Moderate bedroom arrangements

Hi,

I'm starting planning early for a trip in July 2009 (direct flights from Glasgow sell out really quickly!)

I'm reckoning on a moderate grade hotel, but by then my DD will be 10 and my DS8. And by that time I reckon they'll be a little old to be sharing a bed...

So, can you book moderate rooms that have one double and two single beds?

Also, one of my standout memories from being at WDW a couple of years ago was the kids complaining that every meal had chips (French Fries) with it. Are there any recommendations for hotels that have restaurants which serve... well... salads and stuff?

regards,
/alan

The only moderate with 3 beds is PO Riverside, Alligator Bayou section. There are 2 double beds and a trundle bed, which is a small bed that goes underneath one of the doubles. Another option would be to bring an aero bed.

Also, at the moderate resorts you can pay for a cot (folding bed) to be brought in. There's a nightly fee for this. I think it's around $20 per night, although it may be $15 or $25, sorry I don't remember, and it may have changed since I last checked.

The only resorts that offer a queen bed plus 2 single beds are the Wilderness Lodge and the Animal Kingdom Lodge, and even with those you would have to be sure to specifically book a "bunk bed room" to be sure you'll get the bunk beds.

Have a great trip :)

Another solution might be 2 rooms (connecting) at a value resort. Having 2 bathrooms can be really handy.

Thanks for the answers, and the suggestions. It's always good to know the options.

It surprises me that Disney - of all organisations - wouldn't have the rooms set up for mum, dad and two kids. But I guess they know a LOT more about running hotels than I do :)

PS I well understand your comment about two bathrooms :D

Kids complaining about french fries!?!? I have never heard of such a thing! It's like a major food group over here.

Seriously, I am pretty sure all the counter services eateries have salads and/or fruit that you can get with your meal.

And as the others have said, unless you pack and air mattress (aero bed) or rent a rollaway, the kids will have to sleep together at the moderates.

Have you considered the All Star suites which are a combo of two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a small wet area for fridge?

Most US hotel rooms are either two doubles, 2 queens or a king bed there are never any single beds as standard, the only additional single type bed is the rollaway which comes at a supplement.

There are 3 other, more expensive options.
1) All Stars Family Suites which sleep 6 total. This is a 2 room suite at the Value All Stars which is actually 2 rooms combined. You have a bedroom with a Queen size bed, a TV, a Chair as well as a separate Living Area. The LR has a double sleep sofa, a chair and an ottoman which each convert to a single bed - so a total of 4 in this room. It includes a kitchenette with an undercounter refrigerator and 2 full bathrooms.
2) Fort Wilderness Cabins which also sleep 6 total. The bedroom has a double size bed and a set of bunik beds. The Living Room has a double size Murphy bed (Pull down from the wall at night). It includes a Fully stocked, full size kitchen with a full size refrigerator, a stove, a dishwasher, pots and pans, dishes and glassware etc. and one bathroom. We loved it here when the kids were younger.
3) A Disney Deluxe hotel. These will sleep 5 plus one under 3 in a crib. The bedding is 2 Queen size beds, and a "Day Bed" which is good for a child. This is your most expensive option, but it comes with all of the amenities of a Deluxe Resort.
Have a Great Time Planning

Sounds like a good set of things to think about. Thanks very much for the replies; you'll probably see me around here a fair bit as I dig more (I normally hang around over in the photography section!)

DS and DD won't sleep in the same bed either. DH usually sleeps with DS and I usually sleep with DD. Staying at WL this year. Hoping for an upgrade to Bunk Bed room.:wizard:

You can fit a roll-a-way bed at CSR or an aero bed. Either between the two beds or by the door.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work well with a weight limit of 20kg per person :)

I think most families in your situation would have the two adults split up. or maybe do the cot thing.

There are also cabins at Ft wilderness that might work well. I think they have bunk beds, too. they also have some cooking arrangements.

There's also the home away from home resorts that have extra speace, but you'll pay for it.

Otherwise, the Vistana is pretty close, and rooms are HUGE.

there's also the family suites at the Nickelodeon hotel that I'm pretty sure are set upthe way you'd like. They have an AWESOME waterpark set up and are also very close to WDW.

You can book a bunk bed room if you really want one it is a few more $ than a regular room but at least you know you will be getting it. Hoping for an upgrade upon arrival, even if you pay, is a chance you take.

Family Suite info:

DH and I stayed in a Family Suite at All Star Music ( a value resort) in Sept. of 2006.

We really enjoyed the Queen size bed, the kitchenette with the microwave, having a sofa and cushioned chair to sit on and relax after a day at the parks before retiring for the evening.

I thought the pullouts very comfortable.

They are designed so the back cushion and seat cushion of the pullout support the pullout. There is no metal bar to hurt the sleepers back.

They have a stap and with a gental one handed pull they open right up. They also fold very easily.

Note:

Mousekeeping will make up the each day and close them for you.
If you decide to close them in the morning to make more room--mousekeeping will pull them back out to make them up and then close them back up.up.

Info thread--Pullouts in Family Suites at ASMU with photos of how the pullout is supported.

The family suites look pretty good... I'm trying to work out whether I can get those through Virgin Holidays from the UK, or whether I need to book individual components (flight, accommodation, etc) separately

When we stayed at CBR once there was my motherwho had one bed, my daughter and I who shared a bed, but that left my brother bedless. We rented a roll a way bed. It was very confortable, there was plenty of room for it and it stowed away nicely during the day. Three adults, one 12 year old and a roll a way and yet we did not feel crowded at all.The rooms at CBR are larger then the rooms at the other mods.

At counter-service restaurants throughout all of WDW, it is standard that you can substitute grapes and a little bag of baby carrots (BOTH, not a choice between one and the other) for french fries.

We did this all the time.

In addition, if you know where to look, WDW offers a great variety of yummy and fresh healthy foods at counter-service locations.

Can you get roll away beds at all mod's? I have a DD with epilepsy and the other DD gets nervous sleeping with her, so this might be an option.
