Just got a call and she said it was "horrible" but she did it! And sounds like a very good time too!! She needs to "thaw" and then will be on her way home.

She will post later with the details - but I just wanted to let you know that your prayers and PD made it to her

Yeah! Molli

I can't wait to hear the details!!! Thanks for the quick update!

Sunny

thank you thank you for all your :wizard: and prayers and please know that I thought of my WISH buddies often!!!

well, let's just say :umbrella: and :cold: :cold:

I got up about 6:30 and turned on the news/checked website just to make sure the event was still on --- I can laugh about that now but lying in bed at 4:30 this morning I thought how on earth with they keep the water stations from blowing away??? so that's why I was on my pc this morning -- I did drink a gatorade first thing, got dressed, talked with DH and just more or less knew in my heart of hearts if I didn't try i would always feel let down with myself, i'm not a quitter you know ;) let down b/c who knew if I didn't go maybe the wind wasn't so bad there; maybe the storm would blow over. i mean heck, the event was in Downtown columbus about 35 miles away. So i went, got there a bit too early, but got good parking and pinned my BIB on, etc in the car. Even played a few games on my phone. And yes, I'm still drinking gatorade and ate a Balance bar two hours prior to start time. I got out about 1/2 prior to start to find a port-a-potty and ran into the Columbus Dispatch newspaper photogapher that was to meet our Momstyle team for a picture. There was only 5 of 13 that showed up! I'll have to check my email later to see how many of us actually did it - some registered for the 5k and quite frankly i'd have stayed home for that! Anyhow, made my way to the start and already my hands are freezing. Mind you it's snowing, blowing and downright COLD! I think i crossed the start about 2 mins into the race and just headed into it. The first couple miles were a usual 'warm-up' feeling for me, but I really struggled through miles 3 - 6. My shoes were already squishy at mile 3 and my foot was hurting, i think my shoe may have been tied a hair too tight, we'lll see if a bruise pops up. Anyhoo -- I kept thinking OHMYGOSH it's only mile 3 and i'm miserable -- i have 9 miles, more than 2 hours to go!!! I remember grabbing a water about mile 4.5 and asking the volunteer what mile was it? he didn't know, "I think maybe mile 3?" i said "NO WAY!" and just plunged forward. I believe this was at the begining of about a 4 miles strech on High Street (which is the heart of downtown, leads into the OSU campus area) and literally walked against the wind the entire stretch. Just before mile 6 there was a slight hill (less steep then Comtemporary but longer) and i thought it was a flat course. Just not prepared mentally for walking uphill, into the wind and snow I guess. But thankfully at the top of the hill another gal turned to me and commented on the hill and we started chatting. She had a 'thing' to run past the mile markers, well jog past them, so I jogged with her and we continued chatting. I really believe that was an answered prayer, i needed a buddy! (contrary to Mom's posting on the other thread, she didn't realize that my neighbor did NOT register with me) She needed a buddy too and we both said "thank goodness for someone to talk with!" and i know we kept each other going. Thank you Keri Ann, nice to meet you and talk! Anyhoo -- we continued and she was timing each mile (hence the jog approach) and we averaged about 14:10 miles, actually did one mile just under 14 mins. She got a second wind at mile 12 and I bid her a "You Go Girl!" and she :moped: At mile 12 I was pumped to finish, very very :cold: :cold: but pumped. I jogged a tiny bit down a slope and then jogged from mile 13 to the finish -- gotta have a running-look picture this time. After crossing the first mat and approaching the finish the was an announcer calling out like "and finishing now is Molli Marshall from Marysville, Ohio........" that was kinda cool. I shuttled through the chute, got a banana and a water, and a PENGUIN MEDAL (let the volunteer clip my championchip off b/c no way could I bend down!) and headed to my van. and literally I could barely turn the key in my ignition my hands were sooooo very :cold: :cold: and swollen. I was soaked to the bone. I did it and i'm proud I did -- but never will I go that distance in that weather again!!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:
Congratulations Molli!
You are one amazing woman to have done that in such awful weather. We were having the same type of weather here, and I was so glad that I didn't have to go anywhere today. I am so proud of you!
Nancy

:thewave: :thewave: :thewave:

CONGRATS, Molli !!! What an awesome accomplishment on such a rotten day for a race. I'm really, really proud of you ! There is no way I could have driven myself home after doing a 1/2 in such miserable weather. I guess the good thing about the weather might be that it probably wasn't as :crowded: throughout the race as Disney was! :teeth: Although a little "closeness" in the cold might not have been a bad thing!

Great job!

MaryLiz

Congrats Molli!!! Awesome job persevering under nasty conditions.

