going to warn you, I have a little bit of ranting to do for just a second--please forgive me! We show our FP to the lady at the umbrella, and she stopped me to measure Megan--she is tall enough to ride, but has to ride under one of their pull-down orange bars. She begins to put the orange bracelet on Megan to let those down at the ride know that she needs the orange bar. I quickly stop her from doing so because Megan's sensory issues--she HATES wearing things on her wrists. I informed the lady that she has Sensory Integration Dysfunction and can not wear the bracelet--could I please wear it or hold it for her? NO, the lady says, if she doesn't wear it, she can't ride it. I pulled out our GAC--and I said "I know this doesn't say that she has a bracelet exception, but do you see what I am telling you is legit?!??!" By this point in time, there is a huge line swarming behind us--growing impatient that we are holding up the line. I tried to explain to her again that I understand their safety precautions, and therefore would be happy to hold it and will DEFINITELY make sure she is secured behind one of the orange bars, but explained to her that if she forced her to wear the bracelet, they would have another safety issue on their hands because she would begin to melt down--kicking and screaming on the ride! At this point, the mob behind us was growing restless, so she asked our whole family to step aside while she called to the dock so she could let the others through. We did step aside, and then waited while she called down there--which seemed to take another five minutes!!! She finally said that it would be okay if I wore the bracelet and held on to her--DUH!!!! Isn't that what I suggested from the get go???? The whole process took about 10 minutes, and IMO, should have NEVER been made into such an ordeal. The whole time I was talking to the lady, poor Megan was crying into my shoulder about how she didn't want to wear the orange bracelet--so sad! The crazy thing is, this is the second year in a row we have had SUCH a long drawn out ordeal at this ride!!! I wouldn't bother, but Megs loves this ride so much! Okay, rant over--thanks for listening!!! I just think it was so silly to drag it out the way they did!

OKAY, so we finally head down to the dock to ride the rapids! I was excited because I knew how much Megan loved the ride itself--she and I were nearly drowned on it last year and she giggled the entire time!! We boarded--made sure Megs was under an orange bar ;) --stowed our stuff and we were off!!! I knew there was the very real possibility that we would get drenched again, but I didn't care!! As we headed up the hill, our boat took a pleasant last second turn--that put Conner and my Dad (who were sitting together) in the direct line of fire!!! And boy did they get it good through the geysers!! We continued on through the rest of the ride--Megan and I only accumulating a few drips here and there! Then it came time for the falls--and I realized Megs and I were going to probably get it UNLESS we took another last second bump------------------------AND WE DID!!! The boat bounced around right before heading down the falls---nailing my Dad and Conner ONE MORE TIME!!!! We had a great time riding all together and we all laughed so hard as they got drenched!!! GREAT RIDE TOGETHER!!! Here's the AFTER of my Dad:

200.jpg

His entire shirt except that bottom right corner was SOAKED!!!!! Too funny!

We found Tom waiting on the bench, and told him that the kids were so excited about the ride they wanted to do it again!!! We went around to the entrance again, but somehow in the little time we were on it, the wait time went from 10 minutes to 60 minutes!!! When we realized we didn't want to wait it out, we headed back over for a FP, and that time had jumped all the way until like 3pm!!! We were just going to go ahead and get FP, and come back. BUT, when Megan had heard that we weren't going to go right away, she immediately hit her breaking point, and began melting down. (I'm sure the 10 minute issue with the bracelet didn't help here at all!!!) I realized quickly that I needed to get her out of the crowded area and away from all the people at the FP machines--I told them to go ahead and get their FP, but said I think we might need to go. I quickly took her back to the quiet and serenity of Tom's bench. (Sidenote: Not sure if I mentioned this or not, but last year the only place Megan had a SID meltdown was at about the same time and place in AK--wasn't good!! Still cry when I think about her shaking and crying from one of her sensory overload moments.) Having this past experience in mind, Tom and I just looked at each other and knew that we should probably go. We didn't want to leave, but knew that besides Nemo and maybe FofLK--we really had seen just about everything we wanted to see at AK, and it would be better in the long run if we took her back to OKW. My family found us right before we left so they could get their things and give hugs--they would end up staying the rest of the afternoon and had a great time--even got my dad on EE!!! I hope SOON Mike will hop on here to post about their day!!! (Hint, Hint MIKE!!!) Tom and I gathered our stuff, and headed back to the exit to hop on an OKW bus--Megs had calmed down, but wanted me to carry her out--so I did!

