Moderate discounts during Christmas or New Years week?

What kind of discounts or promotions are offered during Christmas break? We’ve never been anytime except in the heat of the summer. (Frequently during July 4th week.) Will it be the same size crowds? Will we like it then?

Free dining is bookable right now til July 7th for check in dates as late as December 23rd for stays up to two weeks.

I can't imagine Disney would discount anything over Christmas break. They don't have to.

This is the only deal that will be available if you can take advantage of it. It will be the most crowded time of the year by far(think park closures at varying levels, especially on Christmas and NYE) so you have to be prepared for that. But since you have been before at a busy time and if you have a good plan and reasonable expectations, take advantage of going early to the parks, and set up FP at 60 days you can definitely manage it. It is our favorite season to visit - the decorations are beautiful, especially the castle lights, and giant gingerbread house at GF.

That said, if you can go earlier in the season it is less crowded, even the week before, you will be in a better situation. If you decide to try and get a free dining reservation, make sure to get your dining reservations set up at 180 days, which would be coming up in late June!

The week you have chosen is extremely crowded. The discount won't matter if that is a factor to you.

Unless you can squeak in just before Christmas you're not gonna find any discounts.
Between Christmas Eve and New Years Day is the most crowded time of the entire year and Disney along with any other theme parks/hotels in the central Florida area have ZERO problem filling up during that time of year.
Prices are usually at their peak.
And there are likely to be phased closings of the parks.

I remember back in 2009 when we went during Christmas and NYE they offered a $1000 gift card for $700 for use in the parks, but no actual discounts.

You won't find a discount. We've been going since 2009 and are yet to find one. We didn't find a deal until we went through a TA this year. Now we're kicking ourselves like "why didn't we do this sooner?!"

I'd throw this idea out there: the Disney Visa card offers interest-free financing on Disney World vacation purchases for 6 months. We save up some money in the months before the trip... after the trip we pay it off over 6 months. You need to be very diligent, but it's much more palatable than seeing $8k come out of your wallet right away.

Just to clarify. FD is available until January 6th if you’re checking in on Dec. 23rd.

Some people’s Christmas breaks start even earlier than the 23rd, so there are several fd check in dates that will offer fd over their breaks.

I believe the 6 month countdown starts the day the charge is applied to the Disney Visa. So the $200 initial payment has 6 months, then every other transaction to Disney has 6 months when charged.
