Here's a thought I've been toying around with, though I'm not sure if it would work.
Let's say I own at SSR and BWV. I book a hard to get BWV studio at 11 months for 4 nights with my BWV points. Often these studios are sold out at exactly 7 months (plus a few days), but at 7 months +4 days there is sometimes availability.
Once I hit 7 months, I transfer some SSR points to my BWV contract with the intent of extending my stay. I know those transferred points may only be used for 7 month bookings at that point. But if I modified my existing reservation, it would be a 7-month booking. I'm essentially adding on to it once I hit 7 months, extending to day 5, 6, 7, etc. with the non-home resort points.
Maybe a hard-to-get BWV studio isn't a great example, as many of those are snatched up at 11 months and completely unavailable at 7. But there are several room categories that follow the availability pattern I'm describing at various times of the year. Would this be allowed? And if so, is the only risk assuming that availability will be there at 7 months + a few days?
Why would I care to do this? Depending on how many points I have at each resort I own at, it could be advantageous. I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a buying strategy, as there are no guarantees on availability... But it could get me to consider fewer points at an in-demand (i.e. more expensive) resort if I could transfer and extend in this way. Again, just a thought.
