Modfied Seating on FJ

I wonder how they were able to make this adjustment so quickly, given the many safety requirements for FJ. Also it is quite surprising to hear the failure rate decrease from dozens of arrests by the fat police to only one. That's gotta be one very forgiving "yellow light."

So excited to hear this! We're visiting in December with my Pooh-sized mother, who has been worrying about whether she'll be able to ride FJ. Just now I let her know about the modified restraints, via text.

Her response? "We'll don't that just make you want to redecorate your living room in Gryffindor colors and name your firstborn Neville Ronald Harry!"
Moms...

This is the real deal. I was there today, and there are indeed red, yellow and green lights on the test seats (I got yellow and green both lit at the same time - now that's special!). I just asked for the modified restraint line when I got to the inside seats, they just directed me to the correct line, didn't have me use the inside test seats.

It's true, it is the restraint that is modified, it's the seats on either end of the 4 seat bench, and not every set of benches has these modifications. There aren't signs that I saw indicating this change, but perhaps UO is trying to be at least moderately discrete. I wouldn't have known anything about the issue if I hadn't read it on the boards.

But, it's twue, it's twue!! :cool1:

This is great news! I was worried about fitting into the seats (as I've read about other's experiences, some days I'd think it wouldn't be a problem, and the next day I'd think there would be no chance). Now at least I know that there is an option for me.

This was me until I went to the test seats and was told to ask for a modified seat inside. It was great and I didn't really care that I had to sit in a special seat. I was just happy that I got the experience the ride, because I was quite scared that I wasn't going to be able to.

Maybe the restraints are there for safety reasons- a weight limit on the ride. Please consider this as a possibility; it does make sense.

Just saw this on the news this morning. This is wonderful. DH and I are going down the first weekend of October and were worried we wouldn't fit. Still concerned about DH but feeling better about the whole thing now.

That's exciting to hear! Hopefully I'll be able to ride when I go back next time. Guess the employee I spoke with there on 9/4 knew what he was talking about!

Hope I can make the yellow light next year. Lardius leviosa! :wizard:

I wish they could give us an approximate girth or weight limit so those of us who could be "borderline" could make a decision before we even get there.
Honestly, I have been working hard to slim down my "pooh" size and don't want to go through the potential embarassment - even with a modified restraint. I'd rather just tell my friends I don't want to ride than have a light show everyone I'm too big. ...
Anyone know of any guidelines?

There is a thread on this board that people have been giving their statistics and whether or not they could successfully ride. You can probably get some good pointers there.

For me, I'm 220 lb female, 5'3", 46 in bust, carry a fair amount of my weight in my tummy. On the test seat outside, I got the green and yellow lights at the same time. I asked to ride using the modified restraint, and it clicked several times - I don't know how many, just a bunch of "crunches" as I lowered it. I found it quite comfortable.

Hope that helps!

Just wanted to post that I rode in a modified seat today ( 9/16 ) . I did willingly sit in the test seat outside and the TM suggested I ask for the modified seat. Slightly embarassing but I am what I am. I didn't see what lights lit up because the sun was really bright. But I went up as a single rider and asked for a modified seat. The wait time posted was 40 minutes. I was off the ride within 20 minutes at most so for once, at this particular time, being fluffy was an advantage. :) The seat was very comfortable and the ride was awesome!

I am 5' 6" and weigh about 185. Measurements are 46/42/44. I was wearing a thin cotton dress.

Side note...if you have any bags on you, you will be asked to use one of the free lockers. They will not let you ride with bags, even small, slim ones. In the short time I was in line I saw 5 people sent back down to the lockers (given a pass to come right back up) or split up from their group to do a swap.

It depends on the type of bag apparently as I road many many times with a fanny pack. I did see people with camera bags turned down the lockers (also with a pass right back up), but I road with my fanny pack over and over. (Not modified though, regular sized)

Fanny packs are fine. Any other bag is considered a loose bag and is not allowed. When I was there a couple of weeks ago I saw tons of fanny packs able to get on, but even very tiny crossbody bags (smaller than the fanny packs) were not allowed.:confused3 One lady just ahead of me put her Vera Bradley crossbody mini hipster around her waist and then tied the long skinny strap in a knot, so it'd be tight around her waist. She was told that even worn that way, it did not make it a fanny pack and she had to go back down to put it in the lockers. It was smaller than most people's fanny packs.

This really surprises me, at your height and weight I would not think you would need a modified seat.

I am a solid ladies 14/16 and I was worried because of everything I had heard on the internet. I asked to sit in the test seat out front and the employee laughed at me. He said if I wasn't getting on nobody was! Is it sad that it made my day? :rotfl: My hubby is 5'10 and has a 44" waist (he carries almost all his weight there). He could fit in the regular seat but he said he felt like he couldn't breathe. He has huge shoulders so that might not have helped.

It seems like maybe 42" is the max for waist in the regular seats? I have a 40" bust and was very comfortable in the seat.

Yeah, just as a side note, the rule for bags is a pretty legitimate one. There's a couple reasons for them.

1). Safety. If you have a bag, and you're seated in those seats, the restraint can not hold you correctly because there will be a bag in your way.

2). Ride capacity. If you notice on Forbidden Journey, the ride vehicles never stop moving, ever. If you're fidgeting around, trying to get your bag to fit, or trying to stuff it between you and rider next to you, and you cause a delay, the ENTIRE platform will stop, all because of you. I know this is considered the "Me" generation, so I'm sure you wouldn't care, but think about the guests behind you who now have to wait longer because of you.

3). Lost articles. Team Members can NOT hold any loose articles for you, and you are NOT allowed to leave it anywhere except in a locker. Reasons? If a TM holds it for you, you get off the ride, check your bag, find $100 missing. You come back, claim the TM stole your money, big situation arises. Sometimes, people do this intentionally, and blame the TM of theft just to get the company to give them something. Also, if you leave it somewhere, and someone takes it, bigger situation.

4). Articles lost on ride. Lets say you do manage to get your expensive purse on the ride, and the ride does its normal movements, which causes the purse to fall from your seat, land on floor (which btw, is about a 15 foot drop from where your seat is) and all you stuff scatters everywhere. Then the vehicles behind you runs over everything, crunches phones, keys, wallets, credit card, cameras. You get off the ride wanting all those things back, which they will not get for you, because that would involve shutting down the entire ride, just for you. They say they'll get it at the end of the night. So the ride closes, the TM's walk the track, just for you, and the bring back everything you dropped, but it's in pieces. You then attempt to sue Universal, saying its their fault that you dropped everything. Major situation.

So, just follow the rules, and put it in a locker. :thumbsup2