We didn't have to wait too long for an OKW bus--YEAH!!! Here's the two of them on the way back to OKW:

201.jpg

I'm sure you can see the exhaustion and fatigue in her face! Once we made it back, we all settled in for a long nap--3 hour LONG nap!!!! It was splendidly WONDERFUL!!!! Tom woke me up after getting his shower and getting ready around 6pm, so I hopped in the shower and got ready as well. Once we were both ready, we woke the sleeping beauty and got her dressed! She looked 100% better--so I knew it would be a great night!!! Since we were having dinner that night at AKL, our plan was to take the first park bus we saw, and then catch an AKL bus from that point. When we got down to our bus stop, an AK bus was just pulling in---SCORE! We hopped on, and headed over to AK--once we pulled in, we looked for the AKL stop--which was right next to where our bus stopped! We hopped off, went to AKL's queue, and what do you know, an AKL bus pulled up immediately--DOUBLE SCORE!!! After a quick ride over, we were quickly walking through the entrance doors into this:

205.jpg

206.jpg

BEAUTIFUL isn't it!!!! We quickly found some of my family members who were lounging in the lobby--the others were out looking at the animals on the savana!

Here's Megan in her Tink dress that my Mom had made her:

204.jpg

Can you tell the difference a 3 hour nap can make?!??!!

207-1.jpg

My Mom surprised her with her own lanyard--she was excited!!! That is her new duck/goose (we can't tell) that she named "Potato!"

208.jpg

We waited for a few moments in the lobby--catching up on all they did that afternoon--Dad riding EE, another family trip on Kali where Conner and Dad got it again, a memorable viewing of Nemo, etc.----really hope Mike fills you all in on that! Before we knew it, it was our turn to head on down to Boma for dinner----we couldn't wait!

210-1.jpg

They had plenty for picky eaters/kids to choose from!!!

Tom's dessert plate--that brown stuff was this really rich and yummy chocolate mousse they had!! MMMMM GOOD!

211.jpg

Here's a picture from my dinner plate:

212.jpg

Didn't come out too clear--on the left was this DELICIOUS salmon that was too good for words! The African potatoes are good as well as the corn salad, but my favorite was the FuFu--that is the brown mush on the right side of my plate! It is a blend of mashed sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes--I am getting the recipe!! Too good!! I swore that I was going to remember all the names of everything, but there is seriously too much food to write down, and it ALL was good IMO!!! I know they rotate a lot of different things through here, but everything was worth at least one good try! Our server, KEVIN, was WONDERFUL!!! I highly recommend this place to anyone! Very good food! TOP OF THE LINE!

My dessert plate--couldn't pass up chocolate chip cookies!! The zebra dome was good, but I liked the pineapple upside down cheesecake the best! OH--almost forgot--try the carrot ginger soup--very good and sweet!

213.jpg

After filling ourselves to the rim with the yummy food from Boma, we once again headed back up here:

275.jpg

and then down to the buses. We decided to take a DTD bus, and then either catch the OKW bus back or the boat. Our driver Roger, took us all the way over to DTD, we stepped off the bus, and his sign immediately changed to OKW--we said "Roger, are you really going to OKW?" He said, "Yep--looks like it!" So we all hopped right back on!! What great bus luck we had this day! We all headed up for bed--even after a 3 hour nap, Megs was still done--it was passed her normal bed time! So away to dream land--we all wanted to get a good night's sleep, because the next day was the one we MOST looked forward to-----MAGIC KINGDOM!!!!

Will we make it to the opening show? Will the Dream Squad find us? Will I run into any DISfriends or familiar faces?????? Will we be stuck in lines all day long???? OOOOOOOHHHHHHHH!!!! The suspense is killing you right?????? Just make sure you bring your tissues for the next one! ;) ;) Talk soon, Jen

I'm first!!

What a fun day and dinner! Y'all are such great parents! I could definitely see how Megs was at her breaking point, in that picture. I think you did the right thing in going back to OKW.

How perfect did those buses work for you! man oh man I hope I have that luck this year!

and I must say...Lucky Lucky Lucky you! But poor Your dad and Connor! That sounds like me and Mike last year. :lmao:

Thankfully, that hot weather is good for something! ;)

I'm so sorry about the stink the CM made over the orange bracelet... but that post-3 hour nap picture is PRICELESS!
