Ok all my park veteran friends - does moleskin help if you've already got a blister or does it only help preventively?

(this has nothing to do with the parks - my husband has been trying to keep up with a neighbor who walks 5 miles everymorning and now his feet are killing him?)

Thanks.

I've used moleskin on blisters before (although I believe the package says not to do this .. call me a rebel). I found it does help to some extent, although it can be very painful to take off. Also, if the blister is on somewhere where the moleskin is likely to rub off (i.e. the back of your heel), I wouldn't recommend covering with moleskin since that's just one more source of friction.

On the balls/sides of my feet, I've had good luck with it, though.

As a Boy Scout parent, I believe they teach the boys to cut out a piece roughly the size of the blister and stick the moleskin on around the blister. Maybe I'm crazy. Now I'll have to talk to DS about this. :p

I've discovered 3 ways to use moleskin.

The first is putting it on hot spots before and sometimes after they develop...but BEFORE it's a blister.

The second way is on a blister BUT with something between the adhesive of the moleskin and the blister. A small bit of kleenex has usually been enough.

The third way, and one I rarely see mentioned is to use a piece of moleskin on the item that's causing the blister. I sometimes put a wide slice of moleskin across the top edge of shoes to soften the hard edge of the shoe. Works great!

Walking is such great exercise. It'd be a shame to stop just because of a silly ol' blister. ;)

If I get a water blister, I carefully insert a needle it the base of the blister to drain it, then I put a small piece of gauze between the blister and moleskin. The BSA handbook recomends cutting a hole in several layers of mole skin and build up the mole skin to the height of the blister, kinds like a donut with the hole being the blister.

Thanks alot - I'm going to get him some tomorrow!

BTW - MerryPoppins & eeyore kelly - Our neighbor is our local pack Cubmaster - my son is a Weeblos and is now looking at BS troops. My DH hated scouting when he was a kid but now thanks to my son & our neighbor has found a renewed interest in it - it's amazing what we'll do for our kids!
