We are thinking of upgrading from Pop to either Cornando or Carribean Beach. What are the differences in the Values and Moderates? Are moderates worth the upgrade?

Personally, I was just as happy at Pop as I was at Caribbean Beach. I think the main difference for some people between value and moderate is that in moderate I believe you can have 5 people to a room and in value only 4. Caribbean Beach did have lovely theming though. I loved laying in the hammocks on the sand. Pop has very unique theming too. I guess it just depends on how much money you want to spend and what you want most out of your resort. If I spent more time at my resort, I would probably prefer moderate because the pool at CBR was awesome.

I just upgraded from Pop to CBR. I'm sharing a room with my 3 children under the age of 13. This way we get a little bit more room. The Values are 214 sq. feet and the Mod's are 340, and the amenities that it includes, I had to break down and upgrade!

I think so. The rooms are larger and the pools are nicer. However, the CBR pool is under renovation and may not be open during the time you are there. Both the CBR and Cornado layouts are very large and you could have quite the walk to the pool or the food court (though the values are large too). Look at the Port Orleans as well.

My family and I have stayed at POP and love it. When we are at Disney we just use the room to shower and sleep, that's it. We stayed at CBR last summer and hated it, it was too spread out. I definitely prefer POP over CBR.

A few things to consider
-Moderates have water slides, values do not (although their pools are well themed)
-Mods have a sit-down restaurant and counter service, values have a cafeteria
-The bus system is typically better at mods with much shorter lines
-Mods have hot tubs

We enjoy the mods for the reasons above, and because they just seem more relaxed. I don't think you can go horribly wrong either way, but just some things to consider.

Well, we will stay at a value (pop) for the first time in April. Last September we stayed at CBR and loved it! I like the fact it was spread out. Don't forget if you don't like to walk far they do have an internal resort bus. Then again if you don't like to walk far why on earth are you going to the world? :lmao: Anyway it was quiet, the village pools were not crowded, the main pool was crowded and the lifeguards were very strict. My wife went down the "slide" at the main pool with our 1 y/o dd, which is not much of a slide at all, and the life guard chastised her because only one person at a time could go down the slide. Like we are going to send a 1 y/o down the slide by herself! Anyway other than that it was great. I would love to stay there again but, we are not going in the off season this time so the money was more than we could afford. I hope you enjoy your stay at CBR and the world! :thumbsup2

We've always stayed at mods until last year when we spent a week at Pop and loved it. Many people will make the argument that rooms are smaller at the values and they're correct but for about the same amount of $$ you can book 2 rooms at the value and you'll get an extra bathroom!!! We have been very pleased with all of our hotel choices at WDW and it's really a matter of personal preference and desired theming. Our children are quite young (3,4 and 6), therefore, the absence of a waterslide and hot tub were not an issue. I also did not notice any difference in bus service but we traveled at a slow time.

I have a question..do the mods have a frig already in the room...or do you have to request one and hope its available?

thanks

Pop rooms are 260 sq. feet. I'm not sure, but I think all of the AS rooms are as well, except off course the ASMu suites. :thumbsup2

Mod rooms all have a fridge in them.

On our stay at CBR - granted it was in 2004, so things may have changed - we had to request a fridge. I also have to say that during that visit we split the stay between POP (because it was brand new and we wanted to try it) and CBR. The room at CBR was DEFINITELY bigger (we stayed in Jamaica and had a corner room). I actually think that in terms of open "useable" space the room at CBR was bigger than the room we had at the Beach Club. It may have been because it was a corner room - I'm not sure.

I stayed at Pop twice, loved it the first time, not so much the second. I am upgrading this year, and I asked the same question at the time. Everyone was very positive and said that the upgrade was worth it. A few of the reasons why I did was the pool with slide, refigerator and coffee pot, and to enjoy the beauty of the grounds. My first was for CBR, but we had to change the date to an earlier time and the pool would be closed, so I tried CSR but not available. So we will be staying at POFQ. I asked if it would be fine because I was a little unsure, but I also got positive response with that, and I now feel good about it. I want to be able to get up and have a cup of coffee in my room without having to walk to the food court, and that alone is worth the upgrade.:thumbsup2

Values:
1. smaller rooms
2. no refridgerator or coffee pot
3. no hot tubs
4. no pool slides
5. uncovered lines for the buses
6. lots of concrete
7. Pure Disney in their over the top theming

Moderates:
1. rooms bigger with double sinks (except CSR has only one sink)
2. refridgerators and coffee pots in room
3. hot tubs
4. pool slides and better themed pools
5. covered bus stops
6. lusher landscaping with lots of shrubs, fountains, etc
7. boat to DTD at POFQ and PORS
8. marina to rent ski raycers at PORS, CSR, and CBR
9. POFQ smallest resort on property=everything is close to food court and buses
10 more peaceful and quiet (more laid back atmosphere)
11. table service restaurants at all except POFQ (as well as CS)

Saying all that, I've stayed at all three levels of resorts and enjoyed every trip for different reasons. Values are fine, if you know what to expect and are reasonable in your expectations.

