Modify booking from one use year to another

I don't know how to even find/search for this in this forum so I'm posting this q.

Our circumstances changed, but we don't necessarily have to change our plans. It is more of a courtesy if we do.

My use year is August. I have a reservation for March 2019 using 2018 points but am considering moving out our trip to August 2019.

Do I need to cancel my current reservation, bank my points, then rebook for August or will the site do it for me if I modify my reservation? Or if I do it through the site, will it use my 2019 points forcing me to bank my 2018 to use in the 2019 use year? Does what I'm asking even make sense?

Assuming you have no plans for the 2018 points prior to 8/1/2019, my advice is to go ahead and modify (online) the March dates to your planned August 2019 dates. Pay special attention to the points the system wants to use for the new reservation. It should ask if you want to bank 2018 points to use them first. If it doesn't ask, I'd go ahead anyway and use the 2019 points. Then I'd bank the 2018 points (online) and try modifying the August 2019 reservation (to the same August 2019 dates) to see if the system will now use the 2018 banked points instead of the current 2019 points. If it doesn't I'd call MS and ask the CM to reallocate the points such that the August 2019 reservation uses the 2018 banked points.

Just take a minute to verify that the points are correct after you make the change. If not call MS right away, they can help fix any problem. Good luck and have a great trip.

Yes. MS can do it for you.

Although they will just do the same thing. Cancel the existing reservation and then book the new one.

I will...I prefer doing things myself versus having to call and waiting to speak to someone. Just wanted to know if it was any better speaking to someone *may* have given me a better chance of not screwing this up.

*sigh* here goes to me giving up a 1 bdr value at AKJ mid-March. Hopefully someone on here had it waitlisted and gets it.

When I cancelled, I didn't think to do this. I hit the "Search New" button that appeared after cancelling. After selecting the dates, resort, and room type I wanted it gave me the option to bank and use my 2018 points. It was pretty painless, but I was still nervous.

Also verified in the Vacation Points Overview screen that it used the 2018 points first before the 2019 points.
