Hello,
I've been stalking the boards for a while trying to do preliminary research, but finally I'm ready to post! My in-law's have officially decided to head to Disney for their 40th anniversary! They haven't been in 15 years, but a lot has changed since then.

FIL has a bone marrow cancer, the treatment for this has left him immune-compromised and in frequent back pain. He's too proud to even consider a wheelchair or scooter, but rarely walks more than a mile or 2 (on the treadmill) in a day. He wants a hotel with a restaurant (especially for breakfast) and easy access to the bus-system/monorail/or boats.

Deluxe hotels are out of our budget, and value don't feel 'special' enough for an anniversary treat. I've narrowed the list to POFQ & POR, AoA suites, CS and possibly CBR.

If we don't get a suite, we'd try for two connecting rooms. We will probably stay 4nights and try to do 4-hours to a half day at each park.

Anyone in a similar situation have any advice on what might be good for him?

(I've got too many websites jumbled in my brain)

I would chose POFQ, it's small making it easy to get to the food court and bus stop and you can take a boat to downtown. Also, Elliot Dyson does a show there that is very good.

Definitely POFQ. It's so small that everything you need is a short walk. Also, it tends to be on the quieter side than some other resorts, so it's great if you need to rest during the day.

(That said - I'd still see if I could gently work on softening his attitude a bit about using some kind of assistive device. A fun vacation makes much better memories than a proud one!)

Agree:thumbsup2

I would rent DVC points to stay at bay lake or grand floridian. I think you will find, especially if it is a lower season and you go with bay lake (if available) that it will cost about the same or even less than a moderate at 12$ per point and be so much more special. Perhaps Board walk villas or beach club if they like epcot. I would really look into renting points. My brother is renting enough points for 5 nights at AKL from me for 10$ per point and it is costing him 860$... that is the same as a value resort for his nights. You can often rent on the rent/trade boards here for 12$ per point or from davids for 14$ per point.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal, but I don't think I know anyone with DVC :/

Head over to the rent/trade board in the dvc section you'll be able to find someone there.