I like both, but for different reasons. First The values seem to have a buzz around them...they are fun. And I like the mods, a little less buzz, so It depends on my budget ... And wear my dh wants to stay. You can't go wrong with either one of them, just have an open mind.

I upgraded to Coronado Springs my last trip after staying at POP and ASMu, and I was thinking it was going to be great. It ended up being my least magical trip. I had a room as far away from the food court as you can get, the building layouts were confusing, the buses stop 4 times before going to the parks, adding on considerably more time to get to the parks, there are no queues at bus stops, so if there are a lot of people waiting it is like a stampede, the main pool was too far to make it worth walking to, and I didn't feel like I was at WDW.

So we are back at POP this coming trip. The extra space in the rooms, coffee maker, and fridge just was not worth it for me. But that is just my personal preference. I like the over the top theming and migraine inducing loudness of the Values.

I say upgrade, try it out, and see what you think!

Personally I think go big or go small. How much time are you spending at the resort? I prefer value or deluxe, not sure CBR is worht the extra $$, although it is nice. If you really want more room and "nicer" go to WL or AKL.

If it were me, I would definitely upgrage. We stayed at CBR for our honeymoon and loved it, then we stayed at ASMusic and eh, didn't really care for it. It was too loud and crazy and crowded. All we kept thinking was that we should have stayed at CBR. We finally went back to CBR in August and were very happy.

We JUST changed our reservations for April from POP to POFQ. We have stayed at values before, and LOVE them, BUT, seeing as that this will be our last trip for a bit, we decided to go back to a mod. Primary reasons:

Pool - Our DD loves slides, and we plan on spending a bit more time at the resort this trip, as we will be there over a week.

Room - The curtain and dual sinks are very nice, as are the slightly larger rooms. We also really get use out of the fridge and coffee maker. :)

General "feel" of the resort - While we have no real issues with the values, I have to admit that I do like the overall feel of the mods a bit better. We stayed at both Movies and CBR last year, and CBR gave us more of a resort\real vacation feel when we were there. The grounds, rooms, buildings, food court etc. just had a different look and feel.

In the end, being from the north east, a mod is still costing us less than a motel at the Jersey shore, LOL. This alone is reason for us to do the mods now. :goodvibes

On my trip a few years back I had to upgrade from a Value (Pop Century) to a Moderate (Port Orleans Riverside). We only did this because value hotels only accomodate 4 people to a room. We decided to take along one of my young nephews (4yr old at the time). That brought us to 5 people in our room so we had no choice but to go to a Moderate. I personally loved it and don't think I could book a value hotel after that visit. It was always my impression that the Value hotels always are busy with lots of kids. It's Disney - not like you are not going to see kids but the value hotels are the ones that usually are the accomodations for class trips, cheerleading competitions and other social group activities. Keep that in mind. And they all have that over the top theming. I loved POR - large property, quiet not a whole lot of hussle and bussle. Bus wait times were short under covered waiting areas. Loved the landscaping. If you can swing it, for the extra space alone i would go to a moderate.

We go with what suits our family
DW, DH, DD 4 and DD 2
believe me, I struggle with this!!
I do so want to try a moderate.. but just don't feel it fits our family. Our kids are not the biggest walkers on the planet.. they walk a lot, but nothing is like disney.. size wise.. and their legs get tired.. a stroller for each is a must when going to parks and we would prefer they walk around the resort.. so we go with Values... even then sometimes we bring a stroller to the playground or pool..
A sprawling resort with and internal bus sytem does not work for us. For their ages the pools and playground are perfect and close (food court too! I love the food court.. I can let the kids relax a bit for a meal there and it's quick, unlike the table service meals where they have to behave to a higher standard.. It gives them and me a chance to relax and eat. What we have done this yr is plan for two weeks instead of one since we save staying at a value and I justify not staying at a mod by staying longer. I do look forward to when we can stay at one, but really don't think it will happen for two more yrs. WHen we are stroller and diaper bag free.. I often forget things back in the room (sunblock, wipes etc) and like being able to get back quickly.
The biggest drawback is the fridge, but I did a swap last yr and hope it will still be going on when we return.. If not, for our lenght of stay (17 days) I will run out to wal mart and buy one, we always get a car..
Based on everyone's responses it seems like they both have advantages and disadvantages.. what matters is what's best for you..
good luck..
