Moderate vs. Deluxe. What are the Differences?

Whats the difference between a deluxe and moderate resort? I know the service is betterbut I am not sure what is meant by that. So far the only thing I can really notice is that their pools seem to be more extravagently themed, and same with the resort lobby. Can anyone shed some light on what the better service is supposed to be, or the normal differences? I have stayed at the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian before but seriously did not think the service was better than even the value resorts. Was this just a fluke?

Thanks in advance everyone!

Well there are a lot of differences but to name a few:

Deluxes have indoor coridors, room service, turn down service if you want it, sometimes special transportation ie:monorail resorts, and usually more resturant options :D

Others please feel free to add to the list.

the service is usually superb anywhere (coinsidentially the only bad resort service we had was at a moderate). Its more of services offered like valet parking and kids clubs at deluxes.

BAsed on my experience, I just dont get the moderates appeal. Having stayed at POR, WL, and ASM, I would tell you to stay at one of the allstars for super fun themeing (better than moderates) or upgrade to a delux for size and comfort..

The appeal of the deluxes, to me are room size/comfort and amenities. They usually have a better range of dinning, too.

Okay...here's my 2 cents...

I think one of the biggest appeal to the deluxes (aside from WL and AKL) is location. Of course, the deluxes have larger rooms than the moderates and, yes, they do have the indoor corridors.

As far as pools go, I don't think you can say they are more extravagant. YC/BC's Stormalong Bay is quite extravagant, but then, again, I have seen pictures of Coronado Springs' pool and that looks pretty nice itself.

One thing I have noticed, at least at the YC, is the lack of a food court type area. However, they have much more closer choices of sit-down restaurants.

To my family, I would choose a deluxe now for the location first. Having 2 boys with a baby girl on the way, we would either need 2 rooms at a value resort, 2 rooms or 1 room with a trundle at a moderate, or 1 room with with a daybed at a deluxe (not AKL or WL). The latter would probably suit our family at least until the kids all start getting bigger and need more privacy/room.

Hey thanks! What is a urndown service though?

Turn down service is when housekeeping comes to your room in the evening to freshen the place up. They turn down your bed, give you some extra towel, maybe empty the trash.

Deluxes have queen size beds and moderates have doubles.

Oh yeah...

Deluxes have balconies (at least most do) and moderates have windows.

I LOVE the amenities at the deluxes - room service, turndown service, balconies, larger rooms. The quality and service is just unbeatable!

However, I do think the moderates are quiter and seem a little more private just because they are more spread out and have exterior corridors (which I don't like in most cases - in fact WDW moderates are the only exterior corridor hotels I will stay in.)

One thing I love is bunk beds at the WL.
