Moana 2

When Mom and I were looking at the new Moana 2 dolls made by Mattel I noticed that there will be a new character named Loto and when we saw the Loto doll I think Disney got inspiration for Loto from singer Whitney Houston because Mom thinks Loto looks like Whitney Houston with the same hairstyle Whitney had in the 80's. Also what is Loto's role in Moana 2 gonna be? Is she a cousin of Moana's or her new friend and who will provide Loto's voice in Moana 2?

I'm super excited about this! Can't wait to see new characters, new places, and hopefully some good new songs too! Anyone know when the soundtrack will drop?

It was well animated and kids will enjoy it. Adults will depend on how much you jive with that direct to VHS sequel vibe.

Okay, finally got to see it - I really enjoyed it. I know some people have criticized the music, but I didn't think it was too bad for the most part (the smart chick's little rap not withstanding). I might say that some of it was out of place a little, (again, that same song), but still. The Rock and Auli'i crushed it all day regardless! I am glad to see it is stopming the box office.

Felt the same way… I DO think they were trying to emulate Lin with some of the rap… thought it was funnier than the first, and the animation is breathtaking, but I did miss a song on par with “How far I’ll go” or “You’re Welcome”

Beyond was probably the best one. It probably didn't help that the "smart chick" came off a tad annoying - she was like a real "Debbie Downer" for a lot of the movie, or that guy who likes to say, "Well, actually...." They should have left her at home! 🤣

Saw this yesterday. It was good though not as good as the first one. None of the songs are memorable and it felt rushed, but I still very much enjoyed it

Agree ! And what was with the accent ? Were they trying to make her seem smarter with that heavy accent ? Yea, Beyond the best in my opinion, as well. However, big no-no with the lyrics ... Might seem like nothing, but using the character name in the song makes it harder for it to be a "radio hit". Believe in one part of the song, she says .. " I am Moana"

Well, the reprise of How Far I'll Go had "I am Moana" in it. This was a callback.

It was enjoyable similar to Frozen 2 but wasn't an incredible sequel like Toy Story 2. The music was good but you could tell it was less inspired than the original which took years to complete. There will definitely be a Moana 3 and Iger was pretty smart to push this from Disney+ to a theatrical release. I feel that's probably the case for most of these going forward unless it's a title that they feel won't have as much mass appeal.

It was definitely missing a piece like this which might be in the top 5 of Disney moments of creativity and storytelling.

Based off of these box office numbers, the Disney direct to video sequel style of film making is back. I'm personally excited for Encanto 2: Electric Boogaloo.
D+ is a solid feeder system to pull from for which IP gets the next sequel. I don’t see the proposed Tiana series getting this treatment but Encanto would definitely be a candidate.

Maybe this time they’ll attach LMM before he’s on another project.

I was really excited for this, and it was cool to see Moana in a new adventure with even better animation. Obviously there's only one Lin-Manuel Miranda, but I liked the music in this one, too, especially "Beyond." It reminded me of "Into the Unknown," so maybe not covering a lot of new ground, although I do prefer the adventurous "princesses" to the ones whose stories focus on getting the prince.

Unfortunately I don't think the plot was that strong. The overall idea is there, but the details seem to get fudged with musical numbers and magical events that seem to come out of nowhere. It also felt choppy, like it needed better transitions between scenes to smooth the whole thing out and unify it.

I read somewhere that Moana's inner journey was pretty much complete in the first movie, so they had to focus more on exterior conflict in this one, which I think might be why it doesn't have the same emotional impact. Also, it's hard to relate to Moana becoming a demigod.

I will probably watch this again when it comes out on Disney+, if for no other reason than because some of the dialogue was difficult to catch in the theater. I do like the new characters and the idea of exploring and finding other inhabited islands. I'm interested in seeing Moana 3. But to me, Moana 2 is not on the same level as the original, or even a sequel like Frozen 2.

If they do more sequels, Disney has to do them the PROPER way. Such as:

- Have the animation be worse by around 50% minimum
- None of the original voice actors return
- Every character is slightly off model at all times
- Some of the worst music you've ever heard in an animated film
- Give the side character comic relief a girlfriend
- The children of the main characters learning the same lesson their parents did in the first movie

No notes. Do it Disney, we know you can. Bring back Eisner as a consultant on the projects.

I hope in Moana 3, Disney gives Hei Hei a girlfriend but she looks exactly the same as Hei Hei except for cartoonishly large eyelashes.
