I just found out that DS11 made ALL-Starts in football this year and we will be going to Mobile, Alabama over the long Thanksgiving weekend for games. I'm not too sure if I'm really happy about this or not?!! This is his first year and I don't really have any info yet.
So what's it like in Mobile at Thanksgiving time? I'm sure it will be cold to us since we're used to the FL weather, but how cold does it usually get then? Anybody from the area that can suggest some quick things to do or see while we're there? We will have our 2 girls (9 & 5) with us too.
TIA :D

We live 45 min away from Mobile, and all of DH's family lives over there, we spend a lot of time over there. Cold and wet? you can only guess, we have the air conditioner running full speed right now. it is hot and muggy here....some turkeydays are cold but they are few and far between. I have plenty of pictures of thanksgiving in mobile and shorts and tshirts.
Make sure you visit the USS Alabama, WW2 battleship, and museum, also has a sub there. You can't miss it, it is huge!
The storm didn't do the damage like it did in pcola over here. (or not that I have seen)
Have fun, lots of old stuff, old homes, Ft. Conde, really intresting if you get into stuff like that, (i'm a history junkie):D

At that time of year it will probably be in the low 50's or high 40's. Take a jacket if you aren't used to that kind of weather. We used to live in Biloxi, about 40 miles from Mobile. Didn't spend a lot of time there but the suggestions you've gotten are great. There's a wonderful flea market out by the airport too.

Rozzie: Great ideas, thanks. I love history too!

Yikes, 40's or 50's would be FREEZING to us!! I might have to go buy us all some long pants!

The others are right. Weather wise...be prepared for anything.
Just watch the weather channel before you go. If a cold front is approaching, the weather will be warm and muggy. If the cold front has passed, weather will be nice, but cooler. How cool is anybody's guess.

If you've got the time, be sure to visit the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola. http://naval.aviation.museum/home.html

Fort Gaines down on Dauphin Island is quite interesting also.

Dh probably won't be going. But after seeing some of the historical stuff (esp. military), I just might be able to convince my dad to come!!
Thanks guys!:D

The USS Alabama and Naval Air station are great ideas! If you are a member of AAA get a trip tik. Hopefully it would show the I-10 re-construction areas around Pensacola Bay and maybe some alternate routes. The interstate is open right now but I believe it is one lane each direction over the bay area. Any addt'l info on that for MissyC anybody?

You'll probably want to get off of I-10 at Highway 87 near Milton and take Hwy 90/Alt 90 through Pensacola. Just look at a good map, it's an easy route.

Traffic is down to one lane each direction across the Pensacola Bay I-10 Bridge. Traffic can back up several miles in each direction. The above detour will take you around all that.

The normal high for Mobile on Nov 25 is a high of 67 and a low of 46. Hope that info helps you pack :D
