Modifying reservation question

With so many unknowns with WDW/Florida I'm thinking we might do a Disneyland trip this year.

We are really flexible with dates, so I'm hoping we might be able to use DVC for a few nights at VGC (edit: GCH) (supplement the rest with an offsite hotel if necessary).

The only thing I'm concerned about, is I've been reading that if I switch my reservation at 7 months, people who own there still have the ability to book the rooms I booked for the nights that are not withing my 0-7 month booking window. What would happen in that case? Would my reservation be cancelled? That of course is 100% fair considering they own there but it does make me worry a little about modifying my own reservation and ending up with nothing.

Is this something that really happens and I should worry about?

TIA!

Not clear on what you are intending. The DVC Resort is referred to as VGC. GCH is the acronym for the hotel and to get a Disneyland Hotel you need to trade out your points through MS for the stay (which can be done more than 7-months out). Point-wise that would be a very costly trade-out.

If you mean you intend to get VGC at 7-months out, then, if you can actually get the nights you want at 7-months out, that reservation cannot be taken away by owners of the resort later reserving the room. Owners get to reserve VGC starting 11-months out. Discussions you see about owners being able to block your reservation are referring to owners of the resort reserving rooms for the nights you want before your 7-month window opens.

Thanks so much for your response. Yes I did mean VGC, I did edit my original post so thank you for that.

Thanks! I know this might not happen, but since I have so much flexibility during non-peak times it's possible.

So this means that if I book at 7 months out for three nights, my second two nights cannot be cancelled? That's great.

You may also have been seeing posts about walking a reservation at 7 months. A 7-month walk could be blocked by an owner booking dates later than what’s inside the 7-month window. But once you successfully book nights at 7 months, they’re yours and an owner cannot take them away from you.
