I'am travelling to WDW in Oct with DMIL (60) and she has some health issues. She had Gastric By-pass surgery two years ago with some complications. Her surgery did allow her to lose wieght however the complications and other issuse like Mini-strokes and water build up in her lungs causes her to tire very fast. However she does recover fast. She allready accepts the fact she can't do the "thrill rides" so she be sitting a lot waiting/recovering for us.
She thinks with all the sitting/recovering she be able to "keep up" Should allow her try?(Always knowning we can get a wheelchair/ECV at the park) My feeling is let her try maybe at smaller parks(MK,MGM) and get a wheelchair/ECV at larger parks(EPcot,AK)

What your advice?

Is it just you and your husband or do you have children that will also be on this trip? How old are the children?

An ECV would probably make things SO much easier on you all. I am 60 years old without the problems of your MIL, but I would not want to be trying to keep up with an active on the go family even with waiting at rides. October lines should not be really, really long anyway.

I went two years ago and one of the group was a woman a couple of years younger than me. She was not used to the walking and was just miserable even though we really slowed down and rested often. Even at AKL she did not want to go past the Safari. We only did part of MGM too. MK and EPCOT were just insurmountable. And this was a woman with no particular health problems, she just didn't have a lot of stamina because she was not used to walking so much.

There's a lot of distance to cover and it does not sound like your MIL is up to walking for miles and miles even with multiple rests. Just getting in from the parking lot can take a lot out of someone who is not used to being active.