Hi Molli,

Boy I thought about you all day. I saw the news this morning and there was rain up and down the entire eastern seaboard and they even mentioned Ohio. I thought, OMG poor Molli. I am just so proud of you. You did an amazing job. I keep thinking if that was me in 2 weeks and it rained like it did today, would I still do it or decide to Opt out? I'm not sure. I'm a wimp in bad weather and I just don't know if I could do 13 miles in the miserable weather. You so ROCK!!!

I hope your all dry and warm now. :sunny: :sunny: You are definately an inspiration and while I was dreading my 8.5 mile walk today knowing you were doing your marathon got me on the TM.

Congrats for doing what I am not sure I would have done in your situation!! You are amazing!

:cheer2: Awesome job, Molli! We are SO proud of you! :cheer2:

Here's hoping that you are thawed, warmed, fed and 'watered'.

Molli!!! All I can say is.............

YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!

That is an awesome accomplishment even in nice weather, much less in the cold, wind, rain, & snow! You are an amazing lady!!! :jumping1:

WAY TO GO MOLLI!!!!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!

Wow!! What a race!! I am so glad you go through it!! I am for certain I would have never made it! I wimped out of just walking yesterday as it was so windy here....no snow or rain in site!!!

You must be SO proud of yourself!! Can't wait to see the pics and the medal!! I was on pins and needles reading your story......and sent LOTS of good thoughts out yesterday...but WOW!!! What a story!! And you did it!! What an inspirtation!! So glad to hear you made it through!! Keep up the great work!!

Hope you are nice and warm and don't hurt too bad today!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Whoo hoo! Yeah, Molli!!

Molli, all I can say is WOW! You did it under the worst of conditions. You brought back memories for me. I attended OSU and remember High street well!!!! I'm so glad you made it. What an awsome accomplishment!!!!!

Sunny

Molli, I am SO excited for you! I hadn't taken the time to read about you and your preparation for this marathon before this thread. However, I feel that I must say that your recount of the marathon is absolutely terrific! I felt like I was right there with you....except that I was warmer, dryer, and way more comfortable than you were ;). You had me in tears as you crossed that finish line. How AWESOME that must have felt!!

It's experiences like yours that motivate me! You TRULY ARE my hero! :goodvibes

WAY TO GO!!! :cheer2:

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:  you guys are the best -- i'm still a bit :cloud9: today on pride of making it through the event -- there is an article in the Columbus Dispatch that winds reached 38 mph yesterday and how the medical aids were not prepared for the folks needing blankets, etc. The weather here the past week had been beautiful and i think some participants didn't prepare thinking it really wouldn't be that bad. thanks for sharing in my emotions of the day -- it means alot to share with friends that really want to hear all about it!

i'm charging batteries for my camera and will post a medal pic later today :) i'll post my race pics when they are available to me

i loooked up my clocktime this morning (3:07:27) and there was definately a BIG advantage to the lack of people on the course. I tell you at times I felt like I was the last of the pack, but i knew i had passed some people. I even called out to one cheerer "Am I the last one??" and he called back "Nope and you're doing great!" cheers like that kept me going. I see now why people come out to cheer, they understand the value and power in it.

the difference in my time from this one and Disney was #1 the crowds and also I didn't stop for a potty break. I don't even remember seeing port-a-potties; they were probably there but it would've been impossible to peel off my layers, potty and then repeel them back one. the thought of it was just too much. I grabbed a drink at probably every other station instead of everystation in WDW. the crowds were definately the biggest factor

today i'm fine :cool1: i have a few spots in my legs that call out every now and then, my shins and hammies; but remember I did NOTHING for two days prior to the 1/2 and it was hard to stretch/warm-up in the snow! I felt like I went out there cold turkey after lying in bed for 36 hours. not literally but you know what I mean.

it's 11:15 and i'm still in my jammies :rolleyes1

Way to go Molli! I am so proud of you! Rest today and stay warm! I can't wait to see a picture of you with your medal! :cheer2:

Here is the medal -- not sure why my back picture isn't as clear but it says "The miracle isn't that I finished............The miracle is that I had the courage to start" for those of us familiar with John Bingham but that motto was very true for all 2400 some-odd number of finishers yesterday

and the front looks much clearer

Molli Molli Molli!!! I feel like you deserve for all of us to fly up to just give you a hug!!! Being that cold and wet would make me nauseous!!! Too bad folks couldn't throw you a dry set of clothes every mile marker! BUT......

YOU DID IT!!!!

 :jumping1:  :jumping1:

I can't wait to see pictures of you like a poor little cold puppy!!! But underneath that wet exterior (frozen maybe!) those little muscles did their job and all your hard work paid off!!!

I'm sooo proud of you and sooo inspired by you!!!

Tara

Molli, I love the medal. It's so cute! Tell me, were there any totally walking half marathoners? Or was everyone doing a run/walk pace? Congrats again! You dun good, girl!
