Moisturizing, antibacterial hand soap?

I am in need of a really good moisturizing hand soap. One that is also antibacterial, preferably.

Anyone have any suggestions? This Bath & Body Works crap is useless! :rotfl2: My hands smell great, but they feel like sandpaper.

My only suggestion is not to use antibacterial soap at home.

I have gestational diabetes and was told specifically to use antibacterial soap to wash my hands before testing my blood four times a day. I have to use it those four times. I'm open to having another bottle of hand soap for the in-between times, but would rather not.

I could easily spend a small fortune trying out different soaps, so that is why I asked here. :goodvibes

"Moisturizing" and "Antibacterial" tend to be polar opposites when it comes to soap/hand gels/etc.
Softsoap makes one but again, I don't find it all that moisturizing. FWIW I also do not condone the use of antibacterial products unless there is a very specific reason.

Have you tried Gold Bond?

My mom (and sister who just passed) is a diabetic. She tests her sugar three to four times a day and gives herself insulin shots - 4 times a day. Her doctor has never mentioned this. Her doctor and a few nurses have also told her not to use alcohol when testing her sugar especial before giving herself insulin shots. The alcohol goes inside and it stings. She has been told that water is enough. Who knows, you hear something different from everyone all the time.

That's what I was afraid of.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

The endocrinologist specifically said antibacterial soap or an alcohol wipe. :confused3 I don't have to do insulin shots (keeping my fingers crossed that I won't have to, but my sugars have been great so far). I've seen so many different doctors lately, I'm going to ask the next time I'm front of one.

In any case, I didn't realize that Gold Bond made a hand soap. I've used their Ultimate line before...love the body powder!

Thank you.

The Gold Bond might be in two separate locations - one by the hand soap and another by the lotions. The all day insulin shots is a job in itself and it stinks. Long acting, short acting - given it 5/10 minutes before meals (hard to do the one time she is out to eat or at a family function.

Take care of it and have it under control. Good luck!

Sometimes I just wash my hands with the Dawn Antibacterial dishwashing liquid.

Can you just moisturize after you do blood testing?

I would use the alcohol prep pads. Cheaper , less harsh ( only a small area vs the whole hand) and easier to carry with you for those times you are checking your sugar levels and not at home.

I think Dial has one too, with aloe in it. Right now I have a few bottles of their winter scents from clearance, but I've never felt my hands feel like sandpaper from that. Softsoap is a little harsher on my hands, along with other off brands.

What about using dish soap? There's several of those that are focusing more on hand moisturizers and some of them are anti-bacterial.

Oh, I definitely do. I have to. This really wasn't about the blood testing, that's just the reason why I've been using the AB soap. Because I was told to. I wash my hands a lot while cooking (after handling meats and stuff) and while cleaning (which I am doing a lot of lately...strange for me haha) so using a lotion in the middle of those sort of chores is, I dunno...icky to me? Cutting raw carrots with lotiony hands. :rotfl2: Maybe I'm weird, or maybe I wash my hands too much. I'm generally not a germaphobe! :flower3:

Thanks! I'll check them out.

I would definitely go with thorough hand washing and alcohol wipes. There is a lot of bad stuff in a lot of antibacterial soaps.

I would seriously be afraid of passing this chemical onto my unborn child.

I Googled this after I started this thread. I had never heard of any of this. I would hate to think that the doctor would suggest I do something that could harm my baby. :scared1: I do keep a few alcohol wipes with me for when I'm not at home, so maybe I'll just switch to that full time. I'm going to discuss this with my usual doctor next visit, for sure. This thread has given me a lot to think about. ::yes::

I dunno, maybe my problem is the B&BW perfumey soaps. I don't use their lotion because I feel like it doesn't moisturize as well as what you find at the drugstore or Target. They just suck me in with those sales! :rolleyes1

Ditto this..check with your Dr but my DH is a Type II diabetic and I know he can use an alcohol prep pad prior to testing.

As a pp said.."moisturizing" and "antibacterial" are often polar opposites and the two don't come together. I don't like antibacterial products and don't use them in my home. I have eczema issues on my hands and even one application will make them start to crack/bleed. They are also so unnecessary and unhealthy for day to day use. (I get the testing need but think after talking to your Dr you might be able to address it with alcohol pads instead).
