I have a question for everybody. We are going to be staying on-site from Dec 3-11 for the first time. I currently have a reservation at the Pop (perferred room) but was thinking about upgrading to a mod resort . Can anyone give me their opinion on which one? Stay at the pop or upgrade to the mod? Also, which mod is better? Thanks for all your help...

Counting down to my 7th trip to Disney!!!!

Well it really depends on how much time you will be in your room and what type of enviornment you enjoy.

If you have a small child and will want to take a break in the afternoon, I would suggest going to a Mod b/c they tend to be less noisy (IMO).

If you would prefer a more relaxed envoirnment and some pleasurable surroundings, I would also go with the Mod.

If all you plan to do is sleep in your room, then stick with the Value.
I have been to Pop and it was fun, but I have also been to Riverside-and I loved every second of that resort.

So it just depends on what your planning on doing while at the resort.

If you decide to go Mod-my vote goes to Riverside.

You are going to get 4 different answers to that question because there are 4 different Moderates. I think if you have the money, it is worth upgrading to a moderate. Now which moderate? Quick answer: Port Orleans Riverside.

Long answer: You need to decide if you want to stay at a resort with an Carribean Island feel, Southwestern Feel, New Orleans/Mardi Gras feel, or Southern Country/Riverside feel. Once you decide which theme you want, you have your answer.

There are some advantages to certain ones:

Port Orleans Riverside has a boat to downtown disney and horse-drawn carriage rides around the resort, plus you can walk to French Quarter.

French Quarter is very small, you can walk to Riverside, and privacy curtains in the rooms.

Coronade Springs has a direct bus to the Boardwalk and a health club.

Caribbean Beach has the privacy curtains in the rooms.

That's my opinions. You'll get alot of other ones.

Good luck deciding.

Thanks for the answers. It is only going to be a girls only trip for me and my friend (we are both in our early 30's) and probably will only be in the room to sleep and relax after the parks close. I also think for the first time we are going to use the Disney transportation system instead of drving the rental everyday. The cost is not a factor for this trip (I am estimating a difference of about $200-$250 for the two different hotels for the entire trip. I really appreciate all the help.

Coronado Springs has a direct bus to the Boardwalk
not any more. I wish they would bring it back. CSR has the best pool of all the mods and terrific transportation. It is not shared with any other resort.

I have to agree with schwaa. Definately go for a Moderate if money isn't an issue. The theming of the Moderates is SOOO much better than that of the Values. That equates to much better Disney "magic" (IMO).

My personal favorite of the Moderates is the original -- Caribbean Beach. The variety of pools, the landscaping, the architecture and all of the beaches really give you that "vacation" (get-away-from-it-all) feeling. The rooms are also brighter and cheerier than the other Moderates.

My second choice would be Port Orleans - Riverside and
My third choice would be Port Orleans - French Quarter.

Just my opinion.

We stayed at CBR for our honeymoon in 2002, but since then we have always stayed at the ASMu which suits us just fine as we are only ever there to sleep. We prefer to use the money that we saved on staying in a value resort on something else, such as a character meal or dinner show. Even though you say money is not an issue, I would go with the value resort.

As always it depends on what you are looking for, but personally, Id go for the value. We stayed at POR twice and then ASMO 3x. After staying at ASMO Id have a hard time going back to a moderate. For what Im looking for there are no advantages in a moderate over a value.

Another vote for CBR! You will love the tropical theming and colors. The pools are also very nice and Shutters - the sit-down restaurant is very good.

I also agree to go Moderate especially since you'll be there during some of the youth groups, (cheerleaders and/or football) I think. At least we were in Dec 2002. We've stayed at Mods while groups were there and at the All-Stars with the same type groups. The mods were MUCH quieter and had so much less chaos. Don't get me wrong, the kids were fine for the most part -some foul language, a fair amount of horseplay and lots of LOUD voices. We didn't like having to step off the sidewalks or risk being runover or waiting in hugh lines at the food court. The running back and forth in front of our room and a few crank calls put us off the Value resorts during youth group times.

My vote for favorite Mod is PO-FQ. The size is wonderful, the atmosphere is fantastic, we love that hot tub, the walk to PO-R is great, the boat to Downtown is such fun. If they haven't changed things you're first on and first off the FQ-R busses too which was a BIG plus to us. And it's just been rehabbed so it should still be looking great when you arrive.

I have a girls trip planned with 7 others in October and we're doing PO-FQ!

But in truth any Disney resort should serve you well. You'll be there with a friend and the holiday celebration will be in full swing. Lucky you!

This is exactly why we switched from POP to Riverside for our upcoming trip in May. Our DD will be just 13 months and will need some quiet breaks from the theme parks. So I agree, if you have a small child, go for the moderate. I love the All Stars and probably would of liked POP as well if it was just DH but we felt a moderate was better for our DD.

I am willing to pay extra for the moderate for a few reasons:

1) My husband & I are not so hot on the big, in your face themes of the values. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE Disney, but I have my limits. ;) My husband is not as much of a fan as I & it would drive him crazy.
2) The mods have hot tubs :teeth:
3) The mods have pool slides (I have two kids)

But you need to decide what works for you. Hey! It's Disney World. You'll have a great time no matter what you pick!
