moderate to value

We go back and forth all the time between POP and PORFQ. Depends on how many nights and the rate we can get as FL residents or AP holders.

We are staying at a value this trip over a moderate like we had originally intended to because on this particular trip I don't see us spending too much time in the hotel, since we will be attending MNSSHP and enjoying other things. That being said, I do like Moderates/Deluxes a bit more when we will be spending a lot of time at the resort. We adore POP though.

I foolishly thought 9 months was enough time to book the deluxe I previously dreamed about... Nope full.
We switched gears completely and reserved an AoA suite. My kids won't know the difference in pool, dining, proximity to monorail, etc. There is so much going on in the parks they will be totally distracted. The mental anguish was all in my mind. I stayed at GF when I was 8 and omg it was really boring to me. Everything was beige and looked old fashioned. (Yes, op, I realize you are considering the switch from mod to value but this is just an argument for comparison) My kids think sleeping overnight at the Hyatt for a wedding was the coolest thing in their life! If your goal is to save money by trying a value, there are so any factors to consider but no single person is correct except you. Just some bites to chew on. And if your family balks at the difference, pull one like me and say everything else was booked. He he he...

Yes we would and do lol. We love the moderates but when budget dictates we have no problem at all going value. In fact we just did four nights at All Star Music when we were supposed to be at Beach Club and we never even thought one time about how we were supposed to be at BC.

All Star Music and Pop are our two favorites but really any of them are fine by us.

My wife and I always stay at AS Music. We love the place. As for bus sharing-saw this topic in another post, the all stars DO NOT SHARE unless it is in the middle of the day when there are few to none standing in the line waiting. I like Music because of the 5 Values, they are the smallest in terms of number of rooms which means less people at the pool, less people on the bus, less people in the restaraunt, etc. We stayed at better but found that since we are at the parks most of the day, why are we spending all this money for a couple hours of sleep.

I've stayed at both and prefer the value to any other. The nightly rate difference doesn't justify itself. The rooms are the pretty much the same size.
If it was me, I would switch to the any of the values in a heartbeat.

All Stars. 3 food courts, 6 pools, only share busses in the middle of the day. Each of the All-Stars is smaller than Pop - less guests, less distance to the food courts, less people getting on the bus.

LOL I think I just posted the exact positive points. Don't forget you can use ALL the pools and food courts, so plenty of options AND photo ops lol.

Yes, we just did. After previously staying at POR (which we love) this year we needed to stick to a budget and as we missed the UK free dining we booked All Star Movies. We had a great time and didn't feel like we missed out on anything by booking a value, the room was fine we didn't really notice the smaller beds or room they aren't really that much smaller, pool was great (the kids never use the slide at POR as we always use the quiet pool there anyway). I think the kids actually enjoyed the resort more than they do at POR, it has more of a buzz to it.

To save money I would go with the value in a heartbeat and save for something else. I have always enjoyed my stay at AS Sports and going back there soon for a solo trip.

Although DH calls me spoiled, I would not go down to a value mostly because I find the transportation takes longer. This maybe a total perception on my part but it just seems like it takes longer to get anywhere.

I know I'm way different than the rest on this one...I love the moderates, even prefer Riverside to some of the deluxes. But if I'm trying to save some $, I'll stay offsite and rent a car vs. staying at the values.

We usually stay at one of our DVC resorts or a moderate to save on points. Last time I booked AoA. At first I thought wow what great value for money. Lovely room, clean fab bathroom, nice theme. Food court ok not my fav prefer the mods like POR. But the bit that got old soon was the distance from the Little Mermaid rooms to the main building. At AoA you cannot book a preferred room. At least you can at the other value resorts.

Anyway lf course I would stay at value if that was the top of my budget and be happy. But if I could squeeze a little more I would go moderate for the pool , distance to transport and bigger beds. POR are our fav. That boat to Disney Springs is a winner.

We also go back and forth between moderate and value, depending on the deal, how much time we are planning to spend at the resort versus the parks and whether we are paying for one or two rooms. It's Not really a big deal, we are at Disney so happy wherever we are!

Yes. Last year we stayed deluxe and this year we went value, which had me nervous that we'd spoiled ourselves. Not the case and I'd do it again. (Granted, they were entirely different styles of trips where we spent more time at the resort last year, but ASMu was great.) Our biggest concerns were size of beds, only one sink and size of room. Room was fine, we missed the double sinks, but no big deal. And we brought a tall blow up mattress for my 13yr son, so that helped with the double bed situation (sounds like too much trouble for some, but it was actually so easy). Book a preferred room and request ground floor close to food court/transportation and you will live a life of convenience. We actually had a corner room near what I suggested AND the parking lot. We could walk to our car in under 1 minute and the food court in about 3.

I have never had a resort stay at Disneyworld I haven't enjoyed, value, moderate or deluxe, I have liked them all!

If a value stay would allow an easier budget for dining and enjoying the trip I would do it in a heartbeat.

Thanks to all. I am following this thread with great interest. After staying at BC and Poly, I took the step, a little nervously, to moderate to save money. Now, after four lovely stays in the quaint little neighborhood known as POFQ  , I am planning next year to stay at POP to save more $$. I've visited and explored at POP and am actually looking forward to it. I'm a Theme Park Commando who needs only one bed and one sink, doesn't drink coffee or use the pools, and just wants a hot breakfast involving bacon from the food court, so I figure I should be fine.

For many, many years we always stayed at deluxe resorts, or a few offsite vacations at nice Marriott condos. Then after our last stay at the BWI one spring break, DD and I realized (that trip was just the two of us) that we didn't really take advantage of any of the resort amenities. We just used the room to sleep and shower, and had a room next to us that was so loud I actually had to call security twice late at night! Not the best stay really, and we both agreed it was a waste of money if we weren't using the pool slide, the pool bar, the restaurants, room service, etc... So we excitedly booked the next trip with free QSDP at Pop. We had never had QSDP or stayed at a value (or a moderate for that matter). We anticipated that trip, but also went in knowing it would be double beds not queen, and no coffee maker (fine I brought my own travel one). We had so much fun, that now it's our favorite place to stay at Disney for the two of us! For all 4 of us, it would be way too tight in one room, but for us two it is great.

I'm no longer such a hotel snob!

Go in with the right attitude and any place can be good.

We would not. It is our opinion that there is a large jump from the values to the moderates, especially when it comes to the things we value in a resort. We much prefer the moderates to the values. In fact, we'd be content not to stay in one again, but my daughter has her heart set on staying at a room in the 101 Dalmatians section of All Star Movies so we are staying there for 2 nights in December. If it weren't for that, I'm not sure we'd ever choose a value over mods or deluxes again.

I would do it. We switch back and forth, depending on the deal. And your "...we have stayed at all star movies and found the accommodations to be just fine..." tells me you would, also. ;)
