Mobile Ordering Questions

Hi there...we have never done mobile ordering and I just want to understand the process. I know you choose a time on the app, but it seems there are time windows available. Does that mean your food will be ready in that time frame? I read about people indicating they have arrived to the restaurant so does that mean once you arrive THEN they begin preparing your order? You wait and get a notification the food is ready?

From what I read you don’t typically walk up and order during Covid times, you use your mobile device to order nowadays.

My wife has some food sensitivity allergies so is there a way to customize your order? For example, she can’t have pizza sauce on her pizza or she can’t have certain gravies.

Does the Food and Wine Festival do mobile ordering or do you walk up for all of those?

Last question not related to topic but are there places inside the QS restaurants to sit and eat or is it limited because of Covid? Just wondering where we sit and eat. Thanks!

You have the process right. The food is not prepared until you hit the I'M HERE button.

For allergies, you can just tell the employee outside the restaurant that you need to order at a register because of allergies. You'll be able to go in and order like normal.

And yes, there are places inside to sit.

The earlier in the day you choose to mobile order on MDE, the more time windows will be available. I'm unsure when the time windows open up BUT I've heard it is at 4am every morning. So if you have a park pass reservation for Magic Kingdom, you can start choosing when you want to pick up your mobile order at 4am or while you're riding the Disney bus to MK. Choose your time window, then start choosing your items. I'm unable to speak on the allergies part though, hopefully someone else can help you with that. After choosing your items, I believe you pay for it by credit card or adding in gift card numbers, then when your time window comes up, you press "I'm Here" & they will start preparing your food, UNLESS you are ordering from Aloha Isle, they do not make your Dole Whip ahead of time. You stand in the "mobile pick up" line at Aloha Isle & when you get to the front, show them your order or give them your order info/number & they will prepare your Dole Whip.

QS locations that offer mobile ordering REALLY REALLY want everyone to mobile order instead of ordering from a register. If you cannot find a way customize your mobile order to accommodate your wife's allergies, I would use that as a reason to order from a register.

When we were there for Flower & Garden, none of the kiosks were using mobile order, so I guess it would be the same for Food & Wine? I would guess that items can be modified for allergies BUT expect to wait for it because they tend to prep the dishes with everything on it.

Certain QS locations have a CM at the entrance to roped off seating areas & will check to verify you have a mobile order pending before allowing you in, like Woody's Lunch Box. But when we were at Docking Bay 7 near closing, the CM was just letting anyone in whether you had a mobile order (my cousins had one) or not (I ordered from the register) but that could've been because we were there at the end of the night & the restaurant was empty. When we were going to Aloha Isle, we didn't order until we found a place to sit since we couldn't be walking & eating our Dole Whips. That whole area was PACKED with people sitting outside of Tiki Room, Aladdin's Magic Carpets etc. We were lucky to find a table in the shade across from the Swiss Family Treehouse. We don't do a lot of QS so I don't know about every QS location. If you have time, you can start using the MDE app to practice choosing a window & ordering, just don't go to the payment part & cancel out. You can also filter by park when you're looking at dining. Hope this helps.

Mobile ordering has made finding a seat after you have your food, much easier. Love it.
Agree, with above posts, that with allergies, let the CM know you have food allergies and they will let you order in person.
But, I love mobile ordering, it is so easy.

That's more of a Covid related change than just because of mobile ordering. Pre -Covid it was still a free for all when you mobile ordered.

True.
Pre-Covid, we still found mobile ordering easier than waiting in line to order and get your food. But, finding a table was a free for all.

About the allergies -

Most of the places you'll be mobile ordering from have individual allergy menus for several of the most common allergies (wheat/gluten, eggs, soy, milk, etc.). If your wife's allergy is just one of those categories, you'll be fine ordering from the allergy menu, but if it's a different one, or if she has multiple allergies, then you'll need to order at the register, and probably you'll be given the chance to talk to a chef about it. Tell the CM outside that you have multiple allergies or one that's not listed, and they'll let you in.

If you're ordering from a place without an allergy menu on the app, then you also need to order at the register.

Ok...thanks to everyone for your help. She has vestibular migraines and she has to avoid certain things: sauces, gravy, high sodium, limited cheese etc. One thought is pizza...she can't have tomato sauce so if mobile ordering doesn't allow to request without sauce, she will need to order at the window.

As for explaining how it all works, thanks for that too!
