Molly & McGee are back! 4 eggs!

What a beautiful owl, sleeping. ;) You can see her breathing. I noticed on the right corner there is a link for other animal cams and a couple are still active. Thanks for the link. :thumbsup2

Yay, yay, yay!!!!!!!!

Earlier today I was going to delete Molly's ustream link from my favorites list. Before deleting the link I was going to check in one more time to see if any of the die-hards were still on there conversing, but my computer was running slow, so I never clicked the link and never deleted it, either.

Thanks for the update!!!!!!!

I tuned in, expecting to see some action (much like the eagle cam), forgetting owls are nocturnal.

Guess I'll have to tune in later this evening. :)

About a month ago my son was at a party and heard a weird screech noise out on the street. It was a baby owl. It kept hopping into the road, which is one of the busiest streets in Bridgeport.
He called me and asked what to do and I told him just watch that it doesn't get hit and wait for it's mother to come and help it. he sat there for almost 3 hours and nothing, he did have to herd it back to the sidewalk a few times but stayed away from it so the mother wouldn't feel threatened.
Finally he put it in a box and brought it home. The next day we took it to the audobon society who refused it. They gave us the name of two people who rescue birds but all refused the owl. One did tell him what to do to care for it, raw meat 4 times a day. Owls don't drink fluids, they get their fluid from the blood in meat. AFTER a few weeks he started with crickets in the big box then mice, and the owl learned how to chase the bug and mouse and kill it and eat.
He took care of it for about a month and finally the owl could fly. He brought it back to where he found it and let it go. It flew up to the trees and we hope to it's mother. He was told that birds are not like some creatures, they don't have a good sense of smell and won't refuse their baby if it has been touched by humans. She said any bird can be put back in the nest and if it is healthy it will be cared for, if it is sickly the mother will toss it out again.
the lady who told him what to do suggested this and said at this point the owl could take care of itself.
I will have to get him to watch the video to see what the mom does to train her babies since he did roughly the same thing.

My other favorite is the Live Florida Cam. You see bears, pigs, turkeys, possums, raccoons, deer, flying squirrels, etc...

I love to watch the raccoons. They come out later and eat the marshmallows and peanut butter. Not as many as there use to be 4 months ago. At one time there would be around 18 of them!

Many kudos to your DS for taking care of that baby owl. :thumbsup2 It will take a few weeks for the eggs to hatch, but then it gets exciting. With the first clutch, McGee would come bring food (usually a mouse) for Molly at night while she sat on the eggs and then while she sat on the newly hatched babies to keep them warm.

The eggs hatched on different dates. When they were tiny, Molly (the mother owl) would tear off bits of the meat and put it in the owlets' mouths. As the babies got bigger, Molly would dangle a large piece of meat in front of one of the babies and teach the baby owl to grab the food with its beak. It was really interesting to watch. As the owls grew, they'd swallow the prey whole.

Sometimes McGee (the daddy owl) would bring back larger rodents and rabbits. One time a rabbit was still alive and Molly had to kill it. Another time a mouse was alive and ran off. As the owlets grew, the nightly feedings were very frequent -- around 10 times per night you could see McGee fly in with food because an extra camera was set up outside of the owlbox.

Then, one by one, the owlets fledged, learn to fly and were out on their own. Nothing much happens during the day. The action is/was all at night. Not too much will happen until the eggs hatch.
