Modifying DVC Reservation

If I have a 6 night reservation and simply want to cut off a night (the first night), will that mess up the reservation? I remember something about the reservation being cancelled and then I'm back to Square One. Can I do online or must I call MS or

Anyone know the answer before I do something I'll regret.

You can modify the reservation online. Just choose the new dates and follow through to the end, It will update to what you want.
