Can anyone help with a couple of questions...I want to take my mobile phone to orlando just in case of the car breaking down etc. What to I need to make it work in the usa, sim cards etc?

Also is there a web site where I can find out the times of shows, fireworks etc at the parks?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to get prepared !!

Hi Bozzly,

I can't help with your mobile question though I know there are lots of ways of doing it. I'll let someone who know swhat they're talking about answer!

You can see park hours right here on the Dis. I'm sure it has firework times on there too.

Hi

When we took our mobile phones to the USA, we had to ask for International Roaming to be activated on the phones. Your sim card is fine.
That was it really, when we landed the phone automatically picked up the necessary.
We never used the phones to make voice calls as we have heard they are pretty expensive, but did use them to text message each other.

It might be worth while buying a mobile phone when you are out there, we have a tracfone. They are great!!
You can buy one from as little as $30...these are like Pay As You Go phones. More info can be found Here and Here and Here
We saw them at Walmart and Target. Also the great things about tracfones is that if you have a pre paid calling card you can use these to ring home from the tracfone.

Park Hours here is the WDW site if you click on the day it will give the times of fireworks etc...:)

Hope this helps

My DW & I are have contract phones with Orange. It was simply a case of calling them and informing them we'd be out of the country. We were sent some SIM update messages within the hour and I thought nothing else of it. After we landed I turned on my phone (Sony Ericsson K700i) and it automatically found a network, I receiced an update to the time, i.e. GMT minus 5 hours and that was it - the phone worked correctly for our time in the states. We found it very usefull to be able to contact each other just as we would back here but in the parks they were invaluable.

Not looking forward to the next bill though ... :scared1::scared1::scared1:

i am with vodafone and i have a sharp phone which when we went to orlando last year it automatically worked .. didnt have to ask vodafone for anything..

Not all phones will work in the States, they must be at least Tri-Band
:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Yep, "tri-band" is the issue and you'd be surprised how few phones of older than 2-3 years say are NOT tri-band.

I had to ask at least ten people at work before I found that would swap with me for a fortnight! LOL
