My wife and I ate at Sanaa today and instead of using our DVC mobile pass for a discount we had our 50th Annual Pass Card and ID out for the waitress. She looked at the card and ID and asked to see our MDE on the phone?? I was able to pull up the AP under tickets but asked why she needed to see that. She replied that’s how they are being trained now since AP Cards will be going away soon and not be valid for discounts.
This is my first experience with mobile AP needed for discounts. Has anyone else experienced this or heard AP cards are going away?

Wow! I guess this was bound to happen since they are using the same method with DVV cards as well.

When I was there in January, I was told that for now the card (or pulling up on MDE) was still required, which is how I have been doing it for years when I had forgotten the DVC card in the room.

But, it sounds like they are slowly going to move to all digital for discounts. AP cards will be issued because they can be used for tickets, but maybe that will become the only thing they are good for in the future.

It would explain why the world Annual is in MDE as well as DVC Y or DVC ND.

Disneyland's current APs (aka "Magic Key," launched Aug 2021 after Disney terminated all APs that remained active through Covid) do not offer physical cards. Your ticket is in the Disneyland app -- for park entrance, for discounts, etc. It is a ROYAL pain when Disney's backend servers aren't working right ... which, last fall, was far to common. Ugh!!

That’s right. I read that somewhere on these boards. Makes sense to do it at World too I just didn’t connect the dots.

And people lose, or forget their phones, and batteries die.
Heck, some folks don’t even have a smart phone.
All the above ... with heavy emphasis on 'batteries die' (!!!). Adding to your list:
  • Outdated smartphone
  • Outdated OS on said smartphone
  • Outdated Disney App on said smartphone; too difficult to update on the fly at the park
  • Too much sun on the screen (screen can't be read either by human eyes or electronic scanners)
  • Limited cellular data plan (simply "not enough data" to run the app all day long)
  • Cellular network coverage gaps or WiFi issues
  • International travelers with insufficient local cellular data plan
  • Disney's IT (on the backend) simply fails ... BTDT, right?
  • ... etc, etc, etc.

I have said it before, not a fan of all the digital stuff.. I dont use google pay, or apple wallet, i guess i have to when we go to WDW. I see it as if that is on my phone, someone else is able to see it or steal it. Teams of people are always trying to hack into information out there, always been that way even before the digital age. I am just over cautious I guess. Smart phones are great devices to have, we use a lot a different apps, but digital wallet was not one i was interested in using at all. I still have a couple of friends that dont use a cell phone, and a friend who's 97 year old grandmother, uses door dash, lol. I love the MDE app used it for mobile ordering that came in very handy during the covid reopening.

In those cases GS should easily be able to help a guest verify park admission. Well, as long as the guest knows their login info to MDE

I don’t see them being quite as accommodating if it would pertain solely to shopping or dining discounts

curious to those who have been recently..
are they just looking at it when you hold your phone up showing the DVC/Annual Pass? Do they scan the QR code and check for ID? This seems like it could get annoying but understand their desire to stop fraud.

Visual verification. They are supposed to ask for ID, but not all CMs do.

hmmm. i usually dont carry my wallet into the parks and just use my phone. might have to change my plan.

Yes. APs were notified recently that they would at some point need to show the pass on their phone to get discounts. I don't recall them saying when.

when I did my DVC AP renewal onsite, I forgot my phone in the room. They would not accept the actual card for DVC. Had to go back to the room and get the phone.

I use the apple wallet all the time, I have some concert tickets and airline tickets in there. I do have one concert ticket that you must pull up the ticket on the venue's app to use it, screenshots not accepted, no wallet. The venue is in London and I don't have an international plan. It's supposed to have WiFi so here is hoping.

I have never understood why they don't just scan your MB--your park admission medium is right there or else you wouldn't be able to scan your band at the gate to get in.

Interestingly, on my MDE app, my sister's AP is listed before mine is!

I keep a screenshot of my license on my phone now...not only for Disney, but in case I ever lost it or things got stolen on vacation, I have my ID. This has worked with the digital card in all places that wanted to see ID!

I think because it is just too easy to share magic bands with others not entitled to the discounts. Now, could they find a way to make that work eventually? Maybe...but for now, it seems like this is a step in the direction of that.

I had to show my ID along with my digital pass on my two recent trips. Worked fine every time.
