Ok Im really stupid when it comes to mobile phones so can anyone help me with this. My sister has a tri-band mobile which I want to take to discon, my mobile isn’t tri-band but would I be able to swap sim cards so that its my number but her phone and still use it over seas? Or would I have to contact orange (my service provider) and tell them what I am doing?

Im confused? Would this work?

Emma

Emma,
SIM cards will generally work in any handset, all you'd need to do is ask Orange to activate International roaming on your account.

BUT......

Some handsets are locked into a particular network meaning that only SIM cards from that network will work.

Handsets bought on a contract from Orange are always locked, O2/T-Mobile sometimes and Vodafone never seem to lock their contract handsets.

Best thing to do is just try it and see.

Thanks for your help Simon, my sis's mobile is an o2 one i think so i may be ok.
Thanks again,

Emma

Emma, before you use your mobile in the US check the prices that UK mobile phone operators charge for making and receiving calls there. I was intending to take my Orange phone with me until I saw the prices! I was shocked how much more it cost compared to France or Italy where I've used my phone.

Regards

Rob
